Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 36 Slime
Friday morning in the Exis Forest.
After the goblin battle, I’m still wandering around the area. I come across some taro plants and start harvesting them.
“Oh, this is a grapevine!”
【Wild Grape: Plant, Edible】
It’s a bit past its peak, but it’s still edible. The purple fruits look delicious.
I decide to give it a taste.
“Mmm, it’s sweet.”
“Mmm, it’s incredibly sweet and delicious.”
“Meoww, it’s delicious!”
This is more than enough.
“Alright, let’s gather everything except the ones that are spoiled.”
“Got it!”
We work hard to harvest the grapes. We help each other, lifting little Mīnya to reach the higher ones.
One by one, we toss them into the item box. It seems that leveling up has increased the capacity of the item box, from two bags full to four bags full.
This is our second grape harvest, so we collect them in bunches. It’s going to be a productive jam-making session once again.
After finishing the grape harvest and circling around to see if there’s anything else worth noting, we encounter three goblins once again.
“It’s goblins.”
“Let’s take them down.”
“We’re ready!”
Just like before, we swiftly defeat them and it’s over.
Or so we thought.
“Gobgob!”
“Damn it!”
“Step back, I’ll handle this. Flames, ignite fiercely—Fire!”
I made a mistake, but Lānia comes to my aid and swiftly defeats the goblin with a single blow.
With that, we have taken down all three of them.
“I messed up. Sorry.”
“No worries. I’ll heal you now. Healing light—Heal.”
Mīnya’s warm green light envelops me, easing the pain in my left shoulder from the direct hit.
“Whoa, that feels amazing. Thanks for the heal.”
“You’re welcome. I’m here to help, after all.”
I gently stroke Mīnya’s head, causing a mischievous grin to form on their face. I give them plenty of thanks.
After retrieving the magic stone from the goblin, we leave the area.
As we continue our journey, our attention turns to a creature we were curious about.
“Speaking of which, slimes are around here, right?”
“Yes.”
In front of us, there’s a slime about 30 centimeters tall, leisurely walking. During the day, slimes usually hide beneath leaves or other coverings. Since we’re in the forest, it’s slightly dim, allowing some slimes to move on the ground.
When it rains, they can be active during the day, and some even wander around the slum district. If they manage to survive until the next day, they become perfect playmates for the children. Once the worn-out slime is reduced to a state of disrepair, it gets flushed down the toilet and becomes part of the seed slime population.
That’s why they’re often overlooked and ignored.
“Are you both aware that our strength grows when we defeat enemies?”
“Yes, sort of.”
“I’m aware.”
Both of them nodded in agreement.
“That’s right. Even slimes like the ones scattered around here are technically magical creatures.”
“That’s true.”
“Yes, indeed.”
They further acknowledged.
“If we defeat a lot of slimes and keep walking, we might become even stronger.”
“I see, that makes sense.”
“Wow!”
Alright, let’s give it a try.
I attack the slime in front of me with my sword and seize its magic stone.
【Slime’s Magic Crystal | Magic Stone | Common】
It’s considered common, but its size is slightly smaller, around 1 centimeter. Goblins are 3 centimeters, while one-horned rabbit is 2 centimeters.
Although it may have a low price, it still adds to our income. Magic stones can be used as the core of magical tools or even ground into magic powder for other purposes.
As we move around, we search for slimes hiding among leaves and trees, defeat them, and continue our journey.
“Slimes spotted, hi-yah!”
“Here’s another slime over here. Easy peasy.”
Even without resorting to magic, attacking them with a staff is more than sufficient.
If you strain your eyes and look closely, slimes can be found in abundance.
Perhaps their numbers have increased due to recent rainfall.
I must have defeated around 15 of them by now.
“Hmm.”
I felt a peculiar sensation surging through my entire body.
It seems like I’ve gained more strength compared to before.
“Something feels strange, doesn’t it?”
“I wonder what it could be.”
It seems both of them have noticed it too.
It appears that our party’s experience points are being evenly distributed, as we have consistently leveled up at the same time.
I have a vague sense that the capacity of my item box has increased from about four bags’ worth to about six.
It’s just a feeling, but even feelings shouldn’t be disregarded.
In a typical game, the amount of experience points required for leveling up increases with each level, often following a pattern of doubling like 2, 4, 8, 16.
Considering the number and strength of the enemies we’ve faced so far, it feels somewhat similar.
Based on that, it’s likely we’ll need around 30 slimes equivalent to level up next.
It’s a bit high, so let’s give up and head back.
We retraced our steps and made our way south along the route we had been exploring.
Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any goblins on the way back and managed to return safely.
After having lunch, we proceeded to make grape jam again in the afternoon.
Our magical cooking stove is truly indispensable.
Having this stove is a real blessing. If we had to rely on firewood, we wouldn’t be able to keep making jam like this.
“We’ve made jam.”
“Ripe Grape Jam… so mouthwatering.”
Both of them are practically drooling.
“You can go ahead and taste it.”
“Thank you, we’ll dig in.”
Forgetting even to give thanks to the gods, they spread the jam on the bread and devour it.
“So delicious!”
Both of them are thoroughly satisfied.
Me, Melun, and Gid can’t help but smile wryly. Of course, we also had a taste.
It’s the sweetest jam we’ve ever had. It was delightful.
There are ten jars of Ripe Grape Jam ready for sale right in front of us.
Of course, we also have separate jars for personal use, storage, for Dridon-san, and Lania’s family.
In the evening, we pay a visit to Dridon’s general store.
“Dridon-san, I’ve got a new batch of grape jam for you. Ten jars, made from perfectly ripe grapes that are even sweeter than before.”
“Ohhh.”
I hand him a jar for tasting.
He calls his wife over and takes out some bread for sampling. Dridon-san starts eating.
“It’s incredibly sweet. Delicious!”
“It’s delicious indeed. We can sell this at a higher price.”
Since the jam received positive feedback, it will be available for sale again this time.
“One jar for 7,000 Daryls. Is it alright if I take 6,000 Daryls in profit?”
“Is that okay? It seems like a small profit for you.”
“It’s fine. I can manage with this much.”
With that, a guaranteed income of six gold coins was assured.
They say it’s counting chickens before they hatch, but this time it’s a sure thing.
