- Chap 11 - The Cursed City and the Heroes' Training - Heroes
– Back to the protagonist –
My first day at school was just a presentation and a simulated fight, which Amaterasu and I won effortlessly.
Meanwhile, Stella was separated from me by the instructors. Every time I tried to call her close, something or someone stopped me.
At halftime, I saw the Hero threatening her, without thinking twice but I didn’t expect Amaterasu to hit him so hard.
Because of this mistake, we were summoned to the Director’s office while the Hero went to the infirmary.
“Leo, Amaterasu, Stella and Tom, why would they send the Hero to the infirmary?”
The Director’s tone felt a bit weird.
“Indeed, this is good. I didn’t move a muscle and yet I am being judged,” The boy grumbled beside them.
“Self-defense.” Amaterasu seemed to be prepared with an answer.
“Your self-defense cost my best student several of his ribs.”
The Director was clearly enraged as the blatant bias was visible in his tone.
“My Master did nothing, he just stopped his sword. The one to hurt him was the Ice Queen.” Stella came back with a solid reply, pushing all the blame on Amaterasu.
“You vixen, which side are you on?” Amaterasu’s face turned gloomy at the sudden change in situation.
“I support my Master!” Stella clicked her tongue in reply.
“Tsk, why am I here with these freaks?” The boy muttered under his breath.
The argument continued until a woman opened the door and interrupted the Director.
“Good to meet you, Everyone, my name is Amelia.”
Her tone was mellow yet sharp as the Director furrowed his brows. Listening to this, there was a change in expression on the Director’s face. And sure enough–
“Director, I must remind you that no one should be punished without good proof.” Amelia began by saying, “Even more when the person is the Queen’s adopted son.”
“What do you want, Amelia?” Director asked. He could sense the subtleties in those words, but still he had to do something.
“I’m here for Adam, and I don’t want our Director to side with injustice.” Her words pierced straight to the point.
“Tch! He beat up the otherworldly hero and sent him to the infirmary.” Director replied in a cold tone.
“From what I heard, it was a legitimate act of defense, so that was his fault.” Amelia was not bothered about the condition of the Hero.
They talked for a few minutes, with one person attacking the other.
“The conversation is good, but I don’t want to spend all day here, so you’d better settle the punishment soon.”
The boy who saved Stella uttered in a boring way.
Although he did his best to protect her, the fault for this mess was mine and Amaterasu’s. If I hadn’t been so careless and left her, we wouldn’t be in this situation. All we could do now was wait for the punishment.
“I don’t want any trouble with the Queen’s son. So you’re going to replace the Hero on a training mission, let alone the Prime Minister’s right-hand, so your punishment will be simple.”
The Director announced the punishment.
Amelia didn’t seem happy, and she was afraid that the Director would send us on a file-burning mission, so she spoke out against it but there was nothing she could do. The only thing she got was the right to go with us to make sure that nothing bad would happen on the trip.
The Director gave us a day to prepare for the task.
The mission was to tour with a team that was already well-known in the Guild.
-Cursed City-
Far away in a distant city, a group of experienced adventurers were on a mission to investigate a ghost town that was rumored to be plagued with strange occurrences. Their years of quests had toughened them and made them rugged, ready to face any challenge that lay ahead.
Their task was twofold as they had also agreed to train a group of newly summoned Heroes, but their current location was far from the Heroes’ home base. The mission to monitor the cursed city for a few days and collect data seemed straightforward at first, but they soon found themselves struggling with even the weakest of monsters.
Frustrated with their lack of progress, the Leader grumbled, “Dammit, we’re going to have to cancel the tour with those Hero kids since we ended up in this place.” The unfortunate turn of events had left a sour taste in his mouth.
But as they contemplated their next move, the Leader realized that their quest to the ghost town was less lucrative than the Heroes’ training. He decided to prioritize the latter and said, “Let’s go back and take care of them. This mission can wait since the reward is lower.”
The adventurers had been struggling to qualify for S-Rank quests for years, and they knew they needed outside help to advance. They had no choice but to accept the King’s request to train the newly summoned Heroes, even if it meant postponing their mission to the ghost town.
The Leader’s thoughts then turned to the healer in their party, whom he had recently kicked out to save money. He couldn’t help but feel guilty for his decision, knowing that the healer was the only one who had shown him respect.
“Leader, why don’t we hire the new Hero?” one of his companions suggested. “He’s rising in rank too fast.”
The Leader shook his head. “It’s too expensive,” he replied. “For now, we’ll just escort the group of assholes. Maybe even put them to work doing our job,” he said slyly, knowing that the Heroes could be a valuable asset to their cause.
