That Time a Shut-in for 300 Years Continued to Make Antiques , but All of It Turned out to Be Cheat-Level Magic Tools - Chapter 13
“It seems this store hasn’t changed at all.”
“Hmm, as expected of you, Mei.”
Relying on Mei’s memory, they arrived at a merchant’s association known to have sold Magic Bags before. They checked with a Portable MFM just in case, but there were no mistakes.
The building wasn’t as grand as the Adventurer’s Guild, but it was well-constructed out of bricks. From my perspective, neither this store nor that guild are commendable in terms of construction.
It lacked magic resistance, and it didn’t have adequate earthquake or fire resistance either. Just at a glance, I could spot a hundred places that needed fixing.
If Benz saw this, he’d be outraged, likely tearing it all down before rebuilding it.
“Shall we go in, Master?”
“Yes. But, can Magic Bags really sell here?”
“Well, considering everything we’ve seen and the guild’s reaction, I think it’s a safe bet.”
Indeed, as Mei mentioned, the primary mode of transportation here is still carriages, and even magical lighting isn’t standard; the infrastructure is severely lacking. Yet, it’s hard to believe something like a Magic Bag could hold so much value.
“Welcome~”
As I opened the door, the bell attached to it chimed. Noticing this, the young shopkeeper greeted us. Hmm, he’s quite young.
He doesn’t look younger than me, but in human terms, he seems about 15 or slightly older.
His gaze initially settled on me but quickly shifted to Mei and froze. Hey, what are you staring at her chest for?
“May I help you?”
“Uh, yes. Are you looking for something?”
His cheeks flushed. When Mei spoke, he asked back in a flustered tone.
“No, not looking for something. Actually, we would like to sell some magical tools.”
“Magical tools? Did you bring them in?”
“No, these aren’t items we’ve procured. They are magical tools created by Edson, our master here.”
“Huh?”
The boy looked at me up and down as if appraising me, then scowled. How rude.
“I’m sorry, but if you’re just messing around, please go elsewhere. Really, a child dealing with magical tools…”
“What! You are incredibly rude! You’re a child yourself, aren’t you!”
“Buh-buh! I’m 16 and quite the adult~ Unlike a little kid who can’t shop without a woman.”
What an insolent guy! True, my appearance might be like this…
“Don’t underestimate me, boy. I am far more adult than you could ever be. I am much older too!”
“…What are you talking about? Ugh, this is why kids are…”
This guy! Damn, indeed, I currently look like a child, and I’ve hidden my elf ears and dyed my hair, so I appear no different from a human. Maybe it’s understandable to be perceived as my apparent age…
“Master dislikes being treated as a child. He’s at that difficult age, so please understand.”
No! What are you saying, Mei! ‘Difficult age’ indeed… But then, Mei gave me a look that said, “Leave it to me.” Sigh, I have no choice.
“Hmm, I see. So you’re playing that kind of game. But we’re not free here to engage in make-believe and buy nonexistent magical tools.”
“No. The magical tools are real.”
“Real? You mean there actually are magical tools? Hmm, and what kind of magical tools are they?”
This guy, resting his chin on his hand, looked annoyed… just moments ago he was ogling Mei, and now he blatantly changed his attitude…
“You, aren’t you being a bit too rude?”
“I don’t need a child telling me that.”
“Enough!”
“Please wait, I’ll handle this,” Mei intervened, calming the situation, and I stepped back to observe their exchange. It’s frustrating, but dealing with disagreeable people is part of traveling.
“Understood, Mei. I leave it to you.”
“Yes. To continue, we would like to sell these items.”
“Huh? A bag? Where did you pull that out from?”
“Hmph, it was stored inside this bracelet!”
“Alright, alright, what’s this bag about then?”
This guy, looking skeptically at both the bracelet and the bag…
“This is a subspace storage bag I made casually.”
“Huh? Subspace?”
“Simply put, it’s a magical bag, a Magic Bag.”
“Ah, a Magic Bag. Hmm, it’s a bag type, not just any pouch…”
“Yes. It can hold up to 1000kg.”
“Huh? 1000 kilograms!?”
The boy’s eyes widened. He seemed quite shocked. Hmm, maybe this level of magical tool isn’t seen as valuable? I’m starting to worry.
“Ha, stop joking. Are you pulling my leg?”
“No, I’m not… As you can see, we even have the registration documents for the magical tool.”
Mei produced a document tied with a string from her chest. Where does she keep pulling these from? And parchment is rather old-fashioned. Does anyone still use such inconvenient paper nowadays?
“When was this registered?”
“10 years ago! Ha, that’s unbelievable. But now I get it. That’s what this is about, right?”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re trying to trick me because I’m young, aren’t you? That document looks well-made, but I won’t be fooled. The same goes for this bag. You picked the wrong person, I’m quite discerning, you know.”
Things seemed to be taking a bad turn. Maybe they really aren’t convinced by such a shoddy magical tool? After all, it’s just something I made casually…
“I see. By the way, when I visited previously, someone else was tending the shop. Where is that person?”
“Someone else? If you mean my father, he’s not here. I’m in charge of the shop now. Though, I doubt even my father would fall for such a cheap scam. Now that you understand, please leave before I call the guards!”
What, the guards? We only asked to sell some shoddy magical tools, and that warrants calling the guards? I thought the cityscape hadn’t changed much from 300 years ago, but now guards are called over such matters? Just earlier, adventurers were acting almost like bandits, which seems quite absurd.
“There’s no helping it. Master, let’s leave for now. We’re getting nowhere with this conversation.”
“Ha, just because she’s pretty and busty doesn’t mean men will fall for it easily.”
“We’ll take our leave for now, but please do inform us when your father returns. We’ll be staying at the Sun’s Beauty Inn for a while.”
With that, Mei and I left the shop. She insisted on leaving quietly, but what an impertinent young man he was.
“Master, I apologize.”
“No, it can’t be helped. I didn’t expect such a toy to sell anyway. It’s as expected.”
“No, it’s not that the item’s performance was poor…”
“Hmm? Then what is it?”
“Perhaps its performance was too unbelievable for him to trust.”
“Ha, Mei, you have a way with jokes. No one would think that about a Magic Bag of this level.”
“Hopefully, if the father hears about it, the conversation might change…”
I didn’t understand why the boy’s father would make a difference, but for today, we decided to return to the inn together.
