Chapter 14: Big Trouble
“Taken down?”
“Yeah, but it wasn’t us who did it.”
“Then who did?”
I thought they glanced at me for a second but quickly turned back to the receptionist with a troubled look.
“It’s unclear. His face was hidden behind a white mask.”
“What?”
The receptionist looked surprised and turned to Alice. It’s definitely confusing when someone unknown has done the subjugation.
“But it’s true that it was slain. The carcass is in the Royal Mountains. I want someone from the guild staff to come and verify it.”
“Okay, I’ll arrange that right away.”
The guild staff hurried to get ready, probably to record everything. But it looks like the preparations will take some time.
“Well… I’m off on another quest.”
“Ah… be careful.”
Spinner looked worried as he watched me. He really is a good guy.
“Yeah, I’ll be careful.”
With that, I left the guild…
“Hey…”
“Huh?”
Just as I was about to leave, someone stopped me.
I hesitantly turned around and the very person who caused the earlier commotion was talking to me.
“Me…?”
“Yes, you.”
“…”
So it was me, huh? I looked around thinking maybe it was someone else, but apparently not.
“Um… what is it?”
I found myself speaking formally without realizing it. Did I accidentally do something wrong?
“Actually, we wanted to thank the person who was wearing the white mask yesterday.”
“Ah…”
Their way of speaking is a bit vague. What does this have to do with me?
“That person in the white mask mentioned something. He needed an orc for a quest.”
“…”
I just kept quiet and listened. The beautiful silver-haired person in front of me smiling also feels intimidating. This feels really bad.
“I happened to overhear you talking to a guy, you were hunting orcs yesterday, right?”
“…”
What? Did I really slip up? What was I thinking yesterday?
“Do you know anything about it?”
“…”
I just want to go home.
