Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 64 “Idle Talk / The Lord of Trieste’s Banquet 2”
Today, as usual, it was time for Count Zeckenbauer, the Lord of Trieste, to have his dinner.
The city of Trieste, located in the Merlia Kingdom, within the Count Zeckenbauer’s territory, served as the capital.
First, a salad was served, followed by bread.
The bread was accompanied by the recently acquired Noichigo jam.
“This Noichigo jam was obtained after searching tirelessly, as the quantity available was extremely limited. We managed to confiscate it from a staff member at the Adventurers’ Guild. Of course, we provided a monetary reward in the form of gold coins as an incentive for their cooperation,” the butler explained with a somewhat exasperated voice.
Searching for the jam was no easy task, but the orders given by the lord were a bit stingy.
“What about the next shipment?” the lord inquired.
“I have been informed them that the third shipment is scheduled to arrive soon, according to the shop owner,” the butler responded.
“However, I can’t wait until then.”
“Very well, sir.”
In any case, it seemed that the shopkeeper at the guild’s stall reluctantly parted with the jam, receiving five gold coins in return. Determined to buy more on the next occasion, the lord continued with his duties for the day.
The lord’s family spread the jam onto the bread.
The red jam adorned the bread, looking incredibly appetizing.
In this world, it must be considered a luxurious item.
Perhaps rarity is more of an issue than its price.
They took a bite.
“So delicious.”
“It’s so tasty.”
Another bite.
“The jam is delicious. Although this might be the last of it.”
“Yes, we were told there will be another shipment. Let’s remain hopeful.”
“Hehe.”
“It’s yummy.”
The sisters enjoyed the bread and jam with delight.
“We still have bread, but no more jam.”
“That’s what I thought. In fact, I heard some information that grape and apple jams were also available for sale. We searched everywhere.”
“Oh, really?”
“We found only one bottle of grape jam. We did it!”
“Well done! You searched diligently.”
And so, they started spreading the grape jam one by one.
However, there was only one bottle, so they spread it thinly but evenly.
“We will partake in this. Mmm, this is delicious too.”
“It’s delicious. I never knew grapes could be this sweet.”
The purple jam may not look as appetizing as the red jam, but this rare gem made from perfectly ripened grapes had an exquisite flavor that delighted the senses.
Ed and the others were also impressed, guaranteeing the taste.
And so, the lord’s family managed to acquire the grape jam as well.
Next, it transformed into soup.
“Presenting today’s soup. We used rare mushrooms brought in by adventurers from the guild.”
“Oh, mushrooms, huh? What’s their name?”
“They are called Murasaki mushroom. They have a purple color and are said to be incredibly delicious. They come with an appraisal certificate from Baron Chimaeras Hopphelm, an elf with appraisal skills, one of the few advanced appraisers in this region.”
“Ah, Chimaeras. That’s a familiar name. A skilled appraiser. It must be incredibly delicious, then.”
The soup was served.
“Father, I want to eat it quickly.”
“I also sense a wonderful aroma from this soup.”
Marieelle and Eleanor sniff the air delicately, like they’re savoring the fragrance of tea. They approach the enticing scent with their noses, but in an elegant manner, without any vulgarity.
The color of the soup is a caramel hue, indicating the use of vegetables, salt, and pepper.
Carefully scooping it with a spoon, they take a sip.
“It’s delicious.”
“I’ve never tasted such umami before.”
“Oh my, this is truly delicious.”
“I see, I see. Our domain is skilled in cooking as well.”
Everyone eagerly scoops up spoonfuls.
The umami of the mushrooms blends and enhances the umami of the vegetables, creating a rich, harmonious flavor that is simply exquisite.
“I used to think mushrooms were strange, but it turns out there are delicious mushrooms like this.”
“Sister, I would also like to try mushroom hunting.”
“Well, Eleanor, you’re quite the tomboy, aren’t you?”
The Murasaki Mushroom soup was quickly devoured by everyone.
“Next up is another mushroom dish, Mushroom Stew.”
“Oh.”
The next dish presented was a simmered dish of mushrooms, leeks, and boar meat.
“These are called Crimson mushrooms. They also come with Baron Chimaeras Hopphelm ‘s appraisal certificate.”
“I see.”
The color is appropriately Crimson, a shade between red and white, a deeper shade of pink but somewhat whitish.
It looks appetizing, but if someone were to say it’s a poisonous mushroom, you might believe it.
The same goes for the purple mushrooms.
The mushrooms, leeks, and boar meat retained their shapes, covered in a translucent broth.
Using a knife, they cut the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces and brought them to their mouths.
“Mmm, delicious.”
“It’s delicious, sister.”
Eleanor couldn’t help but bring her hand to her cheek, still holding the knife.
“Oh, Eleanor, you…”
“Oh, my apologies.”
Once again, they took a bite with the knife and fork.
“Mmm, it’s delicious.”
“It’s delicious.”
“Yes, the umami is incredible. It’s a different kind of flavor from the mushrooms earlier, but that’s what makes it special. Who would have thought such a delicious thing still existed. Life is full of surprises.”
“Well, that’s just like you. Hehe.”
The mushrooms were incredibly delicious.
And the previous boar meat cooked together with them was tender and exquisite, practically melting in their mouths.
In this way, the mushroom dishes found their way into the Lord’s stomach.
Unfortunately, the information that the jams, mushrooms, and even the boar meat were all provided by Ed and his companions did not reach the Lord and his family.
It’s only natural not to think that everything is Ed’s fault or credit.
The Lord’s family only harbored the desire to purchase the delicious jams at the Dridon General Store.
The rest relied mostly on the Adventurer’s Guild.
When rare and delicious items are obtained, it’s only natural for the news to reach the Lord.
If the Lord doesn’t show any interest, the information might spread to the common folk.
Alternatively, if no one has made a prior request or nomination, it may even reach other nobles in general.
While the Lord doesn’t always have priority, it is a fact that there are only a limited number of households capable of readily offering gold coins.
There may be another occasion for a delicious dinner with the Lord’s family in the future.
