Chapter 26:Zayn, Determined to Get His Revenge

While carrying two of his party members, Zayn dashed into a deserted alley and set them down before leaning against the wall himself. 

“Darn it… Not just Liam, but two S-rank adventurers as well…?”

Although S-rank adventurers were known for their exceptional skills, but most of them had eccentric personalities. S-rank adventurers typically operated solo and yet, for some reason, two S-rank adventurers were gathering under Liam’s team. Liam himself possessed strength equivalent to that of an S-rank adventurer. Which meant, if Zayn were to confront Liam in the future, he would be facing three S-rank adventurers all at once.

“I wanted to get revenge on those bastards for putting us through that pain and shame, but… The difference in power between us is too great…”

Of course, Zayn had zero intention of keeping his promise to Liam. However, he was aware that he couldn’t defeat Liam’s group right now. In terms of strength, Zayn’s group was much weaker than Liam’s group. Hence why, although it pained him to do so, but he had to keep his promise to Liam if he wanted to stay alive. 

“Ouch, ouch…”

“…Wait, where are we?”

While he was deep in thought, his two party members finally woke up. Zayn then explained the situation to them. 

“So we’re in an alley in the Elf Kingdom and we retreated because the battle was not in our favor…”

“I see…”

“Well, we didn’t know there would be a S-rank adventurer with Liam. Her appearance really caught us off guard, but now that we know there is one S-rank adventurer with him, we just need to come up with a better plan to beat Liam to pulp! Of course, we need to think of a way to deal with that S-rank adventurer too!”

“Yeah~”

“Hm…?”

Zayn was confused why the two of them didn’t feel the same despair as him given the overwhelming difference in power between his group and Liam’s group. His party members were instead thinking of their next move. It turned out, the two of them didn’t know that there was another S-rank adventurer with Liam. Indeed. The two of them had been knocked out by Lydia Astoria. Hence why they didn’t know just how big the gap between their strengths.

“Yeah. That’s why, although it pains me do admit it myself, but we have to─”

Just when Zayn was about to tell his team to get away from Liam, he heard a voice calling out to him.

“Zayn-san! The time for us to destroy the giant tree is dawning near. What are you doing in a place like this?”

“..!!”

A suspicious-looking man in a tuxedo with a long hat came to him. The man was wearing a mysterious mask to cover his face. Zayn recalled the plan to destroy the giant tree. That plan had completely slipped his mind because of his humiliating defeat against Liam. He forgot the real purpose of his coming to the Elf Kingdom. His party was entrusted with the task to bring the Elf Kingdom to ruin. 

“…I know, but before that… There’s one thing I need to confirm first.”

“What is it?”

“If we destroy the giant tree, the Elf Kingdom will fall into ruin, right? You see, I have a bone to pick against a certain elf. I want to get revenge on her.”

Although Zayn was annoyed at Liam, but the person that truly frustrated him the most was the red-haired elf, the Great Mage. She was the one who had subjected Zayn to despicable torture. Upon hearing Zayn’s question, the man in the mask nodded. Zayn could see the smirk formed in the man’s face through the mask just from the man’s voice alone. 

“Of course. In fact, there’s nothing better than destroying the giant tree if you want to get your revenge against the elves.”

“I see… Do you know how many guards are stationed around the giant tree?”

“There are only a few elves standing guard near the giant tree… Well, even if reinforcements arrive, we can kill them all with the monsters we control. All we need to do is get close to the giant tree first. We can handle the rest of the problems later.”

Only the demon race could command over monsters. Zayn had already suspected that the masked man was a demon when he first heard about the plan to destroy the Elf Kingdom. Hence why he didn’t dwell on that fact. However, something else caught Zayn’s attention. This suspicious fact piqued the need to ask the question outright.

“How weird… If the giant tree is that important to the elves, then why is there only minimal security for the giant tree?”

“Well, the giant tree is supposed to have the power to repel foreign entities. The few elves stationed to guard the giant tree is nothing but a formality. However, the barrier surrounding the giant tree is not functioning properly because the giant tree is not in its best state. But the authorities are still keeping the status quo. They haven’t relayed this information to the general public yet to avoid causing panic.”

“I see… So basically they’re trying to pretend nothing is out of the ordinary… Alright. We will head there right away.”

“Yes. We’ll be waiting for you, Zayn-san.”

With that, the masked man vanished from the deserted alley. 

“Listen up, everyone! Just like what you heard, we will destroy the Elf Kingdom! This will serve as our revenge against that damned elf mage too!”

Though Zayn’s heart was in shambles due to the difference in strength between his group and Liam’s, but as the leader of his group, Zayn had to maintain his dignity. He declared this confidently to encourage his party members. 

“Yeah!!”

“Right on!!”

There were only a few elves guarding the giant tree. The chance of Liam and the others getting near the giant tree was slim. After all, Zayn didn’t see the reason why Liam and his groups would have the need to go to the giant tree specifically. Hence why, Zayn was confident he could destroy the giant tree and annihilate the Elf Kingdom in turn since he wouldn’t encounter Liam and those two S-rank adventurers. 

“Hehehe.. I can’t wait to see the face of that shitty girl after she realizes she has lost her homeland..! Hahaha!!”

Zayn and the rest of his groups were back to their confident self. They were truly convinced that they wouldn’t need to fight Liam and the two S-rank adventurers while they destroyed the giant tree.
