Bratty kids exploration party.

“Let’s make an exploration party.”
Miya said suddenly.
The present location was Miya’s room in the Haruyama household.
It is a small room given to me when I was studying in elementary school. The room is very feminine, with pink as its base color.
“What do you mean by exploring? What will we be doing, Miya-chan?”
Asaka asks this while drinking juice. It was the most reasonable question.
“Eh? We will search for treasure and slay monsters.”
“Eh? Monsters? But it’s scary.”
“Don’t worry, Asaka-chan. Leave the monster slaying.”
Saying this, Mahiru stood up fast enough for the hem of her skirt to flip. Usually dressed in a one-piece dress, she readily clenches her tiny fists tightly.
“I once defeated Yuu-nii with a single hit. I can easily take down a monster.”
“R–Really?!”
Miya leans forward, completely surprised.
“I trained for it. It was intense training.”
“So amazing!” said Asaka.
“I guess Yuu-nii is really a small fry after all. To get trounced by a girl.”
“Well, well, Miya. I agree that Yuu-nii is a loser, but it was also because I became too strong.”
“Mahiru-chan is so cool. I feel safe with her. So Miya-chan, where are we going to start exploring from?”
“Unn— let’s see from where we can start.”
Miya sits with her legs crossed on the bed, twirling her index fingers around her head.
“Haven’t you decided yet?”
“Ehehe”
“If so, I’ve got a great place, to begin with. In fact, I’ve had my eye on it for a while.”
Miya laughs wickedly.
“Where is it?”
“Look, if you take the road at the end of the shopping street to the mountains, you’ll see a big mansion, right?”
“Unn~ yes. I wonder what’s over there.”
“It’s like no one’s lived there for ages, and two set boys were screaming that it is a haunted house.”
“A haunted house. That sounds fun.”
Miya jumps off the bed excitedly.
“Okay! Let’s go out and explore it then.”
“Ooh~”
“Ooh~”

“Che, Even though we thought of including Yuu-nii as a subordinate of our exploration team.”
The group of the runts stopped by Moon night terrace. But unfortunately, Arizuki wasn’t there. They were told by Sayaka that he had left a few minutes ago to do something meaningful.
“Here we are.”
The three of them arrived at an old western-style house. The brick walls were peeling in places, and the fogged windows were covered with spider webs.
Crows descend on the deserted front yard, scattered with dead trees which look like corpses.
It was completely different when compared to the other surrounding private houses.
The three of them gasp as they look up at that long, rusted iron gate.
Although a small amount of fear welled up, the curiosity peculiar to children slightly outweighed it.
“Is there no place to get in from?”
Walking around the boundary along the back wall, they discovered a section of the back wall that had collapsed, leaving a big hole.
“Let’s get in from here,” Mahiru says.
They bend about and go through the hole.
It looks like a backyard.
A swampy pond.
The garden is covered with overgrown weeds.
A faded white bench.
And a stone statue of an angel whose upper half-body had collapsed.
What kind of place was this in the past, and what kind of people used to live here?
Romantics who romanticize abandoned buildings will naturally indulge in such sentimental thinking. Imagining the scenes of the householders’ former lives that could have been in the past.
—- But.
“Uwaa~ Amazing.”
“It really does look like a haunted house.”
“Ne, nee— it’s not like that; it’s really haunted.”
Obviously, these kids are not sensible enough to know such things.
“Miya, over there.”
Mahiru pointed at a broken window.
Did someone break it, or did it break on its own?
That was not important.
Let’s go in from there.
Just knowing that had made the excitement levels of those three maxes up.

“Good thing that I brought my flashlight along.”
Miya says while waving that flashlight in her right hand.
The way that ray of light moved around in the dark was like some B0 saber.
“Don’t let go of my hand, Mahiru-chan.”
“Ouu”
Asaka and Mahiru hold each other’s hands tightly.
Presently, the three of them walk down a long corridor.
Paintings are hung on the walls, and the carpet underfoot is badly stained with dust and moisture.
“It’s amazing. It’s like we are in a horror game.”
“What’s in this room?”
Miya opens the door to her right.
Upon entering, it looked like a library. Thick books are crammed into stacks on the bookshelves that stretch to the ceiling.
“There are only books here. It’s boring.”
As they went back to the mansion corridor, at that time, this happened.
“Arre?—” Asaka exclaims.
“What’s wrong?” Mahiru asks.
“I think something… moved around the corner over there.”
“Over there?”
Miya turned her flashlight toward the end of the hallway, but there was only an empty corner at the end of it.
“Do–Don’t you think you’re mistaken.”
“If there’s a monster, I’ll beat it down.”
“Are you okay, Mahiru-chan?”
“I—is somebody there?”
Mahiru raises her voice but what comes back is only dead silence.
“Unn— Maybe I did see something by mistake… after all?”
“We’ll find out about that as we keep going on. Let’s go.”
With Miya on the lead, they started walking again slowly. Perhaps because of the silence, they could hear the creaking sound coming from under their feet with each step they took and became frightened by it.
Five meters to the corner.
Four meters.
Three meters.
Two meters.
One meter.
