Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 44 Delivery of wild boar
Arriving at the Adventurer’s Guild as usual, the door swung open, and the bell jingled.
It was still early evening, so the quest counter appeared to be idle.
“Hello there, Miss Elf.”
“Oh, hello. Welcome. Elf-sama.”
Swiftly straightening her posture, she respectfully nodded her head towards Minya.
“Um, we defeated a large wild boar in the forest.”
“You did? But with Elf-sama here and your equipment looking quite strong, I understand. Please follow me.”
“Um?”
“Please proceed to the dismantling area in the back.”
“Ah, yes.”
We followed the young woman.
And so, we arrived at the monster dismantling area behind the guild.
To be precise, they handled not only monsters but also animals.
And although wild boars are closer to animals, they are classified as monsters.
“What? These kids actually took down a big wild boar?”
“Yes, it seems so.”
“They’ve got good equipment, but where’s the loot? A magic bag or something?”
“Yes. Where should I bring it out?”
“Over here.”
To be precise, it’s not a magic bag but an item box, but leaving the misconception intact is perfect for camouflage.
We were guided to a low, large worktable.
“Alright, I’ll bring it out.”
“Wow!”
I took out the large wild boar.
“Whoa, what is this?”
“It’s huge, boss.”
“So, these kids did it. It’s hard to believe all of a sudden.”
Even the workers were wide-eyed in astonishment.
“Can I ask you a favor to dismantle the boar?”
“Oh, okay.”
And just like that, the knife swiftly pierced the wild boar, starting the process of dismantling.
The entrails were discarded, although I personally thought it was a waste. But it seemed to be the custom in this world. It was the same when we dismantled the rabbit before.
The flesh, bones, and skin were all separated.
Then, a knife was inserted into the center of the chest.
“This is the magic stone.”
“It’s huge!”
“Wow, I haven’t seen one like this in a while.”
It was a considerably large magic stone.
“Normally, we mostly encounter smaller ones from the wolves in the Western Forest.”
“I see.”
The Elf sister kindly informed us.
“are you the leader”
“While not quite the leader, I’m at the boss level within the group.”
“I see, so that’s how it is.”
So I guess being at the boss level doesn’t necessarily mean being the boss, probably.
Fresh meat is being divided up one after another.
“Oh, right. I would like to take some of the meat home to eat. Could you set some aside for me?”
“Of course. I gotcha, young man.”
“Please, call me Ed”
“I see, I see.”
“I’m Ed from the slums.”
“You live in the slums? With that equipment? Well, there are all sorts of people. Got it, Ed, right?”
“Yes.”
Minya is incredibly interested in the meat.
Since it’s pork-like, ginger pork might be good.
Thinly sliced and grilled meat would be nice too.
Shabu-shabu could be an option as well.
Lania seems to be intrigued by the process of butchering and closely observes it.
Impressive concentration, indeed.
Somehow, before we knew it, it was over.
“Alright, the disassembly is done.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Now, let’s settle the payment. Two-tenths of the meat will go to Ed-sama, including the magic stones. The rest will be picked up by the guild. Is that acceptable?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, after deducting the disassembly fee, it will be fifteen gold coins. Is that alright as well?”
“That’s fine.”
“Then, please take the meat with you, and we’ll exchange the gold coins at the reception counter.”
“Okay.”
With that, I received the meat and returned to the guild floor to collect the gold coins.
It turned out to be quite a substantial income.
Apart from the occasional jackpot like finding rare items, this is the first time I’ve made such a large amount of money through adventuring.
“Now, as usual, your share, five gold coins for Lania.”
“Oh, thank you, Ed-kun.”
“Well, of course. Here you go. I’ve never seen that much fire before.”
“Hehe, thank you.”
I discreetly hand over the gold coins to Lania.
“Hehehe, ahahaha!”
As Lania leaves the guild, she bursts into laughter.
“What’s wrong, Lania? Did something break?”
“No, no, it’s the opposite. I was really, really scared. But everyone cooperated and fought together, and we were able to defeat a strong enemy. Then, when I saw the guild members looking at me with disbelief, I realized how unbelievably strong I am too.”
“I-Is that so?”
“And Ed-kun, you’re strong too. I’m so happy.”
Lania clings tightly to me.
“Nya~”
Seeing that, Minya, still wearing an expression of confusion, also clings to me.
The warmth intensifies as the two of them come closer.
Spring is no longer cold, but this warmth seeps into my bones.
And into my heart as well.
With me at the center, Lania on my left and Minya on my right, we walk home while holding hands.
Both of them seem to be in a very cheerful mood.
La-la-la, lalala, leralala~♪
The two of them are humming a song I don’t know.
It’s a bit shocking to realize there are things I don’t know.
Is it some secret only girls share?
For tonight’s dinner, let’s make ginger pork with boar meat.
There are some wild ginger plants around here.
In the slums of Lanierda…
At first, it was a life of poverty where we could only eat beans.
But we managed to gradually improve our situation by foraging wild plants, venturing into the forest, selling grape and strawberry jam to earn money, buying swords and staffs, purchasing armor, and defeating goblins and rabbits.
Finally, we reached the point where we could take down a large boar.
Even so, beans still remain a staple in our diet.
Our meals mainly consist of dishes made with wild plants, wild vegetables, and dried meat.
Slowly but surely, we’re starting to have access to a variety of food.
Just the other day, we managed to obtain some eggs.
We currently have two eggs in stock, and I’m looking forward to trying my hand at making omelets.
Our adventures and the improvement of our food choices have only just begun.
The battle against a life of poverty is far from over. We will continue to face its challenges.
