Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 66 Moving
After concluding the audience, we were once again driven back home in the carriage.
Due to the road conditions, the carriage couldn’t enter Lanierda and came to a stop by the side of the main road.
“Well then, Beast-san, goodbye.”
“Yes, goodbye. If we have the chance to meet again, please take care.”
We bid farewell to Beast, who had been our escort, and returned to our humble house in the slums.
Fortunately, we had already enjoyed our own tomato soup at the Lord’s mansion, so we were content.
We decided to take the rest of the day off.
The next day arrived.
Upon returning the carriage, we received back ten gold coins as a refund.
Furthermore, we received twenty gold coins as a reward, bringing our total to approximately thirty gold coins.
It was time to move.
I’ve been contemplating this for a while now.
While I have some attachment to Lanierda, I don’t have an overwhelming desire to continue living here.
I plan to continue relying on the Dridon General Store for various things, but as for a house, it’s time for a change.
There isn’t a specific occupation known as a real estate agent, and I’m not sure about the details, but it falls under the jurisdiction of the Adventurer’s Guild.
I would have thought it would be under the Commercial Guild, but it seems that the Adventurer’s Guild is the standard in this world.
Once again, Gid-san is dressed in his discreet disguise attire.
Well, it’s more like a disguise, or perhaps this is the proper attire here.
By wearing the hood, his pointed ears can be concealed, so this outfit must work well for him.
He usually wears more practical brown clothing that looks like work attire.
The brown clothes are rather plain and could be considered the standard attire in the slums, not fashionable clothes for spring, autumn, or winter.
I lined up at the guild reception, at the quest counter, and stated my purpose.
“I used to live in the slums, but I’d like to rent a house within the city of Trieste.”
“Oh, so you and the Minya clan are moving into the castle. Congratulations!”
“Well, my budget is around twenty gold coins. I’m looking for a place where I can live as long as possible with that amount.”
“I see. I will personally guide you.”
As I said that, an elf receptionist emerged from behind the counter.
There was a sign on the counter that read, “Away from the desk. Please use another counter.”
I’ve seen this sign before and someone explained its meaning to me.
“By the way, miss, what’s your name?”
“I am Mikurashia Aufheben Trustia. Nice to meet you.”
Damn it. Elves’ names are always so long.
I wonder if it’s the same for half-elves.
I remembered that it’s considered rude to appraise someone without permission, so I abandoned the idea of appraising her.
For some reason, Mikurashia glanced at me for a moment and winked.
She might have sensed that I was about to appraise her.
Luckily, I didn’t go through with it, so it’s safe.
I went to look at the documents and she picked out a few for me.
Then we proceeded with the house viewing.
In the end, we decided on a location just behind the slums, a little north of the eastern gate.
It’s away from the main street and usually quiet.
Right behind the house, there’s a small but expansive field where local farmers work.
In the narrow city of Trieste, not all areas are residential. There are minimum agricultural lands available. This is done with the consideration of potential sieges, but of course, it’s too small to feed the entire population. It’s better than nothing, but just barely.
“Here’s our new home!”
“Wow, can I live here too, meow?”
“Of course, Ciel.”
“Yay, meow!”
Now, let’s talk about the structure of the house. There’s a kitchen and dining area side by side, and a separate living room. There’s a master bedroom for the couple and a children’s room. Additionally, there’s a nearby well and a dedicated slime toilet.
I thought I would finally have my own room, but Minya stuck to me and wouldn’t leave, so we ended up sharing a room. There were larger houses available, but the rent was high, and Minya insisted on having a shared children’s room instead of separate ones.
Therefore, we settled for a reasonably priced house with one children’s room in consideration of all factors.
Fortunately, the previous tenants left behind some large furniture, so we already had enough tables and chairs for everyone. Although there are no beds, we can use blankets on the floor for the time being.
The house in the slums will be converted into the “Melun Clinic.” It would be best to keep it rather than selling it, especially if my mother, Tomaria, returns.
Also, it was decided that Eggbird would live at the clinic. It seemed more comfortable for Eggbird to stay there rather than living together with us.
The monthly rent is one gold coin. With twenty coins, we can live here for twenty months. In this world, there’s no system of security deposits or key money. Instead, the rent is slightly higher.
Furthermore, the availability of rental houses depends on the adventurer guild’s credibility. Even those who haven’t directly relied on the adventurer guild can go through a credit check or inquire with the commercial guild to secure a rental.
“Here are the belongings.”
“Thanks, Ed!”
My family is aware of the item box. We quickly stored our belongings and completed the move. Since there are no large pieces of furniture in the slum house, it made the process easier.
“Well then, goodbye to the slum house…”
I bid farewell to the house. It’s not that I follow a specific religion, but apart from the Melun Clinic, everything else has been taken away. There are only futons for guests, and the storage items like baskets are absent. It felt quite empty and lonely.
Eggbird, who always seems to be lost in their own thoughts, happily explores the larger room, walking around the house with excitement.
“Coke, kokokoko.”
“You’re energetic as always. Please lay more eggs for me.”
“Coco.”
And so, we bid farewell to the old house.
When I mentioned moving, Lania initially threw a tantrum, but in the end, she agreed.
“Lania, I’ll still visit you just like before.”
“Oh, Ed, are you going to leave me behind and go with another girl?”
“Don’t say it like that.”
“Hahaha, just kidding. Please keep playing with me. By the way, we’re also planning to move soon.”
“Oh, really? That’s great!”
“Yes!”
Lania is moving too. Her house was even more run-down than ours. It was strange that despite clearly making money, her house was so unbalanced.
