- I Confessed to Her Twice, but It Seems I Lost the Chance for a Third Time
- Chapter 46 - Aki and the Four Seasons
After that, we were engaging in trivial small talk. It felt like Yamato-san wanted to ask me something, although I didn’t particularly need to ask anything. Why? Because Yamato-san initiated conversations about themselves, like, ‘This is how I am,’ ‘I like this,’ unprompted.
Well, we ended up spending time together until Aki could come home. Anyway, since I would’ve been idle waiting alone, there wasn’t really a problem with that. However, I couldn’t help but feel curious about why Yamato-san, who seemed tired of men, would bother telling me about themselves.
“Perhaps Aki will be coming soon?”
It was around 7 p.m., the time when the sky was getting dark and the voices of students doing club activities in the schoolyard were dwindling, that Yamato-san spoke to me like that. I thought, ‘Oh, so it ends around this time,’ and replied,
“Oh, I see. Thanks for letting me know.”
I expressed my gratitude to Yamato-san, who smiled at me and said,
“You’re welcome.”
As we exchanged those words, Aki, who had finished club activities, came running over.
“Shiki… Oh? Why is Natsuki-kun here? Shiki… Did something happen?”
Upon seeing that, I inexplicably felt happy that it was Aki. I felt my heart calm down. I wonder why, really.
However, contrary to my feelings, Aki’s first words were directed somewhat grumpily towards Yamato-san. So I tried to placate Aki.
“Aki, welcome back. No, no, Yamato-san hasn’t done anything. It’s just that I wanted to see Aki, you know? So I waited here, and I met Yamato-san in the meantime. We were just waiting together. Aki and Yamato-san always go home together, right? We arranged to meet here. Well, I just happened to show up there.”
I explained to Aki like that, and Yamato-san added somewhat provocatively to Aki,
“Aki, I haven’t done anything. Just as Kondo-kun said. Well, I did get to talk while we were together, though.”
Upon hearing that, Aki…
“Haa… I really didn’t want to meet him, you know? If we were going to meet, I thought it would be while I was there, so why are you meeting without me… Well, Natsuki-kun probably knows his face at least.”
Aki said to us with a slightly puzzled expression. So I replied,
“Um, I don’t know how much Aki dislikes it, but it’s okay. I’m just me. Have I changed in any way since we’ve been talking? I don’t think so.”
I conveyed that it was okay, reassuring Aki. After watching this, Yamato-san changed to an expression I didn’t quite understand and muttered to themselves.
“It’s really nice how he doesn’t react to me at all. Aki has found a good person…”
And that’s how it went.
“But why did you come here when you were supposed to go home? You wanted to see me… Well, I’m glad, but didn’t you wait quite a while?”
Aki asked, expressing concern about the time I had waited. So I replied,
“Aki probably knows, but I was talking with Imai-san… Oh, it ended safely, but after it was over, I tried to go home. But for some reason, I really wanted to see Aki… You know. Even though there was no promise or anything, I thought it might be annoying to come without one, but I couldn’t help it. Um, Aki, was it bad?”
I confirmed with Aki about not making any promises. Whether I caused any inconvenience. In response, Aki seemed happy to hear those words and said,
“No, it’s not that I’m not happy when you want to see me. Any reason is fine. Having feelings of wanting to see me… that’s a reward for me today.”
Aki smiled and said that, then hugged my arm as usual. I used to try to avoid it, but now it’s become a comforting gesture for me. Watching us like that, Yamato-san said,
“Hmm. Aki’s atmosphere… Am I bothering you? Should I go home first?”
Yamato-san seemed a little troubled, probably not expecting Aki’s attitude to be like this. In response to those words, Aki said,
“What are you talking about now? You’ve already met and talked with Natsuki-kun without any problem. Let’s all go home together without worrying, okay? Right, Natsuki-kun, it’s fine, isn’t it?”
After conveying that to Yamato-san, Aki asked me. I didn’t see any issue with it, and I might have been the one causing trouble.
“I’ve already met Aki, so it’s enough. Wouldn’t I be the one bothering if I stayed?”
I answered, and both Aki and Yamato-san said in unison,
“That’s not true.”
They said it in harmony, for some reason.
The two of them exchanged glances with a feeling of “we did it” and smiled.
