Chapter 12
“…Roa, wouldn’t it be better for you to stay at home? There’s no need to rush. Though you’ve mostly recovered thanks to their frequent healing spells, you’re not entirely well yet. I’ve said this before: I don’t find it bothersome or annoying to have you at home.”
“…I’m fine, Chloe. You’re worrying too much.”
Chloe repeatedly looked at me with concern, making such remarks. How many times has this happened since yesterday? The closer it gets to the time for school, the more he says things like this.
I appreciate his concern, but being worried about too much makes me feel guilty. Just last night, he had tears in his eyes. Making someone as cool as Chloe—referred to as a prince—cry is something only I might do.
Chloe pleaded with me fervently. There had been more than one or two moments when I thought of giving in.
“Look, haven’t you learned all about school lessons from Ellie? Learning from Ellie is much better than from any subpar instructor. So, isn’t it fine if you don’t go for about another month?”
“…That won’t do.”
I have a feeling that if I give in to Chloe’s request now, I’ll continue to slide down this path indefinitely.
“…Sigh, Roa, you’re really stubborn. Fine, have it your way. But if anything happens, tell me immediately. I’ll try to stay with you as much as possible.”
“Thank you, Chloe.”
Chloe sighed, looking genuinely resigned as he agreed with me.
“Also, I think you know this, but just because they’ve recovered doesn’t mean everyone else has gone back to normal, and besides…”
“…Yeah, I know.”
Even before they started acting strange, there had been a certain number of people who disliked me, resented me, or were envious of me. I was a commoner who had the privilege of being close friends with these extraordinarily beautiful and academically excellent girls. The envious gazes from the guys and nobles trying to win them over were more than I could count.
After they started acting weird and hurting me, those guys and nobles seized the opportunity to torment me as well.
Though, to be fair, there were some people who had been kind to me before everything went awry.
“Then shall we go?”
“Yeah.”
We dressed in our uniforms and decided to leave the mansion for school.
