Chapter 16: Liam, Can You Say ‘Aaah’?

I arrived at the restaurant with Lydia-san and the red-haired elf also sat us nonchalantly. We formed a triangle at the table with me in the middle. We then placed our orders and then, I tried to come up with a topic to talk about.
“…Come to think of it, Great Mage-sama, what’s your name?”
I asked while we were waiting for our food. It felt strange to still not know her name after we talked so much. Not to mention, we were going to have a meal together too. The red-haired elf gave me a small smile before she answered.
“It’s Esmeria, but if it’s you, Liam-kun, then you can call me Meria if you’d like.”
Me? Why me? I wasn’t sure why she specifically said I could just call her Meria, but if Esmeria-san wanted me to call her Meria, then so be it.
“Okay, Meria-san.”
“Ugh…?! Hearing Liam-kun calls my name… Ugh! My heart just skipped a beat!”
“Wha-What’s wrong, Meria-san?!”
I asked, panicking, but Meria-san only gave me a small laugh. Then, Lydia-san said.
“But still, I was really surprised, Liam-san. Just like what you said, although we did try to hold our power back at the very last moment, but the fact still remains. You were able to take both of our attacks without getting hurt. No matter what, the two of us are S-rank adventurers. No ordinary human can withstand being hit by our attack directly like you did.”
“Tha-That’s only because Lydia-san and Meria-san are incredibly good at controlling your magic power! That was why just a split second was enough to ensure the attack was weakened enough not to hurt me!”
I tried my best to explain that the reason I still remained unscathed was due to their impressive magic control, not me. But then, Meria-san quipped.
“Nope~ Liam-kun, your magic power is really incredible, you know?~ But still, to be able to take on the attacks of two S-rank adventurers and remain unscathed… Ah~ Your magic power is so wonderful indeed!~”
“Tha-That’s not true!”
I quickly shook my head, firmly denying her words. I was really adamant because I didn’t want them to misunderstand. It would lead to more troubles in the future and I really didn’t want to give them any false hopes. Nonetheless, no matter how hard I tried to deny it, Meria-san continued on.
“No, you are strong. It makes me wonder just how strong your barrier is… I mean, maybe Liam-kun’s is ‘strong’ in other aspect too, especially in—”
“If you dare to utter such crude words in front of Liam-san… At the dining table to the boot…! I will sever your head right here and there!”
“Se-Sever her head?!”
I couldn’t understand why Lydia-san said something so extreme out of nowhere, but Meria-san didn’t seem troubled by Lydia-san’s sudden outburst.
“Really?~ I think using those violent language during a meal is worse~”
“That’s because you—”
“Here are your orders. Enjoy!~”
Just when the tension was about to rise again, the server brought our meals to the table. Lydia-san and Meria-san quickly stopped bickering to let the staff place the dishes on the table.
“If you have anything else you need, please don’t hesitate to call me. Now, excuse me.”
The server said before leaving our table. I was worried that their conversation might turn for the worse again once the server had left, but..
“Wow! All of them look so delicious! Ah~ There’s just something about having tasty food placed right in front of you that really makes you feel so happy!~”
“…I can tell that they’re using high quality ingredients in their food. How wonderful. This meal is going to be enjoyable indeed.”
But it turned out my worries were unfounded. I felt deeply relieved. The three of us then began eating our meal and in the middle of our meal, Meria-san said.
“Liam-kun, this is really delicious. Would you like to try some?”
“Ma-May I? I would love to try it if I can.”
“Of course!”
“In that case, I will happil—”
“Here, say ‘aaah’…”
Before I could finish my sentence, Meria-san stabbed the meat with her fork and offered it to me, bringing the fork close to my mouth.
“…Huh?! I-I can eat it by myself though?”
“I’m sure you can, but I just want to feed it to you! Come on, say aaah, can you say aaah?”
“Umm… We-Well….”
I hesitated, not sure what to do when Meria-san said in a louder voice than before.
“Come on! You’re a big boy now, so you can’t be picky anymore! Now, open wide! Aaaah!!”
“Wa-Wait a minute—”
“Can’t you see that you’re making Liam-san feel uncomfortable?! Cease that behavior at once!”
“Huuuh?~ Liam-kun is just shy. That’s all~”
“No. He’s clearly troubled by your foolish behavior. Now, please drop it. You should know better.”
“I don’t know~ I don’t know any better, so I’m not going to stop~”
“…!!”
In the end, we somehow managed to finish eating our meal relatively peacefully, but the tension between the two of them remained. In fact, it seemed the tension was becoming worse. The two of them didn’t seem to get any closer even after having a meal together.
Once we left the restaurant, Lydia-san nonchalantly grabbed my arm and moved at a faster pace to leave Meria-san ar behind. She brought me all the way back to our inn and practically pushed me into our room. Then, Lydia-san gazed straight into my eyes.
