Chapter 5: Eyes Full of Envy

“Tsumugu! Wake up!”

“…Nee-san?”

I slowly opened my eyes after being woken up by Nee-san. She didn’t always wake me up in the morning, but every now and then, Nee-san would wake me up like this.

“Breakfast is almost ready, so I came to wake you today.”

“Ah, thanks… That aside—”

What I was about to say was something I always said whenever Nee-san woke me up. I spoke to her while objectively observing the current situation.

“I always say this, but why do you always have to lean over me like that when you wake me up?”

Thanks to that, her face was really close, and her body… Especially her chest. Her chest was practically pressing up against me. Even if I didn’t harbor any lustful thoughts toward my blood-related sister, the way she woke me up always gave me pause.

“If I don’t get this close, you won’t wake up, Tsumugu.”

“Then just talk next to my ear. There’s really no need to cover me with your whole body.”

“Well, you know, it’s just a big sister’s instinct to want to see her little brother’s sleeping face?”

That’s a pretty broad definition of “sisterly instinct”… But in the end, she probably just does it because she wants to.

“Anyway, make sure you get up properly and come eat right away, okay?”

“Got it.”

When I responded, Nee-san cheerfully said, “I’ll be waiting!” and left the room. After that, I ate breakfast with her, and while we were walking to school together, I remembered something I had forgotten to tell her.

“About what we talked about yesterday… If you have a moment during break time today, could you come to my classroom? Hasumi said she wanted to properly introduce herself to you.”

“Really!? Then I’ll head over as soon as the first period’s break starts!”

And just like that, once we arrived at school, the first class flew by, and Nee-san walked into our classroom and came straight over to me. Because of how she looked, she attracted a lot of attention.

“I almost never get to see Tsumugu at school, so I’m super happy to see you here~! Tsumugu, did you understand the first period class? If there’s anything you didn’t get, you can always ask your Onee-chan────”

She was speaking rapidly, but she cut herself off the moment she noticed Hasumi standing next to me. Hasumi didn’t seem fazed by Nee-san’s sudden stop and greeted her politely.

“Tsunagi’s Onee-san, it’s nice to see you again after yesterday.”

“Sorry you had to see me so flustered yesterday. I came today not only to get introduced to Sumire-chan, but also to thank you… It sounds like you’ve been looking out for Tsumugu, and I really appreciate it.”

“Not at all, if anything, I’m the one who… Um… In any case, it’s nothing you need to worry about.”

Hasumi started to say something but seemed to reconsider and chose not to say it after all… Though I thought I saw her ears turn red for just a moment.

“I was really surprised to find out Tsumugu had such a cute girl as a friend.”

“You’re really beautiful too, Onee-san. I was surprised by how beautiful you were when I first saw you in person.”

“Huh, I’m beautiful? Really!? You’re making me blush~”

Since we’re siblings, I can’t completely get rid of my bias when it comes to Nee-san, but if I try to see her objectively, then yes, she’s definitely a very beautiful woman.

“What about you, Tsumugu? Do you think I’m pretty?”

“Why are you asking me of all people!?”

“I want to know how you see me! So? What do you think?”

“Well, um… I do think you’re pretty.”

“R-Really!? Tsumugu thinks I’m pretty!?”

“Nee-san…! You’re being loud…!”

But it was like she didn’t even hear me—Nee-san was muttering to herself and blushing.

Yeah… I should probably avoid talking to her in the classroom from now on, just to be safe.

“I wish I could be like that with Tsunagi too… I’m kind of jealous of your Onee-san, Tsumugu…”

Hasumi seemed to have murmured something as well, but Nee-san’s mumbling was too loud for me to make out what she said.

“────Oh wow, look at the time! Second period’s about to start, so I’ll head back to my classroom now. Tsumugu, Sumire-chan, I will see you later!”

“…Yes, see you.”

“See you, Nee-san.”

Waving at us, Nee-san turned and walked off.

“…Tsunagi’s Onee-san is seriously beautiful.”

“Maybe so.”

“‘Maybe’? No, she definitely is. Though you two don’t look alike at all.”

“Sorry I don’t have refined looks like my sister.”

“Hey, no one said that. I think you’re good-looking too, Tsunagi.”

“Wha…!?”

“That reaction is kinda gross though.”

“Huh…!?”

“Just kidding. Don’t worry about it.”

“Wait, what part of that was the joke?”

“The whole thing was a joke.”

“Yeah, but how much of it was────”

While we were going back and forth like that, I happened to catch a glimpse of Nee-san’s gaze and looked in the direction she had gone… But she was already gone from the classroom.

Must’ve been my imagination then?

“I wish I could be like that with Tsumugu too… Sumire-chan, I’m so jealous of you…”

And then, the second period started right after, so I took my seat and focused on the lesson.
