Chapter 15: Desperate Excuse
“…”
This is bad, this is really bad!
What should I do? I need to think of an excuse, something, anything! I’m keeping quiet for now, but I’m reaching my limit. The woman smiling in front of me is scary.
Darn it, Spinner! Why did he have to talk so loud back there! I take back what I said, he’s not a good guy at all!
For now, I blamed Spinner in my mind, and then,
“Hey, Glenn, what are you doing? What about your quest?”
There came Spinner, the very guy who put me in this situation, strolling along. I thought about what to do with him for a moment but then stopped.
Because it was like a duck bringing its own leeks.
“Ohh! Isn’t that Spinner!”
I ran over to Spinner and put my arm around his shoulder.
“Man, yesterday was tough, wasn’t it? The harpy subjugation we did together was hard, right?”
“Huh? No, you were just—Ouch!”
I pinched Spinner’s stomach as he was about to say something unnecessary.
“It was tough!! Right!!”
I pleaded with my eyes for him to play along. And it seemed to work.
“Ah, y-yeah. It was tough.”
Spinner played along. I then stopped putting my arm around him and went back to Alice.
“So, as I was saying, we were busy with the harpy subjugation yesterday, so we don’t know anything about any orc subjugation.”
I insisted with a smile that I didn’t know anything about such a quest.
“Eh? But I heard yesterday that you went to subdue orcs.”
Alice said this with a bit of confusion.
“That was a misunderstanding… Yes! By this guy! He must have mistaken me for someone else. Right? Right!!”
“Ah, y-yeah. It was a misunderstanding.”
I appealed with my eyes again. Spinner was completely puzzled by what was happening.
“So, that’s the story. We don’t know such a person! Is that all for the discussion?”
“Uh, yeah. Sorry for stopping you.”
“No, no, it was great to talk to someone from a famous party.”
Then Alice headed back to her party members.
I let out a relieved sigh.
“Glenn. What was that all about?”
Spinner asked with a confused look.
“Well, you reaped what you sowed.”
“Eh…”
He looked dismayed when I said that. Well, it couldn’t be helped; that was the best I could come up with.
I guess I better not wear that outfit for a while.
After the commotion, I decided to go on a quest to collect herbs.
