After that, practice ended, but just as I expected, Reona and Riona didn’t go home right away and instead started eating the dinner Mio had made at our house. Today, Mom had come home earlier than usual, so she joined us too.
“Yeah, Mio-chan’s cooking really is delicious.”
“This is the taste of home.”
“Right? Mio’s cooking is seriously top-tier.”
“If it’s Reona-san and Riona-san saying that, I get it, but flattery from you, Mom, won’t get you anything.”
Seeing Reona and Riona having dinner with Mom and Mio was starting to become an everyday sight. At this point, their presence at our dinner table didn’t feel strange at all. Even when Dad was home, they blended in naturally without a hitch. It started to feel like they were becoming actual members of our family.
“By the way, Ryouya, aren’t you playing Snow White in the school festival’s play?”
“That’s right! Ryouya-kun insisted on playing the lead role, so I did my best to make it happen.”
“Thanks to Onee-chan negotiating so hard, Ryouya got chosen for the role of Snow White.”
“Wait, wait, I never said anything like that!”
I cut in, responding to Reona and Riona saying whatever they wanted to Mom. She was so easy to fool, it was kind of alarming.
She was so easily swayed that she had handed over a spare house key to them on the very first day they visited. I was seriously starting to worry she might fall for a scam one day. She was supposed to be a high-powered career woman, so how did this even happen?
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it that day, but I’ll try to adjust my schedule.”
“Even if you can’t come, don’t worry about it. Riona will record the play, so you can still see it.”
“I’m going to shoot the perfect video and show it to Ryouya’s Mama.”
“I’ll make sure to clear my schedule too so I can watch Onii-chan shine on stage.”
This play was already shaping up to be one of the biggest black marks in my life, and now I had to deal with my family watching it too. I was close to dying of embarrassment. Especially since my school was an elevator school. With junior high and high school’s school festival held on the same day for both divisions, there was no doubt Mio would find the time to come see it.
“By the way, it looked like you were practicing at home today too. How’s the practice? Is it going well?”
“Hmm, I think Ryouya-kun still hasn’t fully let go of his embarrassment.”
“I actually recorded today’s practice. Do you want to hear it?”
“I do!”
“Hey, hold on a sec! When did you even record that!?”
I hadn’t even realized I was being recorded, so I shouted in surprise. And there were all kinds of reasons why letting them hear that recording was a bad idea. I tried to stop them, but I was too late—Riona’s phone started playing the audio.
『Reona, Riona… I love you. Please marry me.』
It was that scene just earlier where they had tricked me into saying something outrageous. And now it was playing back for everyone to hear.
“W-what was that, Onii-chan!?”
“Huh… Not bad, Ryouya.”
Mio was flustered, while Mom was grinning—this was turning into complete chaos. Then Riona spoke up with her usual expression.
“Oops, I accidentally played the wrong clip.”
“Riona, you’re such a klutz. But well, it’s just a little slip-up after all. It can’t be helped.”
“No, no! That was definitely on purpose!”
Even if Riona had that clumsy-girl persona, there was no way that was an honest mistake FROM HER. Was she trying to completely destroy my peaceful life? No, the moment I got involved with Reona and Riona, my peaceful life had already gone up in smoke. Not even a moment of escapism was allowed now, thanks to Mio and Mom.
“…Onii-chan, are you actually serious about them?”
“Should I start preparing so I’m ready whenever the grandkids arrive?”
“Don’t take it seriously! Besides, we’re still in high school—there’s no way you’re having grandkids anytime soon!”
I pushed back against Mio, who was closing in on me, while desperately stopping Mom, who had already opened a baby goods shopping app on her phone. Meanwhile, the two of them just watched our panic with amused smiles.
Don’t tell me… Did they script that line from the start just so they could make Mom and Mio hear it?
Given how often Reona and Riona plotted things like this, it actually wouldn’t surprise me if they really did plan everything. Just as I was thinking that, I heard the front door unlocking.
“I’m home…”
“Ah, Dad! You’ve got to hear this! Onii-chan just proposed!”
“W-what is going on here!?”
Mio casually dropped a bomb right as Dad walked in the door.
Hey, don’t drag Dad into this too! And someone—anyone—please tell me how to resolve this situation amicably…

Chapter 103: Hey, Since We’re Talking About It, Should I Spell the Title Out Loud?
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
There was only one week left until the actual school festival. The preparation period, which had started immediately after the school trip, felt long and yet had passed in the blink of an eye at the same time. Unlike last year’s school festival, which had been no fun at all, this year’s seemed like it might actually be enjoyable thanks to Reona and Riona. Of course, I had no intention of telling them that—if I did, they’d tease me to no end.
“Everyone’s completely in festival mode now, huh?”
“Yeah. The people around us are so ridiculously hyped, I don’t think I can keep up with the mood.”
“Is it just me, or is it totally fine that Ryouya-kun doesn’t need to keep up since he has no friends?”
“Quit hitting me with truth bombs and turning a loner like me into a punching bag for your joke.”
“Sorry, sorry. It’s just that when I look at you, Ryouya-kun, I get this urge to mess with you.”
“I’m pretty sure you know this already, but I don’t have any kind of weird fetish where I enjoy being bullied.”
While having that kind of conversation, I was walking through the school grounds with Reona. At the moment, I was helping her—our class leader—carry uchiwa fans to classrooms in other grades.
For the school festival, all six grades of the middle and high school divisions were grouped into teams, and to promote unity, each team was preparing original T-shirts, uchiwa fans, cheering flags, and the like. Each grade was assigned a specific task—ours had been responsible for making the uchiwa fans. That said, the fan-making was mostly handled by classmates who didn’t have major roles like acting in the play, so Reona and I hadn’t really been involved with the preparation at all.
“We’ve already delivered to the first and third years’ classrooms, so next is the middle school building?”
“Yeah. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been over there, so I’m a little nervous.”
“I’ve hardly ever been, so I have no idea where anything is. I’ll leave the navigation to you, Reona.”
Although the middle and high schools shared the same campus, the buildings were completely separate, so unless you had a specific reason, there was rarely any need to go over there.
“Right. Ryouya-kun, you entered this school from high school, didn’t you?”
“Yeah. Back then, middle school entrance exams weren’t even on my radar.”
At Amaki High School, where we attended, students were split into two groups: those like Reona and Riona who had advanced internally from Amaki Middle School, and students like me who had taken the high school entrance exam. Since internal students had passed the highly competitive middle school entrance exam, they tended to have stronger academic records. In fact, Mio was one of the top students among our peers.
“Honestly, if Papa and Mama hadn’t encouraged me and Riona, we probably wouldn’t have even considered it as an option.”
“There aren’t many elementary school kids who decide on their own to take middle school entrance exams.”
“Exactly. I think most kids who take it are probably doing it because their parents suggested it.”
It wasn’t uncommon to hear kids say they didn’t want to be separated from their friends because of entrance exams, and for most elementary students, the middle school exam was undoubtedly a high hurdle to pass. Incidentally, in Mio’s case, she took the middle school entrance exam simply because her friends were taking it. Even though that wasn’t exactly the most serious reason, she still passed. She was seriously impressive. As I was thinking about that, Reona suddenly dropped a bomb.
“By the way, I know you already understand this, but don’t get all hot and excited and try anything with the middle school girls, okay?”
“Oi, oi! Like I’d ever do something like that. Where the hell is that coming from?”
“Well, I remember you had a stash of erotic manga once, and there were a few with junior high girls in them, so I just got a little worried.”
“You remember something that ridiculously dumb? Seriously?”
“Of course. I even remember the titles word for word. Hey, since we’re talking about it, should I spell the title out loud?”
“Please don’t.”
It had happened before summer break, so I figured she would’ve forgotten by now, but clearly that wasn’t the case. And if Reona remembered, then Riona probably did too—no doubt about it.
“You don’t have to worry. Riona and I are keeping a close eye on you to make sure you don’t stray down the wrong path. If anything happens, we’ll stop you with everything we’ve got.”
“I’m not going to stray down any path to begin with and wait, are you seriously monitoring me?”
“Yeah. Riona and I are watching your every single move.”
“That’s literally stalking.”
I threw in that retort in response to Reona’s joke. Honestly, stalking someone like me—a gloomy, friendless loner… I doubt I’d serve as an interesting subject to stalk. I seriously couldn’t imagine anyone being that into me. If someone like that actually existed, I’d almost want to meet them out of pure curiosity.
