When I Tried Strengthening 【Rusted Sword】, It Evolved Into An Overpowered Magic Sword
Chapter 34 Stagnation
Move the operating base?
“Does that mean going to a different town?”
“Yeah, that’s right~. In a big town~, there are so many requests~, so you might even get introduced to high-paying ones~, and you might be able to earn a lot~.”
I see.
With that advice from Charm-san, I nodded in agreement.
Moving the operating base to a bigger town than here.
Certainly, that approach might be effective in expanding possibilities.
The town of Milchronde where I am currently staying is just a town for fledgling adventurers.
There are many simple requests, and copper-ranked adventurers are competing to take them, so maybe going to another town could get more requests introduced.
And among them, there might be high-paying requests or ones that can be efficiently earned depending on combinations.
“While continuing activities in the same town~ is certainly considered a good thing~, traveling around and finding a place that suits you as an operating base~ is what I think is the best~.”
The words of the veteran guild staff were deeply convincing.
I also think that’s the best.
And Dia, a member of the party, also agreed in the same way.
“It might be a good idea to move the operating base. There should be plenty of requests in a big town.”
“Yeah, it could be a viable option. Above all, it sounds interesting to be able to see different places, and I’m in favor of it too.”
Now the issue is where to move the base.
Ideally, it should be a big town, and having an adventurers’ guild is a given.
There are a few candidates that come to mind, but it’s probably best to ask this person first.
“Um, Charm-san, do you have any recommended towns or anything?”
“Hmm~, recommended towns, you say~? Maybe a safe bet would be ‘Bluestoria’~.”
Bluestoria, huh?
I’m familiar with that town too.
It’s a famous port town located southeast of here.
It’s a more prosperous town than Milchronde, with most buildings having a refreshing appearance dominated by blue and white tones.
There are many facilities like beaches and inns, and it seems to attract a constant stream of tourists for seaside activities.
Of course, there’s also an adventurers’ guild, and I hear that many adventurers stay there.
“From Bronze to Master~, there are many adventurers of all ranks~, so I’m sure there are plenty of requests~. Besides~, even just going for sightseeing would be worth it~.”
“That does sound like a good idea.”
Being able to do regular sightseeing regardless of finding requests is a positive aspect.
If that’s the case, maybe I’ll consider going there.
As I was thinking about it, Charm-san suddenly exclaimed as if she had remembered something.
“Oh, but~”
“…?”
“Lately~, it seems like there have been incidents of adventurers who are active in Bluestoria~ going missing~.”
Adventurers missing?
Wondering what that could mean, I tilted my head, and Charm-san continued, also tilting her head.
“Especially~, adventurers from Bronze to the lower classes of Gold~, it seems like they’ve disappeared after going to certain areas~. It’s mysterious, isn’t it~?”
“Huh? That means…”
I involuntarily glanced at Dia.
As expected, she was wide-eyed and frozen, just as I anticipated.
Disappeared after going to a certain area.
It’s similar. The situation where Dia’s parents disappeared.
Her parents also went to an area called ‘ Shiragane Kutsu ‘ and never came back.
The reason is still unknown.
Dia became an adventurer to search for her parents and aims for Platinum class to enter the ‘Shiragane Kutsu.’
In the midst of all this, hearing about a similar incident might understandably elicit such a reaction.
Could there be some connection?
“Well, in some circles~, there’s talk that adventurers who gave up on completing requests~ abandoned the quests and ran away~. Anyway, the truth is still unknown~.”
“…”
Unknown disappearances for unknown reasons.
While it can’t be asserted that there is a connection, it’s definitely an event worth noting.
I should discuss this with Dia later.
Anyway…
“So, if that’s the case, it seems better to refrain from going to Bluestoria?”
“That might be a good idea~. I don’t think there’s anything wrong~, but just in case~ it might be better to refrain for a while~.”
So, we decided to postpone moving the base to Bluestoria.
There’s no point in willingly jumping into a risky situation.
Well, if there were any clues related to Dia’s parents, it would be a different story.
In any case, I have to come up with another candidate.
I asked Charm-san again, apologizing for the repetition.
“So, are there any other recommended towns?”
“Hmm, aside from Bluestoria, there’s Grinda and Pinkmerica, I suppose. Oh, but Grinda is quite far from here, and Pinkmerica is known for attracting challenging requests, so even a copper-ranked adventurer might not get many referrals. As for other significant towns, there’s Yelosia, but they don’t even have an Adventurer’s Guild. It’s a bit tricky, isn’t it?”
“…”
Charm-san hasn’t come up with a solution despite wracking her brains.
In that case, it seems there really isn’t a town that suits our current situation.
It can’t be helped; it looks like we have to give up on moving the base for now.
It seems we’ll continue to rely on the town of Milchronde, or rather, this guild for a while longer.
…Well, I guess it is what it is.
Financially, the current situation is indeed challenging.
So, the discussion turned towards relocating to a place where we could earn more.
But if we do that, I’ll be separated from Charm-san, whom I’ve just gotten to know. That would be very lonely.
So, maybe for a little while longer, it’s okay to give it our best shot here in Milchronde.
Since I can’t make this decision on my own, I’m curious to hear the opinions of my party member, especially Dia.
However, she’s still frozen in place, so I’ll ask her later.
For now, I bowed my head to Charm-san.
“Sorry, Charm-san. We’ll think about the rest ourselves. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, even though you were working…”
“No problem~. Don’t worry about it at all~. As a guild staff, talking to adventurers is part of my job~.”
The fluttering-clothed young girl said this with a cheerful smile.
And with a nod, I was about to leave, pulling Dia, and head towards the reception desk…
Just before that, Charm-san called out to us from behind.
“Tomorrow, I’ll prepare a high-paying request for you, so be sure to come to the guild. I’ll definitely find the perfect request for you two~.”
“Yes, thank you!”
I thanked Charm-san with the most heartfelt gratitude of the day.
Consulting with her was the right decision after all.
But what kind of request would be perfect for us?
Charm-san seems to be a bit overestimating our abilities, so we might end up with a rather challenging request.
It’s a bit scary, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow very much.
