Chapter 25: Liam, Believing

“E-Enough.. Forgive me already…”

Zayn-san, who had been attacked and healed by Meria-san so any times to the point I had lost count, was restored to full health again by recovery magic. However, his mental state was in shambles. He begged for forgiveness from Meria-san. His voice was so feeble. I had never seen him this weak before.

“Hmm~ I wonder~”

Meria-san showed no sign of changing her mind. Seeing this, Zayn-san turned pale and quickly turned his attention to me. 

“He-Hey… Liam, I was wrong. Could you forgive me now? I will take back what I said about your friends! I-I will apologize for attacking you too!”

“…Will you promise me that you won’t do it again?”

“Ye-Yeah! I promise! I won’t ever insult you or your friends again! I won’t try to harm you again either!!”

Meria-san, who was listening to Zayn-san’s plea next to me, opened her mouth and said. 

“Is that true?~ I don’t know~ It sounds like you’re only saying that because you’re trying to save your ass now.”

“I-It’s true! Li-Liam! You believe in me, right??”

“…”

Although only Zayn-san knew for sure if he really meant those words or not, but I thought Zayn-san had suffered enough. More importantly, I wanted to believe in Zayn-san. No matter what, I used to be in his party. 

“I understand. I trust you, Zayn-san.”

“Liam..!!”

“Huhhh?~ Liam-kun, are you sure?”

“Yes. I’ve decided to believe in Zayn-san. However, if he ever betrayed my trust then… When that time comes, I will stop at nothing to defeat Zayn-san.”

When I said that, silence ensued between us. No one said anything for a moment before Meria-san suddenly approached me. Her face was so bright, a stark contrast to Zayn-san who looked really stiff. 

“Liam-kun! Your voice just now… That cold voice of yours and your expression… Ahh! Everything sent shivers down my spine! Geez! How could you hide that side of yours all this time?!”

“H-Huh?! I-I’m not hiding anything in particular though…?!”

“Is that so?~ Or… Maybe you’re still hiding a side of you that we don’t know? For example…”

Meria-san leaned down to match my height and whispered sweetly into my ear.

“The face you make when you’re feeling good…”

“-?! I-I’m not hiding anything of that nature! Definitely not!”

Flustered, I exclaimed loudly while trying to create some distance between us. On the other side, Meria-san only chuckled softly and smiled again. 

“Is that so? In that case, maybe I should help you to explore a side of you that you don’t know yet?”

“N-N-N-No thank you!”

While Meria-san and I were talking, Zayn-san, who had been kneeling near us, stood up. His face looked somewhat twisted as he ran off toward Bella-san and the other. He carried both of them with him. Now that her opponent had been taken away by Zayn-san, Lydia-san then came approaching us.

“I can see the two of you have finished with your discussion. I couldn’t hear what you two were talking about since I was busy watching over those two who were knocked out cold, but… It’s no wonder that person lost the will to fight after seeing what you did.”

“Thank you for the praise~”

“I’m not praising you… However, considering those individuals had attempted to verbally abuse and harm Liam-san physically, I do believe those punishments were in order. I don’t think you were overexaggerating it. Not at all. So… I guess all’s well that ends well.”

Many things happened in between, but in conclusion, my brawl with Zayn-san and the others had been resolved without any issue. Just like what Lydia-san said, all’s well that ends well. Afterward, we apologized to the people nearby for causing public disturbance. Meria-san easily restored the damaged plants to their original state, so the situation was concluded without any issue for the time being. 

“Now then. Liam-san, shall we head over to the giant tree as originally planned?”

“Yes! Let’s do that!”

“I’m already used to seeing the giant tree almost everyday, but I will come with you two too since we need to heal it. But you know~ Liam-kun, don’t you want to see something you’ve never seen before instead?~ The giant tree is not all that exciting, right?~”

“That’s not true! I’m still not used to seeing the giant tree. Everything in this country are really different from the human country, so I’m really excited! I can’t wait to see the giant tree up close!”

I looked up at the enormous giant tree, which was so big to the point it was visible from anywhere in the Central City Magistus when Meria-san said.

“Is that so? Well, Liam-kun~ I have something I want to see. I’m sure I can see this unknown thing I desperately want with Liam-kun’s help!”

“With my help…?”

“That’s right!”

I was feeling a bit down because of my encounter with Zayn-san and the others, but seeing the giant tree made me feel refreshed again. So if I could make Meria-san happy by helping her…

“Understood! I don’t know what it is that you want, but if I can help you then I will be sure to do anything in my power to help you!”

“Anything…?! You said anything, right?! Alright! Once we get back to the inn today, I will—”

But before Meria-san could finish speaking, Lydia-san cut her short. Lydia-san was glaring at Meria-san menacingly with her hand on the hilt of her sword at her waist. 

“Say one more word and I will cut you down.”

“Whaaat?~ But I haven’t said anything yet!”

“And you don’t need to say anything at all. I already imagine what you’re going to say.”

“Imagine? Oooh~ Tell me, what kind of things you’re imagining, Lydia-chan…?”

“I see. You’re itching to be cut down, huh?”

“Geez!~ Come on, Lydia-chan! You’re so leeeewd!~”

“…If you desire a quick death, speak and I will grant your wish. In fact, please take a seat over there. I will ensure it myself that your death will be swift and painless.”

“Qu-Quick death?! Lydia-san, I don’t really understand what’s going on now, but please calm down!”

We were talking while heading toward the giant tree. Talking like this felt so right. It had become a part of our daily life. I hoped we would be able to heal the giant tree without facing any big issues. I hoped this peaceful life between all three of us could last forever.
