Chapter 06: Green Dragon and ???
The green dragon was covered in wounds and likely had little strength left. It was barely managing to stand.
“Fuh…”
I took a deep breath to focus on the enemy in front of me. None of us were letting our guard down; we knew that a cornered creature could do anything.
[SHUUUUUUUUUU]
The green dragon’s mouth began glowing red. It was about to unleash a fiery breath to incinerate its foes in one fell swoop.
We tried to dodge, expecting the breath to hit us, but no attack came…
“”Huh?””
Eh?”
“…”
Stella, Carla, and I made silly noises. Liz was too shocked to even make a sound…
The green dragon was dead…
No, more precisely, it had been killed…
By another dragon right in front of us.
At the feet of the new dragon lay the body of the green dragon.
Dragons are usually classified as green, red, or blue.
However, dragons that have lived through ages or monsters that have grown too powerful are given “individual names,” and hunting them becomes much more difficult.
This dragon was clad in blue scales all over its body. Its wings looked like they could function as legs, not just for flying. It had two large fangs protruding from its mouth, capable of piercing through anything.
Its head stretched sideways and curved upwards, crowned with blue horns.
I knew this dragon.
A nomadic dragon, it roamed across the world, never staying in one place.
[Estimated Rank 10]
[The Dragon that Devours Dragons]
“The Mad Azure Dragon…”
I’ve heard its physical abilities are comparable to those of a red dragon. However, its most distinctive feature is the “poison” it produces inside its body.
This poison is so potent that it can kill a normal human within about 30 minutes, and there are no antidotes or specific remedies available.
In other words, once poisoned, survival is almost impossible.
“Fuh… this is really the worst.”
The dragon was quietly observing us, sizing us up as if assessing our value…
And we were recognized…
Recognized as its new prey.
“!?”
Instinctively, we aimed our weapons, but our instincts were screaming that we couldn’t win.
Run… it seemed to say.
But the dragon before us wouldn’t allow us to flee. We were certain that if we turned our backs, we would be killed.
Fighting was the only option left.
Everyone understood this, and that’s why they prepared for a counterattack.
However, the faces of everyone were pale, influenced by both the battle with the green dragon and the presence of this new dragon.
—Drip
As a bead of sweat fell, everyone launched their attacks at once.
“Haaaa!”
“Ice Needle!”
“Enchant, Status UP!”
Stella and I moved forward to target its legs and reduce its mobility. Carla aimed at its wings with a fast-acting blade of ice. Liz cast a spell that significantly increased everyone’s abilities for a short time, consuming a large amount of magical power.
—Clang
But it was pointless. Neither my sword, Stella’s dagger, nor Carla’s magic left a single scratch.
“Guh!?”
Given how tough the green dragon was, it was expected.
[…]
However, the dragon in front of us did nothing. It just watched us, which was eerily unsettling. That was frightening in itself.
If it breathed its breath or we got a scratch, we’d be poisoned. One mistake could be fatal, so we had to move cautiously.
“Ahm! Ahm! Ahm!”
“Cough! Cough! Cough!”
Suddenly, Carla and Stella started coughing violently.
I tried to look at them, but Liz and I also began coughing and couldn’t turn to see them.
“Wha!?”
When I coughed, there was blood mixed in it.
My thoughts froze at this inexplicable phenomenon.
