Chapter 39: Their Past and Haruto’s Present
Abel and Isaac-san remained silent, their eyes downcast.
Neither of them appeared to be intoxicated, but their expressions seemed to conceal something deeper.
“I’m genuinely curious about your story, Abel and Isaac.”
I remarked, wearing a serious expression. At this, they finally looked up and offered a wry smile. Isaac, who is more petite, exchanged a resigned glance with Abel before the latter began to speak.
“As Miss Purple Maid astutely observed, we hail from nobility. Admittedly, we’re not from a renowned lineage but rather the sons of a minor viscount from the provinces.”
“I see…”
Initially, I had pegged these two as seasoned adventurers; it never occurred to me that they were the heirs to viscountcies.
“Could this be… a story of the exiled aritrocrats?”
“What are you implying?”
“Never mind.”
I recalled my time in Japan, where I had read countless tales about fallen aristocrats. I never thought I’d meet one in reality.
Snapping me out of my reverie, Isaac finally spoke.
“We may have lost our titles, but we still possess unique skills; he has Magic Amplification, and I have Magic Transfer. That’s why we chose the life of adventurers.”
“I see… that’s how it happened.”
It’s unfortunate to lose one’s status simply because one’s magic isn’t inherently offensive. I remember Agnes-sama once mentioned in a lecture that this kingdom has fewer magic users compared to other countries. Therefore, men with powerful, flashy magic are especially esteemed.
“Abel-sama and Isaac-sama are worthy of the title of Earl.”
“Absolutely! The tremendous magical power you infused into Haruto-sama saved us all!”
They both had been attentively listening to Abel and Isaac and now, their fists clenched in encouragement.
It seems I’ll have to share my thoughts with them as well.
“I, the Duke of Leinster, declare that Abel and Isaac are invaluable assets to the Kingdom of Laodecia. I’m immensely grateful for both of you. Had you not been exiled from your homes, we might never have met, nor could we have defended this country from Alan’s threats. Therefore, you shall regain the honor you’ve lost, and this time, I will help you!”
“You really…”
“Bro…”
Their eyes glisten as they fix their gaze on me.
“Abel-sama and Isaac-sama, you needn’t worry any longer.”
“Become Earls and boldly proclaim, ‘Take that!’ to those who scorned you!”
Our eyes meet, filled with a radiant light. They then ruffle their hair and announce,
“We’re grateful.”
“Let’s celebrate!”
The evening unfolds with joy, as we indulge in food and drinks to our heart’s content.
Our conversation ranges widely, punctuated by bouts of laughter and jokes, as we relish the unique atmosphere of these otherworldly festivities.
However, as the food and drink come to an end, they rise gracefully, wearing smiles.
“I enjoyed myself today, my friend.”
“Yes, it’s the first time I’ve shared such stories with anyone other than this man. Well then.”
They pivot and start walking away.
Will they leave like before? Will we be left in a nebulous friendship, unsure when we’ll cross paths again?
“No, wait!”
I rise and call out to them. Isaac approaches and places a leather bag in my hands.
“Bro. This bag contains treasures we’ve collected on our journeys. Please accept it.”
“??”
Isaac then turns and follows Abel.
We watch their retreating forms, our faces a mix of bewilderment and longing.
Why can’t I say what’s screaming inside me—Don’t go?
Frustration swells within me.
Abruptly, they raise their hands.
“We shall meet again, Lord Duke!”
“!!”
And just like that, they are distant figures, receding from our sight.

A week later, Abel and Isaac were summoned to the royal palace and stood before His Majesty, the King Bern.
The King generously conferred upon them the title of Earl, granted them a segment of the royal lands, and provided a substantial financial reward.
Upon hearing the news, Agnes-sama was elated. She pledged to support Abel and Isaac through her trading company, offering them legal counsel to ensure their independence and protect them from fraud.
And so, a year passed.
I am a Medici.
The Medici family is often perceived as enigmatic and mysterious by the public. Although we are among the most distinguished noble families, we rarely make public appearances, and even our most esteemed servants decline requests from other nobility.
However, those with ulterior motives dare not approach my Agnes-sama, Alice, Carol, or the maids.
I’ve gained much wisdom from Agnes-sama and our head maid, Siesta, both of whom adore me. Alice and Carol shower me with ceaseless affection, as do our maids, including Lindsey and Elyse.
The love I receive in this mansion is truly overwhelming.
Whenever I need a change of pace, I join Abel and Isaac on hunts for formidable monsters. At times, I also visit the royal palace to enjoy a cup of tea and some casual conversation with His Majesty, the King Bern.
The Medici women are not exactly thrilled about me socializing with other women. However, there’s absolutely no chance I would ever betray their trust, even if the world were coming to an end.
Because I…
Because I love them so much.
I eagerly await the day when I can see the faces of our soon-to-be-born children.
