Chapter 09: Masterpiece
—Creaak.
There was a sound like a door opening, a sound that should not be heard in such a place.
Then, the space before me… opened. Inside were two weapons.
I took one of them out.
…This weapon was a pair of gauntlets. They were black and much too large to wear as they were.
It wasn’t a sword capable of slicing, nor was it like a mage’s staff that could amplify magical power.
I fitted the weapon onto both arms, and the gauntlets shrank to match the size of my arms.
And then, its true value emerged when I channeled magic into it. The power varied with the amount of magic I poured into it, but for this guy with poison, it was perfect.
The two weapons in that space were my finest creations.
I hesitate to use these gauntlets often because it has a significant impact on the surroundings. The first time I swung it with all my might, it left traces of destruction as if a storm had passed.
So, I named it…
“…Stormbreaker.”
—Shine!
The gauntlets hummed as I infused them with magic, wrapping my arms in wind.
It seemed the dragon in front of me understood the power of this weapon.
With a fearful expression, it spread its wings and soared into the sky, attempting to flee.
“No way I’m letting you escape…”
I leaped in front of the dragon and punched its cheek.
The force of my punch and the blast of wind from the Stormbreaker struck the dragon simultaneously.
The pressure from the wind and the force of the punch blew the dragon’s head off. The headless dragon slowly fell to the ground.
“Phew…”
I exhaled and approached the headless dragon to confirm it was dead.
I had controlled its output enough that only its head was blown off.
“It’s dead…”
[Recede]
—Thud.
With a loud sound, the door closed. The gauntlets I had on my hands had disappeared without notice.
Since creatures with strong life forces can still move without their heads, it’s important to check.
I approached to ensure that the four others hadn’t been hit by Stormbreaker’s wind pressure.
“Thank God! They’re all safe…”
As I went to check on the four, they looked at me with wide-eyed expressions.
How many times have I seen that expression today?
“Um… thank you, we owe our lives to you.”
“Honestly, I can’t believe what happened right before our eyes, but thank you anyway.”
“Um… we were saved. Thank you.”
“…Thank you.”
All four of them thanked me. I just wish they would stop looking at me like I’m a suspect. After all, I did save them.
