Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 30 Quest Completion Report
Continuing on Tuesday, around noon.
After enjoying a delicious lunch, it’s time to return to the guild and make the completion report.
“My stomach is full…”
“I think this is the most I’ve ever eaten.”
Both of them are rubbing their bellies.
The little girls with chubby tummies are adorable.
By the way, I noticed that Rudolf-san was at home during the weekday afternoon. I wonder if he’s not working. It would be great if he could help with job referrals or something. But I still don’t have that kind of influence yet. I’m still in the early stages of improving my own meals, so there’s a long way to go.
The three of us leave the house and pass through the city gate.
Trieste city is bustling today as well.
It’s better than being engulfed in the gloom of a country facing a recession and an uncertain future.
Currently, Trieste ‘s economy is on the rise and relatively stable.
We arrive at the Adventurer’s Guild.
“Hello.”
“Excuse us for intruding.”
“Nice to meet you.”
The familiar sound of the cowbell rings out, as usual.
For a moment, we attract attention.
With our equipment, we somewhat resemble adventurers.
It’s strange to see kids running errands with weapons and gear.
However, everyone quickly returns to their business.
The reception area is empty since it’s lunchtime.
An elven receptionist should be fine. We’re not close, but the last time we came, it was an elf too.
“Hello.”
“Yes, Miss Elf. It seems we made it back safely from Watchtower Mountain.”
“Yes. This is a response letter.”
“Indeed, we have received it. The quest is completed. Please present your guild cards.”
I submit my guild card.
“Now, let’s settle the reward: five silver coins, alright?”
“Yes.”
Five silver coins, huh? It’s not as awe-inspiring if you’ve received gold coins before, but compared to earning one silver coin per day for simple labor, it’s a decent amount for our first request.
“We did it!”
“We’ve got money.”
“Then, how about two silver coins for Lania, and the remaining three for us?”
“Are you sure?”
“Well, Lania was the one who took down the rabbit after all.”
“Thank you very much.”
Lania quietly and graciously accepts the two silver coins. She didn’t cry this time, as expected.
“Is there anything else you need or should we check for something?”
“Right.”
“Yeah.”
We head to the shop on the left.
Come to think of it, we should have checked for necessary items before taking on the quest.
But nothing comes to mind.
“Excuse me, miss.”
“Yes, what can I help you with, sir?”
She treats me as a customer, that’s good.
“I was wondering if there are any essential tools or items for beginner adventurers?”
“Well, let’s see. It would be good to have emergency potions. Many beginners can’t afford to buy them due to lack of money.”
“I have those, so no worries.”
“Another item could be a fire-starting kit, just in case you need to camp.”
“Hmm, in that case, Lania can start a fire.”
“I see. Then how about a seasoning set?”
“Yes, a small amount of salt from home would be good.”
“Alright. And how about a water flask? Water may seem readily available, but it can be scarce at times.”
“I’d like one of those.”
With that, we’ll need three water flasks, one for each of us.
Sharing one flask would be an option, but it would be difficult to keep track of who drank more. Besides, having one flask might not be enough in terms of quantity.
We have an item box, so it would be wise to store water in separate flasks.
“It will be three silver coins.”
“Y-yes.”
I need to manage my remaining funds, anticipated income, and future expenses in my head.
I really want some armor.
Lania is fine with her blue and white dress, but having a chest plate might bring a sense of security. And no, a chest plate is not a bra. She’s only six years old, so she’s flat-chested. It’s a protective piece of armor for vital areas. Getting hit hard on the chest by a goblin’s club would cause significant damage.
There are still many things I want. Insufficient funds.
As a high school student, I’m familiar with the hack-and-slash approach. Fight enemies suitable for my level, earn money through items, and buy stronger equipment. It’s a cycle where equipment, levels, and enemies gradually become stronger.
I’m still at the beginning. Let’s not rush and take it easy.
What was it again? Right, “haste makes waste.”
There’s also “patience is a virtue” and “there’s no need to rush.”
“By the way, you guys are from the slums, right? I heard that tea and jam are trending over there. Are you aware of it?”
“Yeah, that’s right. We have spearmint herbal tea and dog barley tea. The jams we have are made from green apples and mountain grapes. I’m not sure if there are any left, but they’re limited in quantity.”
“Oh, I see. Maybe I’ll go buy some after work today.”
“If they’re already sold out, I apologize in advance.”
“N-No, it’s not your fault.”
It’s our fault if there’s no stock. It’s our supplier’s issue.
I wonder if there are other apple and grape trees around. I should try searching for them, but I hesitate at the thought of encountering many goblins.
“Well then, we’ll come back another time.”
“Good luck!”
I appreciate the encouragement from the shopkeeper. I quite like her.
I head back to the available elf receptionist and ask her to handle the purchases I had forgotten.
“Um, two one-horned rabbit pelts and two magic stones, please.”
“Yes.”
“Please wait a moment for the appraisal, Elf-sama.”
I’m not fond of waiting for the appraisal. It makes me feel restless, as if I’m being evaluated and judged during that time.
“Thank you for waiting. That will be one silver coin for the rabbit pelt and two silver coins for the magic stones. The total comes to six silver coins.”
“Understood.”
Lania receives the items on my behalf. It’s definitely easier and more enjoyable when Lania handles the transactions.
