The Most Beautiful Girl in School Has Become a Mother - Chapter 52
It was around the time the three of us finished our meal.
I was doing the dishes while listening to the conversation between Miori and Shuri.
I don’t intend to eavesdrop. It’s just that listening to their conversations has been a source of comfort for me lately.
“Hey, Shuri-chan, is there anything you want from this?”
Miori is displaying something on her smartphone screen.
“Wow! So many teddy bears! Are these Mom’s?”
Shuri lets out a voice of emotion.
“Yeah, that’s right? There are a lot, right? I’ve liked collecting stuffed animals since I was little.”
It seems that Miori is showing her stuffed animal collection to Shuri.
What is that? I want to see it. Did Miori like collecting stuffed animals? That’s so girly and cute, I couldn’t help but smile.
“Among these, feel free to take whichever you like if you want any of them.”
“Eh, they’re all cute.”
The sight of the two of them huddled together, peering into a smartphone, looked like nothing but a parent and child. Just watching them like this made me feel like a successful person in life, which was quite strange.
“Let me see it too.”
After finishing the dishes, when I tried to peek from behind, Miori quickly hid the screen.
It’s an incredibly hurtful reaction on my part.
“No, no way.”
“Yeah… why is that?”
“Because this is my room. It’s embarrassing…”
“Why is Shuri fine but I’m not?”
I just can’t accept it somehow.
I mean, I really want to see Miori’s room.
“I-if we’re talking about that, I’ve never seen Isaki-kun’s room either!”
“Then, shall we see it?”
In response to my answer, Miori let out a confused “Huh?!”
“Aren’t you embarrassed?”
“Hmm, not really. I don’t use it much anyway.”
There’s nothing particularly troublesome to be seen, and since I hardly even use it, there’s nothing to worry about being seen.
The bookshelf only has manga and reference books, and I haven’t used the bed in my room for a long time. I occasionally use it for a quick nap, but recently, I haven’t had the opportunity to do so.
Things that would be troublesome if seen are mostly contained within my smartphone (and I usually view them on a secret page), so I’m at ease.
“I-I wish you would be a bit more bashful there…”
If I were living in a room as an ordinary high school student, it might have been a bit embarrassing.
However, since the room has no purpose other than self-study, there’s nothing embarrassing about showing it. This can be said to be a result of the situation I have been forced into.
Miori let out a small sigh and turned her smartphone screen towards me so I could see it too.
There was a simple light pink bed, and at the head of the bed, stuffed animals were in a state of disarray. I could understand why Shuri said, “So many!” There were indeed a lot of stuffed animals in that photo.
“…Isn’t it impossible to turn over on this?”
“I don’t even toss and turn. I have a good sleeping posture.”
For some reason, Miori seemed a bit sulky, but it was probably because she was embarrassed. It was somehow childish and cute.
“Shuri, do you want any of these? Mom said she would give them to you.”
“Hmm…”
While Shuri taps the screen to zoom in (it’s amazing how this generation of kids naturally learns to handle smartphones and tablets), she carefully examines each one.
We also have a tablet for kids at home, and we just give it to them as it is. Of course, the payment is covered by my dad.
“This!”
After a while of pondering, the stuffed bears that Shuri chose were a pair, one white and one black.
“Yeah, sure. Then, next time I’ll bring both of them.”
When Miori said that, Shuri shook her head and pointed at the black bear.
“This side only.”
“Is the black one enough?”
“Yeah. I want to match with Mom.”
In response to Miori’s question, Shuri said with a beaming smile.
At those words, Miori froze for a moment. It was probably a proposal she hadn’t expected either.
Did she digest and understand the words Shuri said? Miori’s face gradually brightened. It was soft and joyful, as if her smile might spill over.
“Yeah… let’s match with mom. From now on, let’s match a lot, okay?”
“Yeah! Matching with Mom!”
Perhaps overwhelmed with joy at Shuri’s response, Miori hugged Shuri tightly.
The smile she showed at that time seemed just like a mother’s. Shuri also hugged Miori happily.
──I’ve never been told that matching is good, though.
Watching those two, I let out a small sigh.
Jealousy towards “Mom” would vanish completely upon seeing this scene. It was strange how I even thought it was okay not to win against Miori.
Surely, there are only a few high school students who can experience this feeling, just like us.
Here too, I felt that the “memories just for us” that Miori mentioned were piling up, and it made me somehow happy.
