- Chap 12 - The Hero faces a test of survival in a level 1 town. - Heroes
We only had one day to prepare, so we decided to head to the castle right away. The Queen was already waiting for us, and she knew what had happened.
“I told you not to stand out,” uttered the Queen.
“What was expected of me? Let her get hurt?”
“You shouldn’t have sent the Hero to the infirmary.”
Well, that wasn’t exactly me, but it didn’t matter anymore.
“There’s no need to apologize; he was just weak,” Amaterasu interjected with disdain.
Even in this situation, she won’t apologize.
“It was my fault, Queen, for not stopping her before she almost killed the Hero.”
The Queen nodded and looked at me with a serious expression on her face.
“You’re right, it’s your fault. I hate seeing people get injured. But I’m glad you didn’t let her kill him. The Hero will be able to help us. He has the power of the Gods, so maybe he can save our country from destruction.”
“But…”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of everything.”
With that, the Queen walked away without another word.
“Seriously, you let that old lady boss you around like that? And worse, that director who isn’t even capable,” Amaterasu complained.
“I don’t think she’s all bad,” said the boy. “She has a point, the Hero is known for helping the people and with the accident…”
“He was going to kill Stella!”
I couldn’t let it go, even with the Queen’s logic.
“Master, is this my fault?” Stella asked.
I took a deep breath and held it in. It was true, if I hadn’t gotten involved things would have come out differently.
“It’s fine, you weren’t at fault. It was my mistake.”
At my words, Stella seemed relieved.
“Everything that happened was because of the Hero’s bias,” the boy added.
“I have to agree with him,” replied Stella. “He came straight at me, even when I did nothing.”
“Darling, in this country people like Stella are seen as slaves. For the hero to be defeated by her is very humiliating,” explained Amaterasu.
“But he wasn’t like that when we first met,” I said.
“Months of brainwashing, the King managed to make him like this,” Amaterasu was aware of the actual issue as she explained again.
I didn’t know why I was the one getting blamed.
“This is ridiculous! This guy is the one at fault!” Amaterasu shouted.
“Now, calm down,” I said. “We still have one day left, so let’s focus on that.”
“Yes, Master,” Stella replied.
The next day, we were all taken to where the carriage would be waiting for us. The trip was going to last 3 days, so Amaterasu decided to train the boy, who mentioned his name was Tom.
“How long until you become a true swordsman?” she asked.
Tom looked at her with his wide eyes.
“Why are you asking me?” he asked back.
Amaterasu smiled at his question.
“Because if you delay us, don’t expect me to save you, my only priority is Adam.”
Sigh, why did she have to be like this?
“Amaterasu, take it easy on him,” I said. “At this rate he won’t last a day, right.”
“I can’t be soft on him, dear. If he stays weak, he’ll only slow us down,” Amaterasu replied.
I guess there’s nothing else I could do…

On the third day, we finally arrived in the City. We entered through the gate and were welcomed by a group of guards.
“Welcome to the city, please come with us,” one of them said.
We followed along and went inside the main building, which reminded me of an ancient castle, except for the fact that it had many rooms. There was also a throne room, which I assumed belonged to the King.
“Welcome, Heroes, thank you for coming here today.” A man dressed in an expensive robe greeted us.
“Thank you for welcoming us. I am the Lord of this land.”
Lord, huh? I guess he was the one who called me up here.
“My name is Adam,” I introduced myself.
“And what brings you here today? Have you brought the peace proclamation for the countries?” he asked.
“That’s correct,” answered Amelia.
“Then, I wish you good luck. Please, make sure not to cause any trouble while you’re here.”
“I understand.”
“Good. Then, if you would follow me,” he continued.
We followed along. After walking for some time, we reached the room where the group of adventurers were waiting.
“Welcome, as part of your training, we shall head to the level 1 town,” said the person who looked like the Leader.
“Level 1?” I asked in a puzzled manner.
“A level 1 town is where we can test how much your magic has improved. If you manage to survive, then congratulations, you’re an adventurer!”
“Are you serious?!” I exclaimed.
“Well, yeah, I mean you’re already a Hero, right? Why wouldn’t you be able to survive?” the leader explained.
“I haven’t done anything yet!”
“Don’t worry, I’ll give you a boost potion before you go.”
“What about everyone else?” I asked.
“If they want to join you, they can,” he answered.
“I see…”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“All right then, I’ll get the potions ready. Everyone should drink theirs beforehand. Let’s meet here after we’re finished,” he concluded.
After saying our farewells, we headed to the room. I opened the door and saw that there were several other people inside, all wearing the same robe.
“Welcome to the training room. You must have all just arrived from the capital, am I right? Now, let me explain something: this is a place where we can test your strength, so no killing or harming anyone, alright? And try not to break anything too. I’m pretty sure you can figure out how to use it though,” the leader explained.
“Alright, got it,” I said.
“Same goes for you,” he added, looking at the adventurers.
They all agreed. Amaterasu started her attack, her ice aura went straight for the leader, while Stella stayed to protect me.
The leader managed to defend himself with difficulty.
“You’re a powerful magician, but you have no experience in combat.”
“Really? What makes you say that?” Amaterasu asked.
“It seems like you’re trying to beat me with magic alone.”
“Oh, I see,” Amaterasu said. She stopped attacking and looked at the others.
“I thought I could win without using my sword,” she apologized.
“No need to apologize,” the leader said.
He turned his attention to the rest of the adventurers.
“I’m surprised you guys are still alive,” The leader said to his team.
Before I knew it, everyone was defeated without me needing to act.
“With that, tomorrow we’ll head to the city,” the leader said.
After that, we went straight to rest. Just like that, the day passed, and as promised, we went to the cursed city. The city was in ruins, monsters roamed through it in broad daylight.
“This is the perfect place for your training,” the leader said.
“Better be,” Amaterasu replied.
“Right? This is a great opportunity,” Tom added.
“Let’s do this,” Stella cheered.
“I’ll help too!” Tom cried.
“Hey! If you don’t shut up, I’m going to blast you into pieces!” Amaterasu threatened him.
“I-I’m sorry!” Tom quickly shut up.
“Now, let’s go,” the leader said.
We followed his directions and ended up in front of the gates.
