Chapter 53: Even if Ryouya Disappears From in Front of Us, We’ll Chase You to the Ends of the Earth

“It’s already almost two o’clock, so how about if we have lunch now? Ryouya-kun, Riona, is there anything you want to eat?”

“I’ll leave it up to Ryouya and Onee-chan.”

“Hmm, I don’t have anything I want to eat in particular either… Ah, but please, no more couple-only menu items. I’ve had enough of those.”

“Ehh?? And I was just about to order one again today too!”

Apparently, just like at Tokyo Inclusion Square, she had planned to order the couple-only menu again. It had almost turned into a repeat of that time, so it was seriously a close call for me.  After the three of us talked it over, we decided on a fast food chain called Wakdonald’s for lunch, and headed to the food court.

Wakdonald’s was always in large shopping malls, so it was really convenient. When we arrived, the place was fairly crowded, probably due to summer vacation. After picking up our orders, we found an open table and sat down.

“Hey, those two girls are insanely cute, right?”

“Totally. They’re tall, have great figures… They’re perfect.”

“If a girl like that became my girlfriend, man…”

As usual, the two of them were drawing all the attention from the guys around us, and I could hear those kinds of comments here and there.

“Who’s the guy with them? There’s no way he’s their boyfriend. He’s totally out of their league.”

“Probably just their bag carrier or walking wallet.”

“They’ll toss him the moment he’s no longer useful.”

The envious and jealous stares and muttered remarks directed at me were business as usual. No matter where we went or what we did, it was always like this, so after spending so much time with them every day, I had completely stopped caring about people’s opinion.

Human adaptability really is terrifying.

As I was thinking that, Reona suddenly grabbed my wrist. She pulled me close, and took a big bite out of the teriyaki burger I was eating.

“Hey! What the hell was that?”

“Ryouya-kun’s teriyaki burger just looked so good I couldn’t help myself. Here, I’ll give you a bite of my bacon-lettuce burger in exchange.”

Saying that, Reona held out her half-eaten bacon-lettuce burger right in front of me. Without really thinking, I took a bite.

“Wow, and to think you used to freak out about indirect kisses. Looks like you’re totally fine with it now.”

“Well, it’s a little late to worry about that.”

“Then I’ll have some too.”

This time, Riona took a bite of my teriyaki burger just like Reona had done, and offered me her cheeseburger in return, which I took a bite from. Lately, so much had happened that my sense of boundaries was probably pretty numbed compared to before. And needless to say, the envious stares from the surrounding guys only intensified.

After a while, we finished our meal and left Wakdonald’s, then headed to the planetarium.

The reason I had casually chosen this place was just because it was far away, but as it turned out, the shopping mall we were at had one of the rare few planetariums in the country. So we figured we might as well go check the planetariums out. 

Once inside, we took our seats and gazed up at the stars projected on the ceiling and walls.

“That’s Deneb in the Cygnus constellation, and over there is Altair in Aquila. That one’s Vega in Lyra. When you connect the three, it forms the famous Summer Triangle.”

“Wow~ Riona, you’re really knowledgeable. I never really had much interest in space, so I only knew the names, to be honest.”

“Yeah, I’m the same as Ryouya-kun. I only knew the names too.”

Riona helpfully added explanations to the narration, making it easy for me and Reona to understand. She really was knowledgeable about everything.

“I’ve always liked looking at the stars at night, so I often stargazed with Mama.”

“Huh? Reona wasn’t with you?”

“Onee-chan never wanted to join us—said she was sleepy or didn’t care, so she hardly ever came.”

“Hey, Riona! Don’t just casually spill that kind of stuff to Ryouya-kun!”

“But it’s true.”

I always had the image that Reona and Riona did everything together, but I guess that wasn’t the case. I could understand Reona’s reasons though.  I definitely couldn’t imagine Reona quietly stargazing, so it didn’t feel out of character of her to refuse stargazing with Riona. 

Time passed quickly, and before we knew it, the 90-minute planetarium show had ended.

We’d been out since morning, and were starting to feel tired, so we decided to head home now.

The two of them seemed satisfied, so when I suggested going back, they didn’t object to it.

“…Come to think of it, I never got the chance to ask this morning. How did you two even know I was here?”

“That’s a maiden’s secret, so we can’t tell you. But no matter where Ryouya-kun goes, we’ll always know.”

“Even if Ryouya disappears from in front of us, we’ll chase you to the ends of the earth.”

They said it with perfectly straight faces, but I wondered if they realized how much they sounded like stalkers. No, more likely, they did know and said it anyway.

I used to think that someday their obsession with me would fade and they’d move on, but now… I was starting to wonder if that day would ever actually come. If anything, I was beginning to think that their obsession might just burn hotter for the rest of our lives.
