With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 49- The explanation
“Today we would have friendly spars based on your magical aspect. However, unlike a normal brawl, this time you would have to defend something in order to claim victory.”
As the homeroom teacher of the first year spoke, she took out a white wristband. It had nothing in particular to look at apart from the structure which seemed like the band was overlapped over each other giving it a funky look.
No one raised any questions since Professor Maki hasn’t allowed them to speak yet.
“Today’s battle would go according to the rankings and the theme would be aggressor and defender. These days, many leading guilds are promoting defending troops and the Tower Managers also think that you guys should know some basics of how to defend yourself regardless of your traits and fighting style. That’s why this exercise would be divided into two parts.”
After a short pause, she tied the band around her wrist before showing it to the students as she spoke, “See this? This thing has no other job than to change its color according to one’s mana signature.” As she said, the shade of the wristband changed immediately from white to red like it had some warmth absorber.
“One of the two would have this band in hand and give it their magical shade. The opponent would have the job to inject their mana in the wristband the defender is wearing through any means and change its shade and keep it like that until the end of the round, which would last for seven minutes for each battle.”
Saying such she dropped her hand and raised her brows, eagerly waiting for the students to ask out their concerns. Not so long after one of the students who always remain by Ryan’s side, raised his hand.
‘He’s a bonafide Swordsman…’ Yuki noticed the raven-haired boy with dark green streaks standing at the corner with two blades hanging on either side of his waist. His eyes were barely visible yet Yuki could tell how perceptive and cautious that guy remained.
“Would it be fine to knock out an opponent?” The boy named Akisu asked in a neutral tone.
This seemed the most efficient method of winning this round since gaining the wristband or defending it would become all so easy if their opponent just lose consciousness soon after the round begins.
However, considering that this battle was about to be fought between students of adjacent rankings would surely not allow someone to just flick their opponent into oblivion.
“Yeah, sure. If you can, then why not? Any more questions?”
This time it was a spiky-haired guy who was eleventh rank in class who raised his hand.
“Once mana is injected, for how long it would remain in the same shade?”
“Hmm? You have to keep on providing mana to the band in order to retain the shade of your magical essence.”
The announcement stirred confusion amongst the students as they began whispering to each other in perplexity.
In the end, Yuki raised his hand before voicing what everyone was unsure about, “But ma’am doesn’t it mean the vanguard would have an advantage since they would just have to keep on dodging the aggressor for seven minutes? And even if the aggressor does inject their mana, it would be proven futile the very next second since the band would be remaining on the defender’s hand.”
If this really was the game then it sure is going to be one hell of a challenge for the aggressor to keep the momentum. At the end of the day, the attacking party would have no other option than to knock out the defender somehow and keep the wristband in their possession until the very end.
‘Haah~My lord is so wise~’ Some imaginary butterflies suddenly emerged in the surroundings as Maya gazed at her Yuki-sama with a fervent look.
Met with the doubtful gazes of every student, the older female stuck out her tongue and bumped her fist against her head, “Oops, I completely forgot about it.”
“…” Yuki’s expression turned blank seeing the lady acting like a kid and forgetting something related to her job.
Regardless, the Professor soon added something that satiated the students’ doubts.
“In this round, not only one student would play defender or aggressor for the whole time. Mm, let’s demonstrate for a better explanation. Yuki-kun, please come forward.”
Yuki raised his brows before nodding in assent as he went toward the teacher. Maya narrowed her gaze at the Professor since from her perspective anyone who pays more than necessary attention to Yuki, is a threat.
Even the Professor.
“Okay, now inject your mana into this…in moderation.” Hearing the Professor’s words, Yuki couldn’t help but smile wryly as he remembered the incident that transpired some days ago because of his unstable mana.
As she asked, Yuki injected his mana inside the waistband before the red shade began to turn grey…and before Yuki could react the wristband leaped forward and got stuck around Yuki’s wrist.
“Ooooh”
“So it’s like tag.”
“Seems fun~”
“Interesting.”
It was now clear to everyone how this round would go. You need to keep on snatching the wristband to defend it with your life until the round ends to be regarded as the victor.
Yuki had a thoughtful look on his face as he assessed the wristband. Soon he released his mana and the wristband returned to its original white shade.
“Alright then, everyone line up according to your ranking. Maya and Anna, please step toward the arena.”
Just as the professor we about to move toward the arena, Yuki called her.
“Umm, Professor, what about my ranking?”
Since the last time he was battling Kuroi for the fourth rank and somehow defeated her, he still wasn’t sure where he stood.
Fortunately, Maki’s following words cleared all his doubts, “Of course, you are now ranked fourth and would be fighting Ryan. Now get ready~”
Saying such, the older female approached the battle arena where the students were about to give another round of testimony of how they were developing under Japan’s best tutelage.
Since Kuroi wasn’t here, Yuki didn’t think he would need to get into an argument again. It seems she was now pushed to fifth rank after their battle from which she still was recovering.
“Hmm?” Yuki suddenly felt a massive amount of blood lust permeating from nearby before he turned his head in that direction…only to see a familiar blond staring at him blankly.
‘So he’s my opponent eh…’
Yuki didn’t falter and gave a short nod to the guy before he walked along with Maya toward the arena. He knew the reason behind Ryan’s animosity but Yuki didn’t give a single concern regarding such.
He was going to give his best. After all, he has a reputation to maintain as being the partner of the top ranker.
