Chapter 21
The research lab in the school at midnight.
Though the place was supposed to be empty, four female students were sitting in a row, discussing something.
Hearing just that, one might envision a charming scene, but the atmosphere surrounding the four female students was dark, distorted, and insane.
“So, have we identified the perpetrator?”
“If I knew who it was, I wouldn’t have called you all here. I’d have killed them straight away.”
Ellie, whose eyes were heavily ringed, responded matter-of-factly to Mia’s question.
“That’s why I’ve made… this.”
“It’s finally done, huh? I was wondering how much longer we’d have to wait.”
“Heh… so it’s complete. That drug.”
“At last, Roa-kun can find some relief, more than he has now.”
The drug that Ellie produced was designed to erase specific memories from the past. She had spent the last few weeks almost sleeplessly devoted to creating it.
“Did you confirm it with Roa-kun?”
“Yeah, Roa said, ‘To be honest, I want to forget. At that time, I wanted to die.'”
Hearing these words, the other three students blanched, as if they were about to die. They began to apologize for Roa, who wasn’t present, reflecting on the agonizingly cruel bullying of Roa they had all committed.
“But with this, I can help Roa. I will save Roa.”
Ellie twisted her body as she said those words, a blissful smile forming on her lips. What she imagined were the sweet memories she shared with Roa in the past, and the face he would make, pleased by her actions. Her IQ, although she was often called a genius or a prodigy, seemed to plummet at that moment, her mind filled with flowery daydreams.
Seeing Ellie like this, the other three returned to their previous selves, casting glances filled with jealousy and contempt at Ellie, and brought the conversation back on track.
“Are there any side effects to the drug?”
“I can’t say there are none, but they’re nearly zero. I’ve tested it thoroughly.”
“What’s that? You should create something with absolutely no side effects.”
“That’s impossible. There’s no such thing as ‘absolute’ in any field. That’s why I made it as close to zero as possible.”
The drug she had created was the result of numerous trials and errors, testing it on those targeted for purging, or on criminals. Consequently, there had been instances where people who consumed the experimental drug lost consciousness, lost all their memories, or became incapacitated.
Of course, the memories that would be erased by this drug were of the time when they had bullied Roa.
“With this, we can save Roa-kun. And then…”
“We can finally deal with the one who put us through all that.”
“Ah… how long I’ve waited for this moment.”
They believed that if Roa lost his memories of that period through this drug, the person who had instigated all this chaos would be the one most disadvantaged. That person would surely reveal themselves, they thought.
Lost in their fond memories of the old sweet Roa, all four broke into eerie smiles and let out laughs.
