- That Time a Shut-in for 300 Years Continued to Make Antiques , but All of It Turned out to Be Cheat-Level Magic Tools
- Chapter 12 - Trouble Appears
“Absolutely infuriating!”
“I completely understand how you feel. And, in a way, this might have turned out for the better.”
“Hm? Better? What do you mean, Mei?”
“Yes. The magical tools you mentioned earlier are likely too advanced to sell in this town. If you had shown them there, it would have caused quite a commotion.”
“Is that so? Can’t a decent magic tool craftsman easily make something like an Infinite Storage Ring?”
“…Master, it seems your standards are somewhat out of sync with the general public. At least in this town, it would be wise not to display such items.”
So that’s how it is… Well, Mei knows more about human settlements than I do. Perhaps I should follow her advice.
However, I still don’t like that adventurer’s guild. As always, there’s an arrogance to the receptionist’s attitude.
“Hey, you guys, wait a minute.”
“What should we do now?”
“Well, I got carried away and left, but we can’t raise funds if we can’t sell the magic tools.”
“Hey, don’t ignore me!”
Sigh, I had a feeling something strange had followed us from the guild.
“Really, what a noisy bunch. What do you want?”
“Ha, we don’t want anything from you.”
“Is that so? Then let’s go, Mei.”
“Yes, Master.”
“Wait, wait, wait, wait, hey!”
I thought we’d hurry on since there’s no point talking with them.
“We’ve got business with that sexy-looking maid of yours!”
“Hehe, the sister is pretty hot. We liked her the moment we saw her.”
What are these dimwits that seem to be drawn right out of a stereotype?
But looking closer, these guys were the ones heckling from the first floor of the guild earlier.
I see, so they noticed Mei and me together and decided to try their luck because I look like a child. It’s embarrassing to admit.
As always, adventurers seem to include a lot of misguided individuals. Even after 300 years, it feels like it’s only gotten worse.
“Hmph, anyway, kids should go back and suck on their mama’s milk. Come on, let’s go together.”
…The group consists of a lanky man wearing glasses, a thick-lipped large man, and a small man with a rooster-like crest, a total of three.
“Mei is my exclusive maid.”
“Ah? Don’t mess with us. You brat are too cheeky. While we are still being nice, leave that maid here and disappear.”
“That’s right. You’ll get beaten up otherwise.”
“Hey hey, no mercy for the kid, huh, keke!”
Considering they see me as a child, aren’t they ashamed to be adventurers?
No, perhaps that was a foolish question. Not all, but many adventurers have been known for poor behavior and a lack of common sense.
“…You guys really want to play with Mei that much?”
“Heh, her name’s Mei, huh? Nice name.”
“We’d definitely love to have some fun with her.”
“Is that so? Then try taking her if you can. Mei, play along with them as you see fit.”
“Yes, Master.”
“Ha, seems like you understand after all. Now, leave the kid and let’s go to a nice place, ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! What, what, whaaa!”
The man with glasses, who tried to put his arm around Mei’s shoulder, was swiftly flipped over by her hand and put into a joint lock.
Ouch, that must hurt.
“What are you doing! We were going easy because she’s a woman and now she gets cocky!”
The large man tried to grab Mei.
“What!”
However, Mei, with her fluid movements like a flowing river, redirected the man’s arm, destabilized him, grabbed the ankles of the two men, and started swinging them around. Yes, as expected of a maidroid capable of combat.
“Hey, what’s that?”
“A maid is swinging around two big men at once!”
Oops, it looks like the bystanders have noticed us. We might be standing out a bit too much.
“Mei, stop when you find a suitable moment.”
“Yes, Master.”
With that, Mei released her grip, and the two men she threw landed on the ground, knocked out.
“Hey, what the hell is this all about!”
“Ah, there was still one left?”
The rooster-headed man shouted at Mei while trembling.
“You better stop now.”
“Don’t mess with me! Hey girl, make one more move and I’ll take this kid out!”
He pulled a knife from his pocket and pointed it at me. What a hopeless guy.
“Master.”
“Yes, it’s alright. I’ll handle this one.”
“Huh? You don’t see this knife?”
“I see it. Well, if you have a knife, then I have this.”
“Are you mocking me?!”
I pulled out a thin, extendable rod from my pocket. It could extend up to about 30cm.
“What can a kid do with such a flimsy stick!”
Well, this stick is quite sturdy. But that’s not the important part here.
“That knife is made of iron, right?”
“Of course, it’s razor sharp!”
“Ah, my condolences.”
“What?”
I waved the rod in place. The rooster-headed man looked on, puzzled, not understanding what I was doing since it clearly couldn’t reach him.
“Eh? Ah, AHHHHHHH!”
His screams echoed as an electric shock traveled from my rod to his knife, electrocuting him.
“Iron conducts electricity quite well. Didn’t you know?”
“Master, he has fainted.”
Ah, right. But it worked well. This is an electric shock rod, a stun rod. It’s like a toy I made for fun, but it’s perfect for self-defense as it can incapacitate an opponent. The shock can reach up to about 10 meters.
Electricity conducting well through metal is also an advantage. People like these often wear some metal, after all. Though there are magic spells that can nullify electricity, it’s unlikely that adventurers of their caliber would possess such capabilities.
“Well, shall we leave these fools here?”
“Yes, Master.”
Mei had held back, and they should wake up after a while. But given that many people saw them, their reputations as adventurers are probably ruined.
Now that the thuggish adventurers have been dealt with, well…
“However, now that we’ve come out, it might be impossible to sell magical tools in this town…”
Honestly, after 300 years with no apparent change, moving to another city might be a good idea. In a larger city, I might find some revolutionary magical tools that I haven’t seen yet.
“About that, Master, there is one option I have in mind.”
As we walked side by side, I shared my thoughts, and Mei informed me. I had been secluded in my home laboratory for 300 years, but Mei had occasionally gone to the city to buy necessities.
Though she usually bought in bulk and we grew our own food at the manor, so her visits weren’t frequent. In fact, Mei’s knowledge was about a decade old.
Still, she knows more than I do, and relying on her knowledge isn’t a bad idea.
“And what might that option be?”
“Do you remember the bag you made from leftover materials, Master?”
Leftover materials… Ah, yes, decades ago, I made a Magic Bag, a subspace storage bag because it seemed a waste not to use the materials. I ended up not using it because I also had the Infinite Storage Ring and left it in a corner of the laboratory.
“Ah, I remember now. Mei, you took that to use for something, didn’t you? Did you use it for cleaning?”
My memory was becoming clearer. Mei had come to my room looking for it and took it away.
“No, at that time, I mentioned that I would sell it in town since it was available…”
“Really? Was that so?”
My memory was a bit hazy. I was probably too engrossed in another project and responded without thinking.
“However, Mei. You took quite the risk. Who would buy such junk?”
“No, it actually sold. There were even additional orders, which you fulfilled…”
“Really? It sold? But it’s just a simple item…”
I didn’t vividly remember making more, but perhaps I did so subconsciously. Such an item could be made by any competent magic tool craftsman, even in their sleep.
“That Magic Bag can still be sold, as I registered it when we visited the town before.”
“Is that so? But surely, there are none left?”
“No, we only sold what was needed at the time, and there are three left in stock. They are tagged with a magical inventory tag, so they can be reverted to rings if necessary.”
Ah, that’s right… Mei has always naturally taken care of such things, which is truly helpful.
Then, Mei and I decided to visit that shop again…
