Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V3 Chapter 59
Chapter 59: “Senju’s Past?” ①
“Ahh! That was beyond fun—it was intense! I’m definitely not going on any more casual trips just for the sake of comeuppance!”
Back in Mukaijima City, Natsuki stretched his arms, loosening up his tired body.
Before he knew it, it was already past noon, and after everyone had some cold Chinese noodles, their stomachs were full.
Natsuki no longer felt like going to school, so he suggested going somewhere to hang out instead. However, Yusuke got a message from his family asking, “Where are you?” so he hurried home.
After all the trouble he had caused his family, Yusuke was quick to leave, saying, “I’ll definitely make it up to you!” compared to when Natsuki first met him, Yusuke seemed much more energetic.
Natsuki felt relieved knowing that a victim from the other world was starting to regain a sense of normalcy. Now, all that was left was for his emotional wounds to heal. He hoped Lilith’s introduction would come soon.
By the way, Seishiro didn’t return with them.
His father, who had disowned him, had not yet been kicked out by his mother, and with both his former fiancée and brother gone, it felt wrong to leave his mother alone. So, Seishiro decided to stay the night.
As the new head of the Kanna family, Taeko bowed deeply, saying, “I’ll make sure to repay you for this,” but Natsuki and the others just smiled and waved. “Don’t worry about it. If that cheater tries anything again, just call us. We’ll come to watch the comeuppance!”
They never ended up meeting Reo and Akemi’s son, but Natsuki didn’t feel like facing the awkwardness of meeting the child anyway. That was something Seishiro could handle.
“Still, what a bunch of jokers. Why do prestigious families always seem to churn out the same types of people?”
Having moved to the riverside, the group either lay down or chased butterflies. Natsuki and Senju lay on their backs, staring blankly at the sky.
“The Minazuki family seemed pretty normal, though?”
“No way. A family that used to offer human sacrifices to a fallen god can’t be considered normal.”
“…You’ve got a point.”
“The old lady Unkai and the old man Seiun are pretty well-known heavyweights within the Institute. Because of those two, even when the Minazuki family’s Mizuchi fell, their standing in the Institute remained secure.”
“Heh.”
Setting aside Seiun, it was hard to imagine Unkai as the cheerful old lady now serving Amaterasu-Omikami. Although he understood she had worked hard for the Minazuki family, it was difficult to picture her in that role.
“Well, if you ask whether it’s better or worse, it’s definitely better. But still, you noticed Kaya Minazuki’s husband isn’t around, right?”
“Now that you mention it, yeah, he wasn’t there.”
“That guy was a real piece of work. Even though it was a political marriage, for some reason, he got it into his head that Kaya Minazuki had fallen in love with him and started saying he’d take charge as the head of the Minazuki family.”
“Wow, that’s painfully delusional.”
“You probably know this, but Kaya Minazuki had a good relationship with Mizuchi. When her husband found out, he was so shocked that he went out and had affairs. Of course, everything got found out, and he lost his position… That’s not something a live-in son-in-law should be doing. He was disowned by his own family and just disappeared somewhere.”
“Miyako-san’s father sounds awful!”
Thinking back, if the Minazuki family’s husband had been present during his visit, things would probably have gotten complicated. Natsuki was genuinely glad he wasn’t there.
“Senju-san, you sure know a lot.”
“Well, yeah. You heard what Akemi Kanna said—I’m from an old family, the Nanamori clan. The families are connected, and I’ve been with the Institute for a long time, so I end up hearing all kinds of things I don’t even want to know because of factional disputes. But, to be honest, I’m a failure myself and have no real ties to the Nanamori family anymore.”
“…Now that you mention it, that cheating woman did say something like that. I’ve been wondering whether I should ask or not.”
When he thought about it, Natsuki realized he didn’t know much about Senju Nanamori’s background.
They had met under terrible circumstances, but talking to him now, he came across as a friendly, helpful guy, so Natsuki hadn’t really thought much of it. However, hearing Akemi insult him back at the Kanna family did make him curious.
“Well, it’s not something I need to hide. I’m the illegitimate child of the Nanamori family head, born from a mistress.”
“Whoa! Bombshell alert! First the Kanna family, and now this? That’s heavy stuff for a middle schooler! As heavy as a second bowl of ramen!”
“Middle schoolers can handle that much, no problem.”
Senju gave a bright, carefree smile, showing no sign of bitterness at all.
