Chapter 60: “Senju’s Past?” ②

“Well, it’s not uncommon for worthless people to have affairs, whether with women or even men.”

“Wow, so that’s common?”

“It happens. But, having a child as a result—that’s not as common. It’s not unheard of, though. I’m an example, Reo from the Kanna family is another. Then there’s the eldest daughter of the Minazuki family, but that was a child with a god, so that’s a bit different. I guess it’s fine since it was before marriage? I don’t really get it.”

“I don’t get it either!”

It was a world that was hard for a middle schooler, who hadn’t even figured out normal relationships, to comprehend.

“Speaking of, in that other world, there were nobles who would compete to see how many vulnerable women they could assault and impregnate. It was disgusting.”

“…That’s a really depressing story, brother. I didn’t need to hear that.”

“Don’t worry, I made sure to cut off their limbs first, and then I took their heads off, so they won’t be a problem anymore.”

“Heroes from another world are terrifying!”

Just remembering it made Natsuki feel sick.

Those nobles imposed heavy taxes, and when people couldn’t pay, they’d turn even children or married women into their playthings, sometimes not caring about gender.

Even Natsuki, who generally didn’t care much about the people of that world, found it revolting enough to kill them. But instead of thanks, the villagers only cursed him.

They complained that the noble he killed was the least terrible, and they feared what would happen if an even worse one took over.

Natsuki thought, Then why didn’t you resist or at least show some opposition? But he realized it was pointless to say anything, so he kept his mouth shut.

“I’m good. Let’s get back to Senju-san’s story.”

“Alright, alright. So yeah, I’m the child of my dad’s mistress. For some reason, he decided to officially acknowledge me and take me in. Maybe he felt bad, or maybe it was just on a whim—I’m not really sure. My mom didn’t want to raise me either, so I guess he stepped in.”

“…But life wasn’t exactly great, was it?”

“Not really. The head of the Kanna family was noble enough to raise an illegitimate child like her own. Of course, that ended badly when Reo turned on her. In my case, well, my stepmother, brother, and sister bullied me. At first, my dad defended me, so they didn’t mess with me openly, but… turns out I was super talented!”

“Whoa, you suddenly started bragging!”

Since the story was heavy, Natsuki couldn’t help but joke around to keep the mood light and his own spirits up.

“The Nanamori family is known for their ‘magic eyes.’ In the past, they were called ‘cursed eyes,’ but basically, we have abilities related to vision. So, it turns out, as the illegitimate child, I had the same time-stopping magic eye as the first head of the Nanamori family. No one else had developed that power since the first, so suddenly, things got serious. I went from being just a mistress’s child to being officially recognized as a member of the Nanamori family.”

“Job change, huh?”

“Yep! And that’s where the bullying really kicked in. But the thing is, I wasn’t the type to just sit back and take it. I filled my brother’s computer with viruses by visiting adult sites, and I exposed my sister’s secret social media account, making sure she lost her place at school!”

“Yikes.”

Natsuki was a bit taken aback at how extreme Senju had been, but he figured his actions were likely in response to something equally terrible.

“Anyway, that was just standard fare for a prestigious family. But things got worse when my awful brother and sister started worrying that I might actually become the next family head. I was a pitcher on a baseball team at the time, but I guess they thought I was aiming for more.”

“That sounds possible!”

“Both of them wanted to become the family head because they thought they were so talented. So, they stepped up their harassment, even bullying the servants who were kind to me. I was furious by then.”

“Did you do something?”

“You bet I did!”

Senju grinned slyly.

“First, I used my ‘stop’ ability on my awful dad and brother right when they dropped their pants in the bathroom!”

“That’s insane!!!”

“I went all out, no holding back, just full force ‘stop!’ Guess what happened?”

“No way… are they still like that?”

“Correct! My dear brother and father are still frozen, pants down, right there in the bathroom!”

“Whoa, that’s nuts! Wait, seriously? Let’s go check it out! We could turn it into a tourist attraction!”

Natsuki had done a lot of things to people from other worlds, but he had never pulled off anything as hilariously outrageous as what Senju had done. He couldn’t help but feel a little envious.

“We have a big house, so there are multiple bathrooms, but two of them are still in use!”

“Gyahahahahaha!”

“I wanted to do the same thing to my awful sister, but she got really suspicious. So, instead, I caught her cheating on her fiancé and used ‘stop’ right at that moment! I felt a little bad for the guy she was with, so I let them off after a week.”

“Senju-san, you’re so kind!”

“Of course! And thanks to that, her engagement got called off, and she had to pay a ton in compensation. After that, I was in my mid-teens, so I said goodbye to the family.”

“That’s amazing. That kind of zama is just incredible!”

“Well, the Nanamori family wasn’t too happy about it, so they spread the story that I lost control of my powers and caused a bunch of damage. Even now, they regularly send messengers begging me to do something about my dad and brother. So, I told them: ‘Let my dear stepmother, who insulted me all those years, come and ask me herself.’ Of course, she’ll never come. She’s too scared of being ‘stopped,’ after all.”

Senju laughed heartily, talking about his past like it was a heroic tale rather than something that weighed him down. 

Natsuki found himself a little envious. 

He couldn’t talk about everything he went through in the other world in such a lighthearted way. 

He wondered if, maybe someday, time would help him do the same.

“Hey, hey, hey! Natsuki! Natsuki! Natsuki!”

“Natsuki-kun! Look! You’ve gotta see this!”

Hearing Koume and Ginko call his name, Natsuki and Senju sat up, only to see that the two had somehow captured a kappa by the riverbank.

“Kappa, huh!? A real kappaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

“There’s a kappa in this river? And why did you even catch it!?”

Natsuki dashed over in excitement while Senju couldn’t help but question the situation.

Little did they know, this encounter with the kappa would spark a whole new round of chaos.

That concludes Senju-san’s backstory. 

The Nanamori family might make an appearance again in the future.
