Chapter 16: Piggyback Ride
Thanks to Chloe’s efforts and the assistance of the four who had regained their sanity, the classroom that had turned into a disaster area was somehow restored. However, the severed arms and legs weren’t healed.
Or more accurately, they chose not to heal them. Aria could have sutured the limbs that still retained their original shape, but she stubbornly refused to do so.
According to her,
“I don’t possess enough compassion to offer any more aid to those who insulted Roa-sama. I apologize.”
When she said this tearfully, there was nothing to be said in response. They pleaded and managed to get some of the wounds treated, at least.
The whole school seemed to be in a gloomy state, and the cheerful atmosphere that used to pervade during breaks was nowhere to be found.
During break time, they hugged me as if to protect me and intimidated those around us, insisting that they would not talk to anyone. They even threatened people who came to apologize to me, saying, “Your sincerity is lacking,” and appeared ready to gouge out eyes or sever arms. It was truly a dire situation.
Each time this happened, I felt terrible for causing trouble for Chloe. Although I wanted to voice my concerns, I couldn’t bring myself to do so, as I understood their intentions of not wanting to see me hurt ever again.
Somehow, we managed to get through all the classes and survive the day.
“Roa-sama, if walking is difficult for you, I can carry you.”
“No, that’s fine. Being carried at this age would be embarrassing.”
“In that case, would you like your big sister to give you a piggyback ride? Last time Roa-kun gave me one, so now it’s my turn.”
Lilia said this with a beaming smile.
It felt nostalgic. Back then, Lilia was not in the best mental state, and I was the one giving her a piggyback ride on our way home.
“At that time, it was different… but it’s still embarrassing.”
Upon hearing this, Lilia lowered her head and spoke in a shaky voice,
“So, you really don’t want me to do anything for you, huh? I can’t be your big sister, can I?”
Tears started to freely fall to the ground from her eyes.
“N-No, it’s genuinely just embarrassing.”
“…Really?”
“I wouldn’t lie to you. Have I ever lied to my big sister before?”
“…Well, no, but I’m still anxious. So, let me give you a piggyback ride.”
As she lifted her face, tears rolled down her cheeks. Her eyes were as dark as ever, bottomless. I felt that if I refused her offer due to embarrassment, Lilia might never come back to me.
…I had no choice but to brace myself.
“Alright. Can I rely on you, Lilia-oneechan?”
“Yes! Leave it to me!”
So, it was decided that Lilia would give me a piggyback ride on the way home. However, Mia and Aria also competed to give me piggyback rides, which ended up taking more time than it would have if we had simply walked home.

The school at midnight.
“Are you there?”
“…What is it? I’m a bit busy right now.”
A small light illuminated the research lab, revealing a restless figure.
“I have something to discuss.”
“…What?”
“Of course, it’s about my Roa-kun.”
“…He’s not yours. He’s my Roa.”
Sharp glances exchanged between them.
“…So, what is it?”
“Do you have any idea? About who did this to us.”
“…”
Silence flowed between the two.
“If you didn’t hear, I’ll tell you. It’s about who turned us into this.”
“…I heard you. To be honest, I still don’t know.”
“I see.”
“However…”
Ellie spoke in a chilling voice,
“Whoever did this to us, I plan to make them suffer. I will make them suffer over and over and over again, until they are in utter despair, wailing, and can never be born into this world again.”
“…I see.”
Having heard that, Lilia left the research lab.
