Chapter 10: Gratitude

“Ah, it’s really okay.”

I didn’t help just to be thanked. I just did what I wanted to do. Leaving them to die just didn’t sit right with me. That’s all.

“Um…”

“Hm? Is something wrong?”

“I just can’t accept not giving anything in return after you saved us!”

“No, really, it’s okay.”

“Carla is right. It doesn’t seem right to offer nothing to someone who saved our lives.”

“Yeah, she’s right.”

“I think so too.”

Huh? These girls really aren’t backing down. Hmm, what should I do?

As I was thinking, I noticed the body of an orc.

“Then, can I take that orc?”

“”What!?””

Yeah, how many times today have I seen that reaction?

“Orc…?”

“Yeah, I actually needed this one.”

Well, it was actually needed for a quest, so it’s a perfect way to return the favor. I get the orc, and they feel they’ve thanked me properly. 

It’s a win-win for both sides.

“Um… you don’t have to hold back, you know?”

Alice says that, but I actually needed it.

“What will you use it for?”

Liz asks, tilting her head. Is she really that curious?

“It was needed for a quest.”

I cut off the proof of subjugation part from the ravaged orc. There were no magic stones, but fortunately, the proof part was intact.

“Well, I’ve received your thanks, so I’m heading back.”

Saying that, I flew back home for a change of scenery. 

And on the way back, I realized something.

“Wait, did I say something unnecessary?”

…Oh well.

I thought about it for a while, but then decided it was too much trouble to remember.

“Girls… did you hear? He needed the orc for a quest.”

“I heard it clearly.”

“Yes, I heard it.”

“Got it.”

He felt relieved because he was wearing a mask, which apparently led him to say more than necessary.
