Chapter 17
“Chloe, thank you so much for today. I feel like I’ve been nothing but a burden to you.”
“Don’t worry about it. Like I’ve said many times, we’re best friends, aren’t we?”
We had just finished dinner and took a moment to relax.
Reflecting on the day, I felt like I had caused nothing but trouble for Chloe, and I thanked him again.
“…Still, I can’t help but feel that, especially after today, you shouldn’t be going to school, Roa. I have this uneasy feeling that events like today will keep happening. If things escalate any further, even I won’t be able to cover for you.”
“That’s…”
“I mean, to some extent, the influence of Lilia’s family and Aria, who is famous as a saint, will help. But still…”
I was at a loss for words in response to what Chloe had said. Indeed, if things got any worse, I would be utterly helpless.
Furthermore, the reckless behavior of those girls showed no signs of abating, which made imagining worse scenarios all too easy.
“…However, if you, Roa, still wish to go to school, I won’t stop you. I want to support what you want to do.”
“Thank you, Chloe. I really have no words other than gratitude. If you were a girl, I probably wouldn’t be able to see anyone but you.”
“…I see. Well, I’m a guy. If I were a girl, I’d definitely fall for you, Roa, and I would never let you go.”
Chloe shuddered momentarily and while covering his mouth with his hand he replied so.
Did I say something inappropriate?
I realized the awkwardness of expressing such thoughts about someone of the same gender. It was a moment for reflection.
“Well then, Roa. I think I’ll head back to my room. You must be tired from today, so it’s better if you sleep early.”
“Alright.”
“Make sure you actually sleep, okay? Don’t stay up late or go outside saying you want to practice walking.”
“I—I get it, alright.”
His gaze seemed to scrutinize me as he said it, making me feel a little sad for being untrustworthy. But it was my own fault, so there was no helping it.
“Well then, goodnight.”
“Yeah, goodnight. See you tomorrow.”
Chloe quietly closed the door and left the room.
Now, I should get some sleep too. I don’t want to get scolded by him.
