ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Two weeks had passed since Luna came to live with us. Compared to the first week, time seemed to be flying. Maybe it was because the initial rush of getting Luna settled had finally calmed down. The retrieval agents still hadn’t shown up, and according to Angel, there had been no word from them either. I couldn’t help but wonder what was actually going on.
Anyway, lately I’d been streaming games on the subchannel because Angel asked me to.
With summer just around the corner, the heat outside was intense. I’d been given a choice: go shopping at Asahi Dori Shopping District, or do a top-rank endurance stream.
As a natural-born shut-in who preferred not to go outside if possible… Of course my answer was obvious.
: Crowbar Bro’s game sense is insane.
: The heck with that move?!
: The enemies are starting to look like scarecrows.
: He’s basically a human cheat.
“Being praised for gaming feels so goood~”
This felt way better than your everyday compliments. While basking in that praise, I was deep in a chaotic final match of the endurance stream. I was good at FPS games—or rather, I was generally good at competitive games. Probably because I got to fully act on those ‘ugh, I’d hate it if someone did this to me’ moves.
I lobbed grenades one after another, laid down suppressive fire, moved swiftly, and flanked the enemy from behind. Boom—three kills from wide open targets. At least, that was what I was thinking… And apparently, those were the last enemies. A victory logo appeared on screen, signaling my promotion to top rank.
“Whoo! Guess that’s the end of the endurance stream? Thanks for watching~”
: That was insane.
: I feel enlightened.
: You actually ended with 0 deaths the whole time?
: He really did it in just over ten hours.
: GG~”
: Crowbar Bro is too godlike.
I ended the stream and let out a breath. Then I called out to the drone.
“I’m done here~”
Only to remember that everyone was out.
“…It’s kinda lonely with nobody around.”
I felt a little deflated. And then it hit me—just how much I’d grown weak to loneliness these past few months. Back during my NEET days, I actually preferred being alone. No annoying people to deal with? Perfect. But now, it wasn’t like that anymore.
“People really do change, huh…”
As I sat there hoping someone would come back soon, I heard the front door unlock with a click.
The door swung open. Luna burst in, face glistening with sweat and full of energy, a flyer in her hand as she ran up to me.
“Onii-sama! Fireworks! There’s going to be a fireworks festival!”
Apparently, they were going to launch fireworks in the Asahi Dori Shopping District.
“Come to think of it, they do that every year.”
“Yeah! Apparently, it was a big deal to actually do it in the first year of the quarantine. I heard they hadn’t even cleared out the riverside monsters back then.”
But with years of experience, they’d finally reached a point where it could be hosted reliably. I looked at the flyer Luna handed me and let out a “hoooh” of admiration.
Even in a quarantine zone, people still put together community events. It made me think maybe humanity wasn’t so bad after all. Especially when I saw how happy Luna was.
“Fireworks! It’s those things, right!? They can really do them in real life!?”
Luna pointed to a scene in the Alice anime where fireworks were being launched. I nodded.
“That’s right. That’s the one.”
“Waaah! I can’t wait! I’m so excited! I wonder what it’ll be like! This is so thrilling!”
Her bubbly excitement made everyone—myself included—smile warmly. Luna really was adorable. Just then, Botan said.
“Well then…How about we wear yukata for the occasion?”
“-! Yukata? What’s a yukata…?”
“It’s traditional summer clothing.”
Angel explained and continued.
“With your pretty black hair, Luna, I think it’d suit you really well.”
“Really!?”
Luna beamed. Looking back at the flyer, I noticed it also mentioned a summer festival being held for the first time this year. A summer festival, huh… It really was that time of year again.
“Ugh, I don’t wanna get older…”
“Taku, if you stress about that too much, it’ll just make you age faster.”
“Shut up, geez!”
I was nearly in tears. That brat had no idea how painful it was to age. Still, the image of the three of them in yukata crossed my mind. With the three of them being drop-dead gorgeous girls, they were bound to look stunning in yukata.
“Waaah! It’s so cute! Luna wants to wear this! I really really want to!”
Botan had shown Luna some yukata images on her phone, and her eyes sparkled. Then Angel spoke up.
“I want a yukata too. Mind if I come along? I’ll help pick out new clothes for both of you.”
“Really? Then let’s go together, Angel!”
“Oh! Then, then! I want clothes like Alice’s!”
“You mean that light blue apron dress? That would look great on you, Luna. Alright, I’ll help you find something like it.”
“Thank you, Angel!”
“Luna, isn’t it about time you started calling me ‘Onee-sama’ too?”
“Nope!”
What a heartwarming scene.
As I was thinking that, Botan turned to me.
“Well then, we’ll need to go shopping. Taku, can you come with us to help?”
“…Wait, me too?”
“The good shops that haven’t been looted yet are usually in buildings in the more dangerous parts of the city.”
She glanced at Angel and Luna. In other words, she might not be able to protect these two defenseless girls if she went alone. It was just a matter of numbers and coverage range.
I made a troubled face.
“Ugh… But if I go out in this heat, I might literally melt…”
“Taku…”
Botan puffed her cheeks in protest, but she was a good girl, so she didn’t push it further. That was where Angel came in.
“Luna, come here for a second.”
“Yes? What is it, Angel?”
“Just listen… whisper whisper…”
“…! Okay! Got it!”
After Angel whispered something, Luna ran up to me and hugged me around the waist.
“Onii-sama~! I want to wear a yukata! Please! Pretty please!”
“Ugh, w-well, but…”
The battle of will became much harder to fight when I saw Luna begging me to come so sincerely like that. Then Angel moved in for the kill.
“Taaakuuuu~♡ I want new clothes toooo~ Like a cute yukata~♡ Pleeease~♡”
She hugged me from the side, pressing her massive chest right up against me. Then she whispered into my ear:
“If you come with us~♡ I’ll wear whatever you want me to~♡ Oh, but you’re a virgin, so~♡ Maybe you don’t have the guts to ask?♡”
“Gah—Angel! Quit it with those kinds of jokes!”
Angel was pretty sexy for her age, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little dizzy if I let my guard down.
Just for a moment, though! After all, she’s ten years younger than me, dammit!
But with both Luna and Angel launching a full-on assault, I started to waver. Then Botan, seizing her chance, hugged me from the other side.
“U-uhm… Um… So…”
Unlike Luna’s innocence or Angel’s seduction, Botan couldn’t go either route. Her face turned bright red as she looked up at me, flustered.
“P-please… Taku…♡”
Honestly speaking…That kind of bashful look is a guy’s ultimate weak spot.
“—Aaargh, fine! Fine, I’ll go! You win!”
“““Yaaay!”””
The three of them cheered in victory, clearly thrilled their plan had worked. Meanwhile, I was caught somewhere between happy and embarrassed at being cornered by three beautiful girls even though they were just teasing me.
“…Seriously, girls are terrifying…”
I muttered, half-defeated while fanning my hot face with my hand.
