Chapter 10
“…Roa, you shouldn’t push yourself too hard. Even though you’ve somewhat recovered, straining yourself could worsen your condition. Take your time to heal. The doctor also said you shouldn’t overexert yourself.”
“I’m fine, Chloe. I’m not pushing myself.”
I managed to sit up and somehow stood on my own feet. Well, it would be tough without Chloe’s support. Missing an arm was undeniably inconvenient; it threw off my sense of balance. I had Chloe let go of the hand that was supporting me, and I stood by myself.
Chloe watched me the entire time, his face filled with worry.
This morning, after waking up and having breakfast in my room, I had decided to start my rehabilitation exercises right away.
My primary concern was to not cause any more inconvenience to Chloe’s family… but having Chloe and the maid assist me with going to the bathroom was too embarrassing at this age.
I think neither the maid nor Chloe minded, but the awkward atmosphere was unbearable, and I was embarrassed. I wanted to at least be able to walk to the toilet on my own.
Telling Chloe, “I’m fine,” with a smile, I took a step forward. Just as I was casually thinking I could walk surprisingly well, my body stopped obeying me and I almost fell flat on my face.
“Roa!”
Chloe supported me, preventing me from falling completely.
“Roa, didn’t I tell you?”
“…Yes.”
Chloe was visibly, unmistakably angry.
“I don’t want you to get hurt, Roa.”
“Yes.”
“Isn’t that what anyone would want? No one wants to see their friend in pain. Let’s take it step by step without overexerting yourself. Don’t rush.”
“…Yes.”
Unable to come up with a retort, I had no choice but to quietly accept Chloe’s words. To an outsider, we probably looked like a younger brother being scolded by his elder sibling.
“…Ah. Knowing you, you’re probably thinking you’re causing too much trouble for me, aren’t you?”
“That’s…”
Caught off guard by how accurately he pinpointed my thoughts, I found myself at a loss for words.
“I thought so. Don’t worry about it. I’m doing this because I want to. We help each other out when we’re in trouble, right?”
“Y-yeah.”
Chloe looked at me and smiled. I really couldn’t match up to this best friend of mine.
With Chloe’s assistance, I managed to stand up again, and this time we took slow steps together. We made it once around the spacious room before Chloe called for a stop.
“That’s enough for today.”
“Eh?”
“You only woke up from a severe injury yesterday. No more moving around. That’s a promise between you and me. Got it, Roa?”
“Y-yes.”
Chloe exuded an atmosphere that brooked no argument, all while smiling. I obediently nodded.
“I have training, so I’ll be leaving now. Don’t you dare try to walk or strain yourself while I’m gone.”
“Uh, okay.”
Chloe locked eyes with me one last time before leaving the room.
Naturally, ignoring Chloe’s words was not an option—not just because I’d face a lecture of unknown length. So I decided to obediently recline on the soft bed.
