Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 42 Fried Chicken Set Meal
Now, after a short wait, the Fried Chicken Set Meals were brought by the maid.
By the way, it may seem obvious, but in this world, fried chicken is quite common. It’s not like I’m introducing something groundbreaking for the first time in this world.
“Meow!”
“Wow!”
Both Mīnya and Lania had sparkling eyes as they watched the dishes being carried over. The fried chicken was emitting steam, and the delicious aroma was already filling the air.
“Several other adventurers nearby were also lured by the scent and couldn’t take their eyes off it.”
“Here are your Fried Chicken Set Meals, please enjoy.”
“Yes!”
“Mīnya let out an enthusiastic voice that made my ears twitch. Even her elf ears were twitching with excitement.”
The maid, wearing a gentle smile, placed two plates in front of Mīnya and then Lania.
“Mmm…”
“What a wonderful aroma.”
Lania also sniffed the air, her face filled with irresistible longing.
The maid brought over my portion of the Fried Chicken Set Meal and placed it in front of me.
“That will be fifteen copper coins, please.”
“Ah, yes.”
I paid the money.
For reference, my earnings from a previous day were three copper coins, and on a good day, one silver coin.
Fifteen copper coins would be around 1,500 yen.
Considering it as a meal priced at 500 yen, it was reasonably affordable.
Since there are many adventurers here, there is a certain level of trust, and it operates on an exchange system.
In most other establishments, customers are not trusted and are required to pay in advance.
I’ve heard that high-end establishments with exclusive memberships operate on a pay-afterwards system.
Although I rarely have dealings with expensive establishments, I occasionally receive odd jobs from them, so there is some connection.
“Thanks to Raffalier-sama, let’s dig in!”
“Let’s dig in!”
After Lania’s greeting to her deity, both Mīnya and I followed suit.
We began eating together.
“Mmm, delicious!”
“So tasty!”
“Ah, it’s juicy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.”
On the plate were six pieces of medium-sized bread and fried chicken. In one corner of the plate, there were roasted sweet sliced potatoes. Each piece of fried chicken was quite substantial, enough to not be finished in just one bite.
“So good, so good!”
While watching the two of them devour their food, I also took a big bite into the piping hot fried chicken. The flavors oozed out from the inside, making it incredibly delicious.
Although the seasoning was just salt, it seemed like the meat had been marinated in some kind of broth or seasoning. I see, it’s good to keep that in mind.
As far as I can remember, this is my first time dining out. Since moving to the slums, I have never eaten at such a place before. In the past, my mother, Tomaria, used to cook decently delicious meals, so I had no complaints. But after she was gone, we relied solely on beans…
Occasionally, I tear off a piece of bread and put it in my mouth.
Eating the richly flavored fried chicken and the lightly seasoned bread alternately is incredibly delicious.
The bread has a subtle sweetness to it, creating a perfect balance of saltiness and sweetness.
Eating out is truly wonderful.
However, being raised in the slums, I have no idea which restaurants are good to go to.
“Mmm…”
“I’m full.”
“Ah, I ate quite a lot.”
Mīnya’s belly is now swollen. She looks adorable.
It seems like her round belly is well received by some people.
I gently pat her belly, going “ponko-ponko.”
Eat plenty and grow big.
Well, I also love them when they’re small and cute.
We leave the Adventurers’ Guild.
It’s time for a break.
There’s a fountain nearby, so let’s take a short rest here.
“Let’s take a break on the bench in front of the fountain.”
“Sounds good.”
“Yeah.”
It’s impressive that there are benches here, being in the city and all.
In the slums outside, like Lanierda, it’s not the case.
If you were to leave a bench outside your house, it would probably be stolen and sold.
Perhaps those are pigeons.
Since they’re birds from another world, I’m not entirely sure, but there are a few pigeon-like birds drinking water near the fountain.
Birds not only eat but also drink water and take baths, don’t they?
“I wonder if pigeons are delicious.”
“Yeah, they might be decently tasty.”
“Really? gulp”
She actually said “gulp.” After eating so much fried chicken, she still wants to try pigeon fried chicken?
While I’m curious about the comparison, I wonder how pigeons taste.
There are a few children running around near the fountain, playing and having fun.
One human girl and two sisters who appear to be cat beastkin.
They’re probably around the same age as us.
All the children are quite adorable.
The clothing suggests they’re probably a local town child, judging by the colored dress. They appear to be from a middle-class background.
For a brief moment, they seemed interested in our adventurer-style outfits, but quickly lost interest and started playing tag with others over there. They touch and tag each other, taking turns as the “it” person.
There are some kids with remarkable speed, making it one-sided at times, but the three of them seem evenly matched, creating a nice dynamic.
“It feels peaceful like this, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Indeed.”
While we may experience peace in the town, once we venture into the forest, it instantly becomes a battlefield. We have to fight goblins and monsters.
Currently, it serves as our means to increase our income, so we can’t avoid fighting.
The income from magic stones is moderate, but it’s better than nothing. Just relying on goblin magic stones every day should be enough to sustain our lives.
However, there are occasions when creatures other than goblins appear in the forest. There’s even a one-horned rabbit near the lookout mountain.
Moreover, although rare, there are even stronger monsters out there.
That’s why I bought armor.
I also have potions.
I want to take as many precautions as possible.
