Volume 01 Chapter 03: To Train Is to Conquer Oneself
The smartphone alarm blares. As usual, I drag myself up to get ready for work…
“Oh, right, I’m in another world… Seriously?”
Looks like the cliché of waking up to a normal day didn’t happen.
Maybe I’m actually just sleeping or in a hospital, and I haven’t gone to another world at all?
I entertain the thought, but even if this is a dream or delusion, I’m not about to go wild. I’ve got my own sense of ethics and pride.
Enough escapism—let’s get to work managing this dungeon.
For now, the only thing I can do is train my minions—goblins and green slimes—by teaching them tactics.
Sadly, just because a day has passed doesn’t mean DP (Dungeon Points) magically replenish. Apparently, items produced in the dungeon generate magic but don’t convert to DP.
So, how do you earn DP? Since the dungeon’s purpose is to circulate magic, DP is gained by absorbing magic from external sources.
That’s right—external sources. Even if my minions’ MP leaks into the dungeon, it just goes toward their maintenance costs.
In theory, if I had a ton of MP, I could inject it into the Dungeon Core to convert it to DP, but that’s a hard pass. With danger lurking, I’m not about to turn my lifeline—MP—into DP.
As a sort of failsafe, converting MP to DP via the Dungeon Core has a 100:1 ratio. My max MP is 690, so even if I poured it all in, I’d get only 6 DP. Honestly, I’d consider it if I were holed up with no visitors for a year or so.
The best way to earn DP is to lure enemies into the dungeon and defeat them. Their HP and MP get converted into DP.
I haven’t defeated any enemies yet, so I’m not convinced by tutorial info alone—I’m the type who needs hard data.
The next method is getting enemies to use their MP. When they cast magic, their MP disperses into the dungeon, converting to DP based on the amount used.
The least efficient but most sustainable method is…
When a living being stays in the dungeon for over an hour, their MP is naturally absorbed and converted into DP.
The conversion rate is 1 DP per hour. Powerful mages or heroes leak more MP unconsciously, so the yield is higher, but generally, it’s just 1 DP.
The long-term plan is to gather human-like races in the dungeon, build a town, and farm DP semi-permanently.
But that’s tough. Dungeons have a “gateway to death” reputation, so getting human-like races to live here is a distant goal. Wild animals? Too unreliable.
Back to square one: I need to prepare my forces to defeat enemies entering the dungeon and collect DP.
According to Luna, my goblins and green slimes are unusually strong.
She blamed it on my Earth origins, but I’m not reassured.
No matter how strong they are for their kind, they can’t take down a level 100 enemy. I’d only feel secure with monsters capable of crushing heroes or demon lords.
In light novels or manga, having stronger-than-average monsters as allies is synonymous with reliable partners, but that’s only true within those worlds.
So, I decide to arm my goblins and slimes with the ultimate weapon: the internet.
“Listen up! I’m going to train you to defeat enemies! But that’s not the real goal. The true purpose is to surpass your current selves!! Don’t get it? No, with your intelligence, you should! In the end, you’re always fighting yourself. If you defeat an enemy tomorrow that you couldn’t beat today, that means you didn’t just beat them—you beat the version of yourself that couldn’t win yesterday!! Don’t get complacent. Learn and grow stronger to never lose to yesterday’s self!!”
I give an impromptu speech, unsure if they understand, but I relay the training plan.
“First, form teams of five, assign a captain and vice-captain, and train as squads in CQB—Close Quarters Battle!!”
No firearms here, but this is still highly effective.
The gap between medieval Europe-level teamwork and our proud modern combat tactics is massive, both technically and mentally.
And to those who think teaching human tactics to goblins is pointless—don’t worry.
I posted on a forum: “How to optimize CQB for goblins and slimes?” The responses ranged from funny to practical.
Comparing modern intellectuals’ collaborative forums to medieval Europe’s insular exchanges is a waste of time.
But training alone isn’t enough. Classroom learning is key to getting stronger. So, I explain the dungeon as we go.
First Floor: A classic stone maze dungeon. Use the traps laid out for tactical advantage and narrow passages for slime ambushes. Perfect for showcasing CQB’s strengths in indoor combat.
Second Floor: A grassland and forest battlefield. Make everything your own, craft traps as needed, and throw enemies into chaos.
Third Floor: The final defense line, where my room and the Dungeon Core are. Use it to corner enemies. Teach them that carelessness is their greatest foe.
I train the goblins and green slimes with every method I can think of.

INT and LUK only went up slightly, but the rest are insane. Even I think this is abnormal—did I overdo it?
Or maybe these two are just exceptionally boosted? Let’s check a regular soldier goblin…

Pfft!? Oh, right, sergeants are often veterans who handle training, aren’t they?
