When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
All of this started because I want to hunt monsters and eat meat. The reason I want to eat meat is because I got tired of the food I always eat. It’s not like mom’s cooking is bad, but I’m tired of eating vegetable stew and bread all the time. However, when I actually encounter a monster and felt the real horror of its presence, I realized that my family and everyone else in the village are living with such fear every day. If the monsters suddenly decided to attack the village, no one can do anything about it. That’s why it made me want to become stronger even more so that I can protect both my father and mother.
There are several hurdles that I need to overcome in order for me to be strong enough to handle monsters. However, the biggest hurdle is my current job, a farmer.
In the game, farmer is a job exclusive to NPCs, the protagonist can’t take that job. I have been reminded many times, that being a farmer is not suited for combat due to its low status values. Even though my status gradually grows bit by bit along with my level, it is still not enough.
If my job were a warrior, a swordsman, or a magician, I believe that even at my current level, I would have been able to defeat that the Forest Wolf I encountered at the lake easily.
Of course, each job has its own strengths and weaknesses, which will also greatly affect one’s status values. However, for instance, if the protagonist and I were at the same level with the same job, the protagonist’s stats should be way higher than mine, it is due to individual talents also affect our own status values in this world.
By the way, speaking of talents, my talent is probably average or maybe even below average. Whenever I go through the village on my way to the lake, I sometimes used the appraisal skill to the villagers I came across. Their status values are not that much different from mine.
Well, because I don’t have a great individual talent, the benefits of a job will even have a greater impact on me.
However, changing jobs is not an easy thing to do. It may be impossible for a commoner to change their job. There are two ways to change jobs, the first one is to go to the church and ask for a job change, or you can change your job by your own by using a Job Change Gem which is available at the magic item shop.
Regardless of the method, changing jobs will require a significant amount of money, and even if I have enough money, not all job options can be selected. If I don’t meet the necessary condition for the job I want, I won’t be able to select it.
Even the protagonist is similar in this regard, but there are cases where some people are born with a wide range of job options regardless of their conditions. It implies that they have natural individual talent. However, for a commoner like me, a child from a farmer’s family, I’m sure that I won’t be able to select most of the jobs unless the I meet the specific conditions for each job.
As an instance, to become a swordsman, you may need to defeat a certain number of monsters using a sword, and the conditions may vary for each person. If the job I want to select is more powerful, the conditions will also be more challenging.
Finding out these conditions was also one of the enjoyable aspects of playing the game. Since I roughly remember the conditions for each job, it’s not a big problem for me. The main issue for me to change my job is money…
Anyway, although it’s almost impossible for me to change jobs, I want to find a way to make it happen. I’ll consider it as my long-term goal.
