With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 24- Changed plan?
After the classes, I was finally at my destination to learn something new today.
The lectures were bouncing over my head since, taking away my below-average academic records, the syllabus the teachers here are teaching was way ahead for someone novice like me.
It would take me some time but I know I would catch up in a month or so.
I provided the letter along with the digital signature of Professor Kazuya to the library security before I walked in.
There are not many books that could prove to be useful to me since the first floor as per what I have browsed in my terminal, generally contains the knowledge of spells ranging from E to D rank. And all of them are branch skills that one could attain despite having a primary trait.
So wouldn’t it be called dual awakening if someone learns a skill despite having a trait already?
No, they won’t.
Simply explained then one must have their trait signaling in that direction of what new skill someone is intending to learn.
For example, if I have proficiency with the Water element then the spell [Breeze] is something I could learn since the said spell just cools down the water molecules and divides them until they could blend with the air to form the cold wind.
A holy magic user can learn variations of barriers as well and a wind caster can levitate and so on.
Increasing ranks of those skills is in one’s capability that how much hard work they put behind their training.
From the public’s perception, I was a Barrier user so for me to use Holy Magic should be not so astounding, more so when I was ranked A in evaluation. However, the problem is…
‘I already have a top-notch healing skill with me…’
I wasn’t regretting my decision of choosing the skill since I could have never developed the healing magic I was granted through the wishes.
‘But should I keep hiding my skills and go with only barrier type?’
That was a huge question I have been asking myself for some time now. Though if the situation arises I wasn’t going to sit back and let someone else snatch away my opportunities but the problem lies in the fact that I have already been taken as an unofficial dual awakened.
‘Scrap that…let’s learn some aggressive spells for now…’
There were three floors but thanks to the browsing I did earlier on my terminal, I know my destination was on the second level.
‘P…P…ah!’
It didn’t take me long to find the book I wanted.
[Basic instruction for the beginner of Pyrokinesis]
To manipulate flames just through my will…yeah, this was the right book.
Though I was contemplative as to whether I should go with the Wind Element, I concluded that Flame would be the best form of attack for me to learn at this stage.
There are a total of six books on most subjects and on this floor, I would only be able to get my hands on the beginner level.
I checked my surroundings and created a barrier of camouflage and defense around me that would not let anyone catch me mediating until they are not looking for me specifically at this location also this barrier would provide security against the highest level of spells.
All hail the SSS-rank barrier.
‘Alright, let’s see… ‘
Drawing the book near my folded legs I flipped the pages to random halt before activating my skill.
“Initiate, Book Worm.”
Just as I commanded I found some ticklish sensation on both of my palms.
I checked it out and found there were two small holes now visible on my palms with a purple maw-like opening circulating violently like it was preparing for something.
‘I shouldn’t waste time… ‘
I only had two hours and no idea how long it would take to obtain all the knowledge from the book.
Placing my palms above the book, I closed my eyes and began receiving the information.
‘Finally, something I could actually comprehend… ‘

[At the same time:]
“You saw it too right? How Maya-sama purposely submitted her work late so that frostbite could take the prize…” One of the lackeys of Ryan spoke with a snort regarding the ‘incident’ that occurred during homeroom.
Yes, it was nothing less than an incident since the student who has a strike record of being first in every small to small task actually failed when? Today? But what was different from usual?
Of course, it would be the new student’s addition that has influenced Maya’s behavior.
“Excuse my imprudence Ryan, but I was checking Maya-sama’s working speed when Anna-sama posted her work. Maya-sama actually sped up the very instance the teacher announced the winner.”
Nothing surprising there and the bespectacled techno junkie Kabamura didn’t have to repeat the same thing Shinzo (lackey) spoke earlier.
“Hey, Ryan. What’s going on with you? You haven’t spoken since earlier.”
Akisu has always been observant, and Ryan has acknowledged it.
With a smile, the blondie began dribbling the basketball he was spinning on his index finger until now before he spoke to his friend.
“If this scores, I would destroy that bitch named Yuki. And if it doesn’t then I would take that guy on a fair fight from here on.”
Ryan was standing half-court when he proposed the idea.
Akisu knew Ryan was just playing around since today or tomorrow, Ryan would play another trick on Yuki to make him disappear from the path which could connect Maya and Ryan.
However, Akisu wanted to see whether his best friend keeps his word or not so he silently waited.
Ryan tapped the ball to the ground a couple of times more before he took the stance and with a small hop, shot the ball into the air.
Without any magic applied the ball leaped across the court before without bouncing or being obstructed even once, it cleared the net.
“So… it’s been decided.”
Akisu sighed at that. Shinzo and Kabamura were grinning widely with their palms rubbing against each other at the thought of bullying the grandson of such a legendary man.
However, “I will defeat the frosty head without any underhand tactics.”
“Eh?”
“Hah?”
Akisu didn’t voice it out but he was thoroughly surprised too.
Regardless, Ryan turned to look at his friends as he spoke his honest thoughts on Yuki.
“I am not some sissy to trick him into submission. I just want to win Maya’s heart and if it’s stuck on Yuki then I have to demolish the guy right in front of her so she could witness who’s better for her.”
Akisu didn’t care what the other two had views on this but he certainly was happy with his best friend’s decision.
It may sound like Ryan made a wise decision that was of benefit to Yuki however soon they would realize how Ryan’s decision saved these four from their demise.
After all, they still don’t have a single idea through whose recommendation letter Yuki has entered this tower…
****
A/N: – I had two options to take Ryan’s route but in the end, I want character development and world-building and with only harem members and the mc it wouldn’t have felt complete.
