With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 29- Cheap tricks?
Yuki’s power is unstable but enormous, was what the Professor in charge of first-year concluded by the performance.
Considering his past and how he has grown up until now, it was given that Yuki wouldn’t have attained any proper classes in his mana management and related skills.
The reason why the testing site exploded and that huge crater formed emerges from the fact that Yuki deployed a humongous amount of mana in the first wave. It was a common phenomenon for the new timers to let their magical essence go berserk under pressure or excitement. But the older woman has merely seen someone breaking the orb or worst case, damaging the pedestal.
Maki was one of the strongest S-rankers so it was given that she must have seen various kinds of powerhouses until now but in her eyes, Yuki was an anomaly. An anomaly who was supposed to become someone more than just a hunter bound by mere ranks.
Now the question was whether he would take the right path and become the new hope humanity is desperately searching for or would get engulfed by the darkness.
‘Regardless, it would be fun to keep an eye on him… ‘ While chuckling inwardly the lady dismissed the class after she assessed every student using the backup testing device.

[Yuki’s POV: ]
It was disheartening to see that I wasn’t given any marks for the test since the timer didn’t pass the minimum quota to get me registered.
Professor Maki indeed said that it wouldn’t affect my re-evaluation test but still, it leaves a bitter taste to see that I failed my first test.
“Serves you right! Bleh! “The person who blasted me off because of that prank I was played in, stuck her tongue out while mocking me.
I couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly at how childish this girl was. My eyes drifted toward Maya and I wasn’t surprised to see relief in them.
She might be suspicious of my sudden strength gained to get me enrolled in the Tower but from the looks of it, she must be satisfied by my results of being regarded as a failure.
I didn’t feel anger but rather sad to see how much she have changed in pursuit of power and authority. The remembrance I hold of the old Maya was slowly fading away and soon I might no longer feel anything toward this girl as well.
The class was dismissed as everyone was free to enjoy the cafeteria services. The place wasn’t crowded just like yesterday as I made my way toward the ordering counter.
“One chicken soup, two salted rice balls, and one fruit salad. ” Making my order I looked at the terminal to see the following classes and found there would be another physical class tomorrow.
But unlike yesterday, it would be one on one battles.
‘I hope they don’t put me up with someone according to my rank… ‘ I wasn’t pitying the girl whose fourth rank I stole rather I didn’t want to face that blond guy for obvious reasons.
He has been weirding me out since day one and I have a feeling that our battle would get nasty if it occurs. I do not have a complete grasp of my offensive spells and using constant barriers would be of no use until I don’t apply some trickery.
I didn’t want to lay my cards just yet and since it would be my first official duel, not counting the one-sided beatdown I faced against Hunter Kaede, I most likely want to go against someone more easier.
“Here you go.” I thanked the chef before taking the tray of food with me.
There was a vacant seat all the way back in the cafeteria. Mostly everyone was already eating their food while chatting and laughing carefreely. I was yet to be approached by someone but I do not feel much about it.
It’s better to remain alone until the re-evaluation.
‘Ah… ‘ I momentarily halted in my path since the barrier which remains around me all the time, become visible signifying that something just struck it.
I turned to look at the scrapped juice box, before turning my head from where it was thrown, only to see Maya standing with a mana circle formed over her palm.
Since she was far away from me it must have taken her some mana to throw it precisely at me, but never could I have thought she would come to such cheap tricks.
I rolled my eyes at the girl before turning back and heading toward my destination.
‘This much hate just because I didn’t become her servant…?’ I am now doubting whether I really knew Maya all this time or not.

Meanwhile, the real person who threw the trash at Yuki gritted their teeth without noticing how the first ranker Maya was just seconds away from protecting Yuki.
However, the barrier Yuki surrounded himself with made Maya halt…but how Yuki perceived the whole situation was something Maya would surely cry over tonight.
With her fiery eyes glaring at the person who tried insulting Yuki, Maya muttered under her breath, ‘I will remember that face… ‘

“And yeah…you need to continuously supply your mana in this spell so be wary when to use. This technique required chants as well so don’t try using it when you can get attacked any chance moment of carelessness… ”
After returning to my room I began teaching Shio from the book I have borrowed from the library.
Since I still had to practice my Pyrokinesis I took the book of healing spells with me so I could help Shio learn something new.
“Yuki-kun…my mana reserve has been growing recently so I think I can do it,” Shio exclaimed with her small fist clenched in determination.
The reason why her mana was increasing was obvious and seeing how she was also progressing alongside me made me happy as well.
‘Hmm?’ It seemed she just said it in the spur of the moment since as she just realized the source of growth, her face turned crimson.
I was about to hug her tight until she doesn’t go breathless but before I could have moved, the bell of my cottage rang.
After opening the door my bad mood turned worse.
It was Maya.
