Chapter 11
Nearly two weeks had gone by since I regained consciousness. At first, simple movements were a struggle, but I’ve made significant progress in my recovery. I can now walk without any issues, and I owe a lot of this improvement to the devoted care I received from Chloe, the housemaids, and the girls who visited me.
Mia had been particularly attentive. She started visiting me the day after she came to apologize, taking care of me and even casting healing magic.
Whenever I tried to do something myself, Mia would preemptively do it for me. At this rate, the only thing left for me to do myself was probably just going to the toilet.
I started feeling guilty for being taken care of so much that when I tried to eat on my own, she said,
“Ah, I’m sorry, Roa. You don’t want me taking care of you, do you? I’m sorry, I got carried away. I’ll disappear, okay? Will you forgive me then? I’m sorry for getting in your way until the end.”
She raised a fruit knife to her throat as she said this, so I immediately stopped her and decided to let her take care of me. If I hadn’t stopped her, Mia would likely have gone through with it. Her eyes were that serious.
Lilia, Ellie, and Aria were also overly eager to take care of me. If I refused their assistance, they would start apologizing like crazy and burst into tears.
Aria was the worst among them.
It all started when I refused her offer to assist me in the toilet. Though she had once been on the verge of killing me, we used to be very close friends. Adding to the awkwardness was the fact that she’s an attractive woman, making the situation even more uncomfortable than it had been with Chloe.
I naturally refused her help, but the moment I did, she jabbed her finger into her own eye. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening, but just as she aimed her finger at her other eye, I grabbed her hand and stopped Aria.
“…Please don’t stop me, Roa-sama. I am nothing but a burden to you, a mere speck of dust. I can’t even understand what you want, constantly getting in your way. My eyes should exist to never miss your every move, and if they can’t even do that, then I don’t need them.”
As Aria spoke, blood trickled from her injured eye. Her expression was vacant, her face resembling a Noh mask.
I carefully persuaded Aria, and somehow managed to get her to understand. The situation calmed down, and she healed her own eye. But I couldn’t be sure when she might end up in that state again.
It wasn’t just Aria and Mia; Lilia also said, “I’m sorry, I’m such a useless big sister. I might as well be dead,” and tried to jump out of the window. I was learning my school lessons from Ellie, but since she’s a genius, she struggled to explain things whenever I stumbled. “I can’t even make the most out of the opportunity Roa gave me. Why am I even alive? I don’t know,” she said, beginning to cast magic on herself.
Every time I had to calm them down, my suspicions that they were trying to trap and kill me gradually disappeared. They must be going to such lengths to take care of me and reaching such states because they genuinely want to be forgiven by me.
Well, stopping them each time was a hassle. But with all that had happened, my health recovered, and I was able to return to school the next week.
