ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After the play ended, the third and final day of the school festival began. The first and second days, true to the name “Cultural Division,” had focused heavily on cultural festival elements, but today—the third day—was labeled the “Sports Division,” and the content was completely geared toward a sports festival.
And in the evening, once the Sports Division events ended, the final event—the after-festival party—would begin. Personally, I had no interest in participating in such a loud, extrovert-oriented event, but since Reona and Riona had told me to attend, skipping it didn’t seem like an option.
“I get the feeling that even if I try to run, those two will catch me. Resisting would just be a waste of time.”
I had no idea how they did it, but Reona and Riona seemed to have some kind of special ability that let them pinpoint my location immediately. They even managed to track me down in no time when I tried sneaking out of the hotel during the school trip.
“Wait, is Reona really going to participate in the confession festival at the after-party…?”
The rumors about Reona that had been spreading lately weren’t dying down—in fact, they were gaining even more traction, and that only made me more anxious. Apparently, the confession festival wasn’t just for love confessions. People could use it as a chance to confess things they normally couldn’t say, or secrets they had been hiding until now.
But still, around ninety percent of participants used it for love confessions, so if Reona really planned to take part, there was a very high chance that was her intention too. I knew full well that someone like me could never be a match for her, but even so, I didn’t want to see her confessing to someone else.
Guys like me, who don’t get any romantic attention at all, tend to fall for someone the moment they’re treated kindly. It’s a hopeless trait indeed…
As I thought about that while getting ready for school, Reona and Riona showed up in their team T-shirts.
“Good morning. You’re already up, huh.”
“Lately, it feels like you’ve started waking up earlier than you used to, Ryouya.”
“It’s because someone started sneaking into my futon in the morning. Now I end up waking up early.”
“Boo, how boring.”
Reona reacted like that, but I wished she would consider how I felt.
Waking up to find a girl in her underwear sleeping beside you…. Come on, that’s bad for your health in all sorts of ways.
“I just finished getting ready too. Let’s eat breakfast and head to school.”
“Yeah, let’s start with breakfast.”
“Gotta fuel up before exercise.”
We moved to the dining room and started eating the breakfast that had been laid out on the table. Reona and Riona sitting at my family’s dining table had become such a normal sight. Honestly, it would feel off if they weren’t here now.
“Let’s make sure we win the three-legged race today and show everyone just how perfectly in sync Ryouya-kun and I are!”
“Just don’t get too carried away and take a big tumble. You’d drag me down with you.”
“If I do look like I’m going to fall, will you help me up?”
“I’ll do my best in that case.”
That was how I answered Reona’s question. Saying outright that I’d help her felt too embarrassing, so I ended up giving a little twisted reply instead.
“That kind of answer is very Ryouya-kun.”
“Ryouya is a tsundere. He ’d totally help you with everything he’s got if it actually happened.”
“Yeah, even that personality test we did before said Ryouya-kun was the tsundere type. That means I can fall without worry!”
“No, no, there’s definitely something wrong with being confident about falling!”
I couldn’t help but throw in a retort to Reona’s ridiculous statement. Come to think of it, the results of that personality test had pegged Reona and Riona as the yandere types.
Honestly, when I look at those two, it’s scary how accurate that might be.
After finishing our breakfast, the three of us locked up the house and headed out.
“Another beautiful day.”
“I’m glad it’s not raining.”
“Seriously. If it had gotten postponed because of rain, that would’ve been such a pain.”
I was the type who preferred to get events like this over with quickly, so the idea of it being pushed to a backup day was something I really wanted to avoid.
“Oh? I thought you didn’t want it to rain because you were looking forward to the bonfire at the after-party.”
“Yeah, right. Like that’s the reason why I don’t want it to get postponed. Come to think of it, what will happen to the after-party if it rains?”
“It gets postponed to the backup day, same as the Sports Division.”
I see—so they weren’t planning to cancel it altogether. If there was a big gap before it happened, it might kill the excitement, but I’d heard a lot of people were really looking forward to it. I guess it made sense why people would postpone them together.

Chapter 117: It’s Probably Exactly What You’re Imagining, Onee-Chan
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After arriving at school, we headed to the schoolyard with our classmates. Including the affiliated middle school, there were six grade levels gathered together, so the number of people present was overwhelming.
However, thanks to the team T-shirts, it was easy to figure out where to assemble, so there was no need to worry about getting lost. Back in middle school, I had no idea where to line up during the sports festival and ended up embarrassing myself big time. After a group warm-up, the representatives from each team gave the athlete’s oath, and the athletic events officially began. Since my event wasn’t until later, all I could do for now was sit in the spectator seats and cheer.
“Well, it’s not like there’s anyone I can really cheer for anyway.”
Aside from the three-legged race I was doing with Reona, she wasn’t participating in any other events, so the only people I could realistically cheer for were Riona and Mio. I had no desire to cheer for someone I didn’t know, so I planned to just pretend to cheer while killing time reading some novels posted on Syosetu.
As I was thinking that, Reona showed up. Right after the event began, she had disappeared for a while to discuss something with the team leader, but it seemed like she was done discussing.
“There you are. I was wondering where you’d gone.”
“I picked a spot where I wouldn’t stand out too much for skipping out on cheering. Plus, it’s in the shade.”
“You’re so… You, Ryouya.”
Hearing my response, Reona looked exasperated as she said that. And with the way she said it, “Ryouya” just sounded like an insult.
“Anyway, Riona’s event is coming up soon, so let’s go cheer her on.”
“Riona is in the scavenger hunt, right?”
“Yep, and we might actually be able to help with it, so let’s go up to the front.”
After saying that, Reona took my hand and started walking. I was already used to her naturally grabbing my hand, so I didn’t even resist. As we moved to the front of the spectator area, the scavenger hunt began. Riona’s turn wasn’t up just yet, but since we were already there, we decided to watch.
Of all the events, the scavenger hunt was the one I least wanted to do, but just watching it was surprisingly relaxing. Personally, I always thought the biggest challenge was having to prepare whatever was written on the slips of paper placed along the course.
“Seriously? How the hell am I supposed to find a student with a deviation score over 70!?”
“What!? A beefy musclehead!?”
Just like those two students shouting in confusion, some of the challenges were so outrageous or obviously jokes that it was almost cruel. Other students who drew the unlucky ones looked like they were being punished. Honestly, I was really glad I wasn’t in this event.
And then, finally, it was Riona’s turn. At the sound of the starting pistol, she dashed off, picked up a slip of paper, and then began scanning her surroundings. Iwondered absentmindedly what kind of challenge she got, when suddenly she locked eyes with me. Then, without hesitation, she started running straight toward me. I already had a bad feeling about this.
“Ryouya, come with me.”
“Uh… Would Reona, who’s standing right next to me, not work?”
“Nope.”
“Good luck, Ryouya-kun.”
I was forcibly dragged out of the spectator area. The crowd around us started murmuring, and some of the guys were glaring at me like I’d killed their parents. Seriously, what kind of challenge did Riona pull? That question lingered in my mind until we reached the goal, where I finally found out what was written on the paper.
“…Ah, I see. So that’s what it was.”
“That’s why I needed you, Ryouya.”
At the goal, the judge checked the challenge paper, and it read “princess.” Apparently, since I had played Snow White in the school play, Riona decided I fit the bill and dragged me along.
By the way, the teacher who checked the paper gave me a look like, “How the hell is this guy a princess?” but after Riona explained that I had indeed played Snow White yesterday, the teacher reluctantly approved. I thought this was the end of it—until a new problem arose.
“Hey, what was the challenge?”
“That’s a secret.”
“Ehh, I wanna know!”
“It’s probably exactly what you’re imagining, Onee-chan.”
To my horror, Riona loudly began a conversation like that with Reona. Thanks to their suggestive wording, which was clearly designed to be overheard, the stares from the crowd intensified.
No doubt about it. Reona and Riona were doing this on purpose. I felt like my peaceful school life was falling apart, but then again, when I really thought about it, it had already fallen apart a long time ago.
