“Stairs?”
Turning to the corner, they found a staircase leading up to the second floor.
Pointing the flashlight diagonally upward.
“Did it go upstairs? Interesting.”
Mahiru grins.
When we went upstairs and found ourselves in a large hall.
The sunlight streaming in through the large, light-filled windows gave the place an even more deserted impression. The air was filled with the smell of mold and seemed somehow cooler, even though it was in the midst of summer.
Several stone statues of angels were placed around the corner. Their lifeless and emotionless eyes seemed fixed upon the three of them.
“Nne— I’m starting to get scared….”
Asaka squeezed Mahiru’s hand tightly.
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle anything that comes our way.”
After passing through the hall, they entered a long, narrow corridor. On either side of it were a number of doors. The three got inside one of them.
There was another door at the back of the room they had entered, leading to yet another room inside. After passing through the door of the inner room, the three entered into something like a narrow corridor.
The second floor seems so complicated and intricate in construction that they might lose their way in no time, wandering about in this vast mansion.
They enter a dark room.
There were no windows in this room, and of course, there was no electricity, so they had to rely only on the light from their flashlights. There was a stale smell in the air, probably because the room had been closed for so long.
“Kyaa—” Asaka screams.
“What’s wrong?”
Miya rushes over to her.
“Some— Something— There’s something soft.”
When Miya pointed the light over that spot, they saw a candlestick and a pool of sludgy candle wax remains.
Perhaps the warm air in the room had softened the candle wax, and because it must have been neglected for a long time, the candle has degraded and become sludge. Regardless, Asaka went ahead and touched the candle sludge.
“White sludge, disgusting.”
“It’s a monster trap!”
“I want to wash my hands, though.”
“Let’s find the kitchen.”
Of course, since there was no water supply in the house, there was no point in looking for a kitchen. Still unaware of this, these little runts wander deeper and further into the mansion.
“Hey, did you hear anything strange?” Mahiru asks.
“Yes?”
Mahiru shakes the flashlight.
“Nne— it’s like someone is breathing.”
“There’s definitely something out there.”
When they reached the end of the corridor, they came across two stone statues of angels in front of them. Between the two stone statues was a bright red door that was padlocked and chained tightly. The three of them gulped at that closed-up room despite being inside the house.
“What is this place?”
“Something must have been sealed here… Moreover, it Stinks!”
As Miya puts her face in the gap of the door, a foul stench that she had never smelled before hits her nostrils.
Even these little brats realized something was wrong with the house.
“S-Say— let’s go home now.”
When Miya said that, both others nodded, agreeing.
And so when they turned on their heels.
“Eh,” says Miya.
“What’s wrong?” asks Mahiru.
“From which way do we return home?”

As they go through from door to door, they enter another room and open yet another. At one point, they exited into a hallway and hit a dead end. Just how many times have they repeated this till now?
“S–say— didn’t we just pass by this place earlier?”
“Ex-exits, we have to look out for the staircase.”
“I heard something again.”
The three of them wander around while on the verge of tears. They were lost in the place where they had visited for the first time. It was just a natural matter, of course.
There were no adults on whom they could tell about this situation. And yet, they couldn’t do it on their own. When they finally realized this, the three of them eventually came to understand the gravity of the situation they were in; and that they may never be able to return home again.
Such fear ran throughout their entire body from head to toe.
“Waa— wa–”
Mahiru stepped abruptly on something under her feet and fell down.
“It hurts. Just what is going on! Mou!”
“Are you okay?”
“Are you okay there?”
The floorboard over that region had rotted and peeled up a bit. She must have caught her foot on one of those areas and fell.
“Uu—”
Tears slowly welled up in her eyes.
“Mou, I just want to go back home … Uwaan!”
Those tears coming off from the usually headstrong Mahiru were enough for the others to begin crying as well.
“Uwaa—nn”
“Oo–kaa–saann–”
[TL note: Okasan means Mother.]
The three of them plopped down at their spot and started wailing.
“Waa—ann”
“Yuu-nii—-“
“Somebody help —!!”
As if to catch up with the three of them, mysterious footsteps approached from behind.
Kotsu
[TL Note: Kotsu means footsteps.]
Kotsu
Kotsu
“Hii!”
“Who— who’s there?”
Kotsu
Kotsu
Kotsu
“Hey, brats, what the heck are you doing over here?”
It was Arizuki who finally showed up.
“Yuu-nii!”
“Yuu-nii—”
“Yuu—san”
It was irrelevant why he was here.
They started crying tears of relief.
“Hey, don’t hug. It’s hot in here. Really now, let’s go back now.”

“Listen, don’t go into an unknown house without permission. I’m glad I found you guys, but what if it was some old pervert?”
“Hicku gusu”
“Ue– nne—”
“Yuu-nii, Yuu-nii.”
The three of them still haven’t stopped crying.
Still, I was chilled to the bone when these guys broke into that house. In that house known as the dumping ground for Ero-books, ‘ The so-called sanctuary.’
Ponds.
Park.
Thick vegetation.
Many adolescent troubled boys are indebted to these places as a dumping ground for disposing of their ero-collection. And moreover, it was also a place to collect and read discarded ero-books.
This abandoned house is one of those many. Arizuki found this place when he was in the sixth grade of elementary school. When he went in to test his bravery, he found a large pile of porno-books dumped in one corner of the yard.
There seems to be a man who regularly discards or hides ero-books in that vacant house, which is no longer occupied or managed by anyone. Arizuki would later regularly visit that place to read those divine books.
However, this was the first time he had even been inside that house. He thought about following these guys and scaring them to get back at them for their usual cheeky behavior towards him. But what stunned him was when they started crying.
They were cheeky but still small children. Arizuki felt apologetic for what he had done.
Let’s treat them to some dessert after returning home today.
Still, the house had a really dangerous atmosphere. What’s behind that closed door? Is there something insane locked up in there?
“Hey, just how long are you going to cry?”
“B-But?”
At that moment, I was tapped on the back.
“Ah— you there. Can I excuse you for a minute?”
When I turned around and saw several policemen standing along with a police car parked behind them.
Suddenly, Arizuki freezes.
“Eh–?”
“I got a call about a crying girl and a guy coming out of this abandoned house together. Can I have a word with you?”
Eh? Waa–
“You guys will be fine now.”
“N–no, it’s not like this.”
I got surrounded by strong police officers.
Wai– wait—.
“What happened in that house over there?”
A middle-aged cop asks the group of brats.
“White sludge,” Asaka says.
“It stinks,” Miya says.
“It was so painful,” Mahiru says.
“… Let’s talk more about it at the station later.”
“N-no, I mean. These are the children of people I know.”
“Yeah, I’ll hear you out on this later.”
People standing around looking at me with white eyes.
No, it’s not like this isn’t.
It’s a misunderstanding.
IT’S ALL A MISUNDERSTANDING!!!!!!!
*****
Eventually, the little brats stopped crying, and the misunderstanding cleared up, but it was a horrible experience.
