When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
The Forest Wolf, which is holding the Yokozuna Devil I caught earlier in its mouth, growls at me. It clearly seems like it wants to attack me. There are five different types of Forest Wolves based on their colours, each with different strengths and characteristics.
The Forest Wolf in front of me right now is black, black coloured Forest Wolves are considered the weakest among the five of its types. However, with my current status values it is still a formidable enemy for me.
It seems to have been attracted by the scent of blood after I smashed the head of the Yokozuna Devil earlier. In the game, monsters are generally supposed to stay in the forest, but it this world, that doesn’t always seem to be the case.
In the game, monsters generally won’t come out of the forests in the early stages of the game. So, it is unlikely to encounter a monster outside the forest in the early stage of the game, however, when you get into the mid-stages of the game, monsters tend to come out of the forests more frequently.
In my entire life living in the village, I have never seen a real monster before. Machikane Village is really peaceful after all, I have never heard a monster approaching our village.
So, that’s why the remaining of the Yokozuna Devils I have caught and left behind kept disappearing. It turns out that the monsters came out of the forest and ate them. Perhaps the reason I hadn’t encountered any of them before is simply due to luck.
To think about it again, it’s quite strange that I never noticed that the remaining of the fishes I caught completely disappeared every time I come to the lake. It makes me question my own awareness, but there’s no use regretting it now.
Oh no, what should I do? Cold sweat drips down my back, and I can feel the hairs on my body standing on end. My body begin to gradually tremble.
The Forest Wolf, who have been glaring sharply at me all this time, maintains its glare while slowly and cautiously moving its front paw. It’s as if it is probing the situation. Slowly, with each step, it steadily and deliberately approaches me. Feeling helpless, I try to maintain my distance from the Forest Wolf while keeping a close eye on it.
The distance between me and the Forest Wolf closes bit by bit.
Splash!
When I look below, I realize that my feet are already submerged in the lakeshore. Ah, that’s right, in my previous life, I remember watching a documentation about wolves on TV, if I remember correctly wolves give up on prey that escapes into the water. This might be my only option.
I slowly walk backwards, and my legs gradually submerge in the water. As the water reaches around my knees, I gather up my courage and take a big leap into the lake. I desperately swim to get away from the Forest Wolf. I relentlessly swim until my feet can no longer touch the lakeshore.
When I turn around, I see the Forest Wolf hesitating at the lakeshore, it’s as if it is deciding whether to enter the water or not.
After hesitating for a while, the Forest Wolf finally gives up and disappears into the forest.
Uwaa, I’m saved! I thought I was surely going to die, but somehow, I managed to survive.
I thought of observing my surroundings a little longer in case the Forest Wolf decided to come back, but the water in the lake is extremely cold. My body is already trembling from the cold. Moreover, I am worried that I might be attacked by a Yokozuna Devil if I stay in the water too long. So, I decided to swim slowly to the lakeshore while observing my surroundings.
Immediately after I get out of the lake, I retrieve my fishing equipment and hurriedly walk towards the river, making my way back home.
By the time I get home, I’m soaking wet. Both of my parents are puzzled to see me like that and I even got scolded for it.
After I take a nice hot bath, my mind finally calmed down. I suddenly feel exhausted, perhaps because of the adrenaline, I didn’t feel tired at all earlier. I lay down on my bed and not long after, I fell asleep.
