Power of the Divine Sword
After gathering information, we headed further north to the inn town.
Since we were walking down the street, we didn’t have to worry about running into any bandits.
This is because the streets are regularly patrolled by the Protectorate and security is ensured.
Therefore, there are rarely any foolish bandits who try to misbehave on the streets.
However, there are rare cases such as Kobolds that appear on the streets and cause trouble.
They’re called cephalopods and speak of the devil; we just encountered a bunch of them.
It’s common for Kobolds to come down from the mountains and attack farm animals, but it’s rare for them to come to the streets.
The Kobolds are rampaging, they are armed with rusty daggers and stone weapons.
I don’t know if it was fortunate or unfortunate for me, but it looked like a battle with them is unavoidable.
At first, I thought I would avoid a useless battle, but then I came to an idea and decided to fight them.
The idea is–
“I want to test the sharpness of this divine sword.”
That’s what the idea was.
I know that this divine sword is the Estark family’s legacy
She has the personality of a chatty girl, and it had been confirmed that the only person that can use her in the past few centuries is me.
The problem was the sharpness of this divine sword.
She said that no one had been able to handle her for the past several hundred years. In other words, she had been away from actual combat for the past several hundred years.
I am the type of person who would trust a small dagger that had been proven in actual combat more than a legendary holy sword that has been away from combat for several hundred years.
The divine sword bent its handle when I spoke honestly about her.
“Buh-buh. You don’t trust me, do you?
“Yes, to put it bluntly”
“It’s awful. You trust that little dagger more than me. “
“I’ve heard that the Duke of Tyrealm, a relative of House Estark, prefers a woman who has given birth to several children. They’re more likely to give birth to strong children.”
I replied abstractly, but my words set Tyrfing on fire.
“Licht is good at firing up the sword. That’s good. Let’s show them how serious we are.”
As she said this, the sword glowed dully.
I was expecting him to wipe out the Kobolds with a special move that only a divine sword can do, but it seems that things don’t work out that way.
“Sorry, I’ve been asleep for hundreds of years and I forgot how to use my special moves.”
“I thought so. But you’re not losing your edge, are you?”
“I’m sure you’ll be fine. I’ve been told that I’m a maintenance-free divine sword, after all.”
“Thank God.”
As I said this, she sliced through the Kobold that jumped at me with a single stroke.
Amazing!
“…”
For a moment, I was at a loss for words because the sharpness of the sword was incredible. There are many incredible swords of lying around in the Estark family, but this might be the first time I’ve ever held a sword as sharp as this one.
It was a different kind of sharpness, a combination of the sharpness of a razor and the strength of a machete.
It’s not easy to get used to, and it’s a bit bewildering, but by the time I’m slashing through the third Kobold’s stone tools, I learned how to wield the sword.
“…I see, if you cut at this angle, you can even cut through a stone. It’s just like the legend says.”
Tyrfing can “slice through rock and iron like cloth”, the legend seems to be true. It seems that I can even cut through iron without much training.
These Kobolds are no match for us.
There was a time when I trained swordsmanship with the (self-proclaimed) best swordsman in the world from the West. I never missed a single training from him.
I was in danger of being assassinated by my own family if I showed my magical talents, so I had to devote myself to practice my swordsmanship.
I couldn’t practice my magic in public, so instead I wielded my sword like an idiot, and it actually paid off.
I took down the first Kobold with a single strike, and then impaled the second one after several strikes. I destroyed the third Kobold’s stone axe and made him flee, and sliced the fourth one through his upper body and both arms.
In no time, four Kobolds were slain. The remaining Kobolds lost their will to fight and fell on their knees. They threw down their weapons, got on all fours, and fled.
I am truly a bad person, but when Tyrfing saw me, she said
“Oh, wow! Wow! My new master is super strong!”
She was overwhelmed with tears of joy.
“I don’t want to be praised for getting rid of kobolds.”
I argued with her.
“My first owner, Bramus, was strong too, but it took him two minutes and forty-two seconds to get rid of a pack of ten Kobolds. But Licht did it in two minutes and thirty seconds. That’s a new record.”
She took the effort to count the time. What a diligent divine sword. I wiped the Kobold’s blood from my sword and sheathed it.
Tyrfing was very excited, but there was one thing I hadn’t told her, I had cut corners in the fight earlier.
In fact, I could have settled the battle within a minute if he had really tried.
However, I knew that if I told her about it, she would start talking even more, so I kept quiet.
I don’t like noisy people.
When you think about it, traveling with this sword is a painful experience in a way, but judging from the sharpness of the blade earlier, you should be able to overlook that much of a flaw.
With that thought in mind, I picked up my luggage from the ground and continued my journey.
