Chapter 17: Leisurely Herb Gathering
“Ahh, I’m already tired.”
Glenn, who has already gathered nearly half of the required herbs, is idly daydreaming.
It was a close call because of Spinner, but since Spinner also helped him get through it, he’ll let it slide. It feels a bit like setting something up only to solve it yourself.
“I guess I deserve a little treat today.”
Glenn has his own set of rules. One of them is that it’s okay to indulge in a little luxury when something big happens.
“Alright! With that decided, let’s quickly gather the herbs!”
And with that, he stands up and resumes gathering herbs.
・・・・・・・
[Glenn’s POV]
“Phew, that should complete the quest.”
After finishing the gathering, I put my hands on my hips and took a breather.
“It’s already past noon. It’s late, but maybe I should have lunch.”
But, hmm…
“It’s a bit awkward to eat here. Maybe I should move a bit.”
The weather is nice today. With such weather, I’d like to eat somewhere out of the direct sunlight. So, I decided to move to a more comfortable place to eat.
“This looks like a good spot.”
After walking a bit, I decided to eat near some shade under a tree.
“Today, I’ll go with this.”
I pull out my lunch from the magic bag.
The great thing about a magic bag is its large capacity and its ability to pause time for whatever’s inside, which means you can eat freshly made food anytime.
Well, it’s a bit pricey, though.
What I pulled out today were rice balls. I’m really glad this world has rice too.
Rice isn’t eaten much in this town, which is truly regrettable.
Rice has to be imported from other countries, so I have to order it, but I’ve bought a lot, so there shouldn’t be any problems for a while.
“Ahh, rice balls made with freshly cooked rice are the best!”
Today’s rice balls are simple: one with salmon and bonito flakes, and the others are more unique, one with meat and cheese, and another with leftover meat from yesterday.
If only I had miso soup, it would be unbeatable.
Rice with miso soup is just the best.
“Now, which one should I eat first?”
“Hey, weren’t you just at the guild?”
“Huh?”
As I’m deciding what to eat, I’m approached by the leader of the Moon’s Droplets, whom I met earlier at the guild.
And all the party members are here too.
…Hey, why are they here?
“Oh, hi there.”
For now, I make sure to greet them politely. It’s a hassle, and I’m hungry, so I decided not to worry about it. Worrying is just losing.
“It looks delicious.”
Oops, it seems my lunch has caught someone’s eye. Liz is looking at it with her light blue eyes, clearly wanting some.
I’m hungry too, but I guess sharing one won’t hurt.
“Um, would you like one?”
“Really? Can I?”
“Well, only if you like it.”
“I’ll have one. Thanks.”
And Liz picked up the classic salmon rice ball. Seriously, why did they come here? To extort a new kind of tribute? Did they come to mooch off my lunch?
Well, there are only three left now, but three should be enough.
“”…””
“…”
It’s really hard to eat when everyone’s looking like that.
Wait, no way…
“If you’d like, would the rest of you like to have some too?”
“Is that okay?”
“Only if you’d like.”
Honestly, I didn’t want to offer. But if I leave a bad impression here, it might make it hard to live in this town.
So, I just said it as a formality. It would be great if they declined.
“Well, thank you then.”
“Thanks.”
“Thank you very much.”
“…”
Everyone ended up taking a rice ball. It seems the Japanese virtue of modesty doesn’t quite translate in this other world.
