- Chapter 62: Sister Attacked
The dull-colored blade cut through the flesh of the orc before me.
The sword infused with aura easily severed the orc’s tough skin and muscle. Fresh red blood splattered before my eyes, and the orc’s scream reached my ears.
Even though they had been glaring at us with such killing intent just moments ago, once the orcs found themselves on the receiving end of injury, they made no attempt to hide their anguished expressions.
It’s unfair, isn’t it? The ones being attacked always look pitiful. It makes you want to show a little mercy.
But I didn’t hold back. I sliced through the neck of an orc turning its back to flee, and killed the orc that stepped forward to protect its companions.
There was no intention of coexistence between humans and monsters. One side was always destined to be killed.
Even humans fight among themselves—there was no way humans and monsters of different species could get along.
You often heard people loudly proclaim that some criminals could be rehabilitated, but I didn’t think that’s correct.
Sure, they might be rehabilitated. There were probably those who killed people for unavoidable reasons.
But that was not the point.
In my mind, those who commit crimes were all equally guilty. It was not a question of whether they could be rehabilitated. Rather than finding them and rehabilitating them, it’s faster and more certain to cut them all down equally.
Ninety percent of people couldn’t be rehabilitated. It was the same principle.
I’ve been rambling in my thoughts for a while, but the point was: rather than searching for kind-hearted monsters, it was safer and faster to exterminate monsters altogether.
Which would you prefer: being told later “that monster might have been gentle” or being told “many people died because you let that monster go”?
Do you help an unknown monster to satisfy yourself, or do you help unknown members of your own species for peace of mind?
In the end, that’s what things come down to.
That’s why I basically showed no mercy to criminals and monsters. If they were hostile, I would kill them for certain.
It didn’t matter if they had companions, lovers, or families behind them. I killed them. If I don’t, my life or the lives of people I know will be threatened.
“Good work, Luka.”
With a squishing sound, Norn-nee-san said this while crushing an orc’s head with one hand.
Since there were quite a few enemies, several orcs had attacked Nee-san. The result was as you can see. Norn-nee-san killed all the orcs without even drawing a weapon.
“Good work to you too, Norn-nee-san. Sorry for making you handle some of them.”
“Not at all. Watching Luka’s gallant figure with my own eyes got me quite excited. Fufu. You’ve become so strong… your movements are refined too.”
“Not as much as you, Norn-nee-san. I’m still rough around the edges.”
“If anything, it’s the opposite.”
Nee-san casually tossed aside the orc with the crushed head, then took out a handkerchief from her breast pocket and began wiping herself clean.
“My style is to crush opponents with brute force. Compared to that, Luka’s swordsmanship is honest yet flexible. I know that facing someone like Luka would be the most troublesome type of opponent.”
“You think so?”
“I do. However, no matter how many there are, it’s not interesting when they’re all just small fry… From the looks of it, are special variant orcs too much to hope for?”
“That’s disappointing. I wanted to see Norn-nee-san fight for once.”
The last time I saw her was during the mock battle with Cornelia and the others. That was just child’s play.
I had been looking forward to seeing what kind of tactics and power Norn-nee-san would use to overwhelm monsters.
But when push came to shove, they were all small fry. At this rate, it would end boringly.
“! It seems… Luka’s wish might come true.”
“Good timing.”
Nee-san glanced toward the bushes ahead. I shifted my gaze in that direction as well.
Both Norn-nee-san and I detected a large presence approaching us. It was clearly different from the orcs we’d faced so far—the aura of a strong opponent was emanating from it.
“Luka, is it alright if I handle this one? It’s fine if you want to take it instead.”
“No, I just defeated a dragon recently, so I’ll let Nee-san have this one. Though I’d like the next one if there is one.”
“Understood. Then, let me show Luka something cool for the first time in a while.”
Saying this, Norn-nee-san stepped several paces forward. In turn, I took several steps back.
Then, parting the bushes, a single orc revealed itself. As Norn-nee-san and I had expected, the orc that appeared was no ordinary orc.
It was taller than a normal orc, with bulging muscles. Rather than an orc, its build was more like that of an ogre.
It gripped the sword in its hand, lowering its reddish-black discolored body slightly. I could clearly see the power building in its legs.
In contrast, Norn-nee-san stood perfectly still with a faint smile on her face. She was observing her opponent’s behavior.
Immediately after, the orc kicked off the ground.
A thunderous roar like an explosion echoed, and the ground shattered violently. Just as I recognized that this was indeed a special variant and not a normal orc, the orc had already closed in right in front of Norn-nee-san.
Drawing its arm back with full force, it delivered a sharp thrust that cut through the air.
That strike hit squarely into the completely defenseless abdomen of Norn-nee-san.
