Chapter 22
I had felt something was off since I met them this morning. There was something strange about their behavior. They appeared normal, yet somehow seemed restless. I racked my brain, wondering if there was some event at school today, but couldn’t come up with any conclusions.
Their good mood would lessen the burden on me and Chloe, which was welcome. And if they were happy about something, then even after all that had been done to me, I would feel a little happy too. Was I being too naive?
As usual, a heavy atmosphere lingered in the classroom. When I opened the door, Ellie was there. The moment she saw me, she immediately came over and hugged me, and I reflexively hugged her back. I was slightly surprised to see Ellie this morning, especially since she had been busy recently and was not a morning person.
“Good morning, Ellie. What’s up?”
“I finally finished my research. Praise me, Roa.”
“You did well, Ellie.”
“Hehe, thank you.”
I patted her head and she twisted her body to press her nose to my chest, sniffing intently. I couldn’t help but chuckle. Whenever I patted her head, Ellie would do this—sniff me. At first, I felt embarrassed and told her to stop, but after it happened so many times, I simply gave up on stopping her.
Normally when Ellie hugged me, someone would intervene, but today no one did. They looked at Ellie with clouded eyes.
Something was definitely off.
“Chloe-san, it seems like Natalie-sensei wants to speak with you; she’s called for you.”
“Natalie-sensei? …But, what about Roa?”
It seems that Chloe, who had been quietly observing next to me, was called. He probably didn’t want to leave because he was concerned about me. But I was sure the girls would help me, and if anything went too far, they would listen if I told them to stop.
“Chloe, it’s fine. You can go.”
“But…”
“Don’t worry, Chloe. I’ll take responsibility for protecting Roa-kun. I’ll guard him no matter what happens.”
“That’s right. If anyone threatens Roa-sama, I’ll eliminate them all. Please go ahead and speak with Natalie-sensei.”
Seeing Chloe look at me with clearly worried eyes, I tried my best to reassure him with a smile,
“It’s okay. Go ahead.”
“I’ll be right back.”
With that, he quickly left the classroom. But what could Natalie-sensei want with Chloe? Chloe is a capable and upright person, so he wouldn’t have been called for any misconduct. It must be something to do with his family, or perhaps he’s been given some responsibility.
“Roa, look this way.”
“Hm? What’s going on, Mi—”
Mia, approaching from behind, forcefully made me drink something. I tried to spit it out instinctively, but my mouth was covered, making it impossible.
“It’s okay, Roa. Swallow it. It’s medicine to make you feel better.”
“Don’t worry, Roa-kun. Please swallow it.”
“I’m sorry, Roa-sama. But this is for your own good.”
I had a bad feeling about this, but it was already swallowed. Then, I suddenly felt sleepy, and my consciousness began to fade.
“Take a rest, Roa.”
“Rest well, Roa-kun.”
The last thing I saw were their glossy, pitch-black eyes and gentle smiles.
