Chapter 16: Suspicious

[Alice’s POV]

“Good work, Alice. How did it go?”

After I finished speaking to them, Liz, with her pale pink hair fluttering, came up to ask me.

“Yeah, it seems he didn’t go on the orc subjugation yesterday.”

“Is that so?”

Liz looked a bit disappointed. Her appearance made her seem almost childlike.

“But, there were several points that I found suspicious.”

“Suspicious?”

“Yeah, first, he got flustered when I asked about the man in the mask.”

That was the first suspicious point.

“Then, when I brought up the man in the mask again, he was silent for a bit, as if he was thinking about something. But when another man arrived, he looked as relieved as if a savior had come.”

“That does sound suspicious.”

Carla also covered her mouth, looking dubious.

“And when I was coming here, I saw him briefly and for some reason, he sighed in relief.”

“…Yeah, that definitely sounds suspicious.”

“I think so too, he seems suspicious.”

After discussing everything, everyone seemed to agree he appeared suspicious. It’s likely that he’s lying.

“I think it might be good to keep in touch with him a little more. What does everyone think?”

Everyone agreed. Good, that settles it.

“By the way, his name is Glenn, right?”

I think that’s what the other guy called him earlier.

He took a quest, so let’s ask the person from earlier.

“Hey, what was the quest that guy earlier took on?”

I decided to ask the man who was with him earlier what quest he had. 

His name is Spinner, I think?

“Uh? Oh, it was the one for collecting herbs.”

“Right, and his name is Glenn, correct?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

It seems I was right.

“So, just one last thing… he really went on the harpy subjugation yesterday?”

I decided to ask again with a smile, just to be sure.

“Y-yeah, it’s true.”

“…”

Still suspicious.

“Sorry for asking so many times. Thank you.”

I then went back to where my party members were.

“His name is indeed Glenn, and it looks like he went on a quest to gather herbs earlier.”

“Oh really, gathering herbs…”

“…You know, today we were only supposed to report to the guild and had nothing else planned.”

“So, I was thinking… what if we take on the same quest as him? What do you think?”

“I think that’s fine. We don’t really know what he’s like anyway.”

“I agree, it sounds good.”

“Yeah, I’d like to talk to him as well.”

“Let’s set off then. Fufu, it feels strange that all of us want to get to know this guy.”

Talking about it made me feel a bit warm inside.

“True, I wouldn’t have believed it a little while ago.”

“Yeah.”

“Shall we get going then!”

And so, we decided to follow him.

Spinner’s muttering wasn’t heard by anyone else.
