Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 65 Audience with the Lord
We arrived at the Lord’s mansion, located at the far end through the noble district along the south-side river.
We were nervous, but it also felt somewhat unreal.
We reached the front rotary of the Lord’s mansion, along the carriage drive.
The carriage door was opened from the outside, and the doorman bowed.
“Shall we proceed?”
We were led by a refreshing handsome man and stepped out of the carriage.
It was a stark contrast to the rickety carriage we had been in just moments ago, and it immediately heightened our tension.
Unlike a covered wagon, the noble carriage had side doors.
One by one, we descended the steps and stood on the ground.
I almost lost my footing for a moment, but I managed to keep my balance.
The medieval-style carriage had a higher clearance than modern cars.
We passed through the main entrance hall.
The chandeliers, magical artifacts, radiated a dazzling and brilliant light.
Though it was still early evening and the sun had not fully set, they were already illuminated.
We were led further back to a slightly lesser room called the Second Audience Room, where lower-ranked audiences took place.
“Welcome, everyone. I hear you treated the people of Eldania to a remarkable tomato soup. Truly exquisite.”
“Yes.”
I couldn’t help but feel hesitant about agreeing with ourselves with a simple “yes.”
Next to me, Gid-san, being a former noble, had an expression of composure. It was a bit frustrating.
“It seems you provided the soup free of charge to the soldiers and residents, boosting their morale. Their sources of entertainment are limited, and I hear they were deeply grateful.”
“Oh, really?”
“Therefore, on behalf of our Lord, Thomas Zeckenbauer, I would like to offer a reward of twenty gold coins.”
“Ah, thank you very much.”
“By the way, as the representative, that child over there is answering. Is he the one who made the tomato soup?”
“Yes. He was the one who made it.”
“I see.”
Gid-san smoothly directed the focus towards me.
Please stop.
“I shall grant you the gold coins as promised. By the way, would you be willing to let my family taste the tomato soup as well?”
“Well…”
“Is it not possible? Oh, come on! We are tired of the same repetitive poultry dishes.”
“Yes.”
“I have tried tomato soup before, but I never found it particularly impressive.”
The Lord passionately expressed his obsession with food.
“Therefore, I would like you to make it for us.”
“Understood.”
“As for Beast-san, he has returned during the mission, so his duties are exempted based on this report.”
“Yes.”
Beast-san bowed and performed the knight’s salute.
We borrowed the kitchen.
As expected of the Lord’s mansion, there were splendid and elaborate magical stoves with multiple burners.
Using the magical stoves, we started adding tomatoes and various vegetables.
The ingredients were the same as before.
However, there was one difference.
Since we had already used up the tomatoes, we had to use the stock from the commercial kitchen.
The taste didn’t vary much, but I felt a slightly diminished umami flavor. It is said that tomatoes grown in regions with low moisture and a salty environment are ideal, but perhaps in this world, tomatoes are grown luxuriously with ample fertilizer and water, resulting in a weaker concentration of flavor. On the other hand, naturally grown produce, untouched by such controlled conditions, may endure the environment and become delicious tomatoes.
Reproducing the exact same flavor might be difficult.
However, once we had started, there was no turning back.
We added a small amount of mushrooms, Eldertake Mushrooms, as well.
The synergy between tomatoes and Eldertake Mushrooms greatly enhanced the umami flavor.
I can’t quite explain it, but it seems to be a chemical reaction that humans perceive in such a way—it’s quite fascinating.
Carrying the tomato soup from the kitchen, I made my way to the Lord’s dining hall, where two adorable princesses were present.
“I am Marieelle, ten years old.”
“I am Eleanor, about to turn six.”
Mariel had dark, curly straight hair and an older sister vibe.
Eleanor had pink hair styled in twin tails, which added to her charm.
Both of them performed a curtsy towards me in unison. They were so cute.
Marieelle wore a light blue dress, while Eleanor wore a white one with a distinctive small yellow ribbon.
The dresses had frilly decorations, making them even more adorable.
The Lady of the house was also standing by their side.
“I am Cathy, the Countess. I heard my husband made an unreasonable request. I apologize.”
“No need to apologize.”
“But the children were looking forward to it, and I couldn’t refuse. Please forgive me.”
“It’s alright. Here you go.”
I felt embarrassed and shrunk back.
I had checked the taste.
It didn’t turn out exactly the same, but it was delicious enough.
As an added touch, I sprinkled a bit of black pepper to tailor it to my own preference.
I believe this would make the flavor more well-rounded and delicious.
“Please, go ahead.”
“Well then, if you’ll excuse us. We offer our gratitude to Raffalier-sama every day.”
“Thank you for watching over us every day. Mereshiiru La Buraeru.”
With formal greetings, the Lord’s family began to enjoy the meal.
“It’s delicious.”
“What is this? It’s incredibly tasty.”
“This tomato soup is beyond amazing.”
“Mmm, this is delicious. Excellent job.”
Everyone shared their impressions.
Afterward, they quietly moved their spoons.
Is it really that delicious?
Certainly, it was undeniably tasty.
If I were to serve them hamburgers, they would probably eat endlessly.
“You made this! Oh, right, Ed! Ed-kun.”
“Well, yes.”
“It’s decided. Ed-kun will be my husband. Please cook delicious meals for me every day.”
“Hey, Eleanor!”
“Why not, Mother? Delicious food is important, you know.”
“Yes, but think about the other person’s feelings when you say something like ‘husband’.”
“But…”
“Look over there.”
“Huh…”
That’s right. I hadn’t realized it, but everyone, including the servants, had gathered in a corner of the room, watching us.
“You have your whole family here.”
“It’s all girls! Are they all your brides, Ed-kun?”
“Well, um, they are all my girls. Yes.”
“Eek!”
It took a little while to calm down Eleanor-sama quietly.
And I’m sure Minya and the others were worried about being overshadowed by the lord’s daughters. I’m sorry.
