Chapter 8: Chloe
“…Roa, are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, Chloe. Sorry for worrying you.”
“If you say you’re good, then I’m good.”
As Lilia waved her hand and left the room, I waved back at her with my remaining arm.
For a few minutes after closing the door, Chloe and I stared at the door in silence. Chloe was the first to speak up.
“But you shouldn’t push yourself too hard, you know? Even now, you seem to be straining quite a bit.”
“No… That’s not true.”
“It is. Look, your hand is trembling. I was right beside you the whole time, so naturally, I noticed. You may have hidden it from them, but not from me.”
Chloe enveloped my hand in both of his as he spoke.
“I understand you want things to go back to how they were with them, but don’t rush too much. If you break down from stress, it will all be for nothing. Besides… it’s too early to conclude that they’ve returned to their old selves. There’s still the possibility that this is an elaborate trap.”
“You’re right… Ah, I’m really glad you’re here, Chloe. I probably wouldn’t even have been able to see them if I were alone. I’m grateful to have such a reliable best friend.”
“S-Stop saying embarrassing things.”
“Oh? Are you blushing? It ruins your handsome prince-like face, you know?”
With his face flushed red, Chloe turned his gaze away from me and looked out the window.
As always, he had a handsome face. This is what people mean when they call someone good-looking. However, seeing him blush made him look more like a girl than a prince.
Maybe that’s the kind of gap that makes girls’ hearts race.
“Stop it, you’re always teasing me. Sigh… well, it’s fine. More importantly, you’re probably tired both mentally and physically, Roa. So rest until dinner.”
“Yeah, I’ll do that. Thanks a lot, Chloe.”
“It’s fine, don’t mention it.”
Saying that, he practically fled from the room.
Teasing Chloe was fun, but perhaps I had gone a bit too far. Reflecting on this, I shifted my gaze out the window.
What should I do now?
It’s a vague question, but it’s a question that accurately represents my current state. How should I interact with them? Is school going to be alright? Have they really returned to their old selves? Once I start thinking, anxieties begin to flood in.
There probably is no definitive answer. So, I can’t predict how the answer I presented to them today will come back to me. Maybe it wasn’t the right answer.
However, whether it’s self-satisfaction or a misconception, I’m glad that I was able to talk to them here today. That’s what I believe.

For all its worth, for this to have happened someone must have fed him the cursed potion mentioned at the beginning and the prime suspect is Chloe
